We play as the Vikings on Monarch difficulty against 7 random AI's.

The map size is standard.

The rest was set on random.

We switch player every 20 turns.

I played my first 20 turns.

I think we are on an island. But we got lucky with luxuries, we got 4 on the island.

We got bronze working, 25 gold, a warrior, a settler and some region maps from huts.

I was moving the settler north to better terrain and closer to our capital.

I have built an extra worker and Trondheim is now building a granary. One of the workers is cutting the woods on the game to accellerate the production of the granary. I suggest we irrigate the game after that. Then Trondheim will be able to grow every 3 turns, so we can then build a settler every 6 turns.

We discovered ceremonial burial by ourselves and are now researching mysticism. Not a very good choice I think afterwards, maybe the alphabet would have been better, so we could research mapmakng as soon as possible.

Good luck with your turns Eddy.

It appears that we're not on an island at all! :D
The land to the north doesn't look too inviting though, but at least we'll get some contact with other civs.
bsg_panama_city.jpg

The settler in the south has built a city now, and has sent a warrior out to do some "farming."
The jungle around Copenhagen will be a problem for us, but I couldn't really avoid picking that site, it will stop trespassers sneaking onto "our" territory for a while. Our new conscript warrior has spotted another civ nearby and will meet them soon, they're either the Arabs or the Chinese. (At least they're not the Germans. ;) )
bsg_neighbours.jpg

We got mysticism on my last turn, Tiamat can decide what to research next when we've contacted our neighbours and seen what they have to trade.

Tiamat's turn, 2150bc

Ok, I've got it. Will play my turns this evening.

Okay, the border that Eddie saw belonged to the Chinese. They had Masonry, The Wheel, & Iron Working to our Pottery & Ceremonial Burial. Only possible trade was Pottery for 25G, so I took it.

We got Alphabet from a Goody Hut, but the Chinese wouldn't trade more than 5 gold for it, so I declined.

Founded Reykjavik near the incense south of Trondheim.

Scouts in the North met the Germans. Traded Alphabet to them for Masonry, The Wheel & 5G. The only horses I see so far are right next to the Chinese borders.

Founded Oslo west of Trondheim on the coast.

We have 3 iron deposits in our territory.

Scouting to the east puts us in contact with the Celts. They are in contact with Spanish, English & Russians, but don't know the Germans or Chinese yet. They also have Writing to our Masonry & Mysticism but won't take both techs, both contacts and all our gold for it.

The Celts traded contact with us to the Russians & English. Russia has Writing & Horseback Riding, and the English have Writing to our Mysticism.

Okay, Djurre, there are some trades to be completed at the beginning of your turn, the Russians & English are in contact with the Spanish & French, but we are still the only ones in contact with the Chinese & Germans. I left it up to you to decide what trades should be made.

The settler was heading 1 tile south to found a city there.

Here is the game: Binge 1600BC

Great, not on an island afterall. I'll play my turns tomorrow, I am a bit busy at the moment. Sorry for the delay.

I founded 2 more cities in the south. Our scout was killed by a barbarian warrior near the celtic border just after he discover the hut there was empty. But I have built another scout. We discovered Mapmaking, but I didn't trade all world maps yet. I did trade most contacts for techs and gold. The Celts have code of laws that we don't have.We can trade it against our mathematics, which we'll have discovered in a few turns.

Not much more to report about my turns.

I'll sent you the game via email, its to big to post it in the thread.

Good luck Eddy.

Here's Djurre's sav: 1100 bc.sav

We got mathematics and traded it for philosophy, code of laws, lit and about 200 gold and everyone's territory maps. We've started building the Great Library but I don't know how far ahead the other civs are towards building it.
Our last scout was killed south of the Celts, sadly before he could expand our maps much. :(

We founded three more cities, and there is a settler/warrior pair heading for the bonus grassland next to the wheat SE of Bergen. And a reminder for Tiamat - when the worker near Burka has finished, rush him up to Reykjavic to irrigate the floodplains. (I forgot. :mischief: ) Stavenger isn't ideally spaced, but we'll get some good production from it reasonably quickly I think.

The warrior was moving to Reykjavic so I could move the vet spear to Copenhagen - Bismarck is annoyed with us just now, plus we might need a war later to secure a supply of horses. I've connected an iron resource, started building a few swords, and added more barracks.

No real problems yet.
Tiamat's turn: 630 bc.sav

Okay, I got 2 more cities founded, I was able to trade for Republic on my last turn, so Djurre should decide when he wants to revolt. We are behind the Germans only because of their free tech. We are even or ahead of everybody else. The Chinese got the Colossus, the French the Pyramids, the Celts the Oracle, the Spanish the Library & Germany the Great Wall. I have switched Oslo to the Lighthouse but we will research Feudalism before it is finished, so we could swap to Sun Tzu's.

Right near the middle of my turns, we became the second civ into the next era and had a barb uprising in the south near Odense.

Binge_Barb_Uprising.jpg

I had sent a warrior down to disperse the hut but he didn't arrive in time and was killed. I have a swordsman down there now ready to eliminate them.

Also during my trading we finally got a World Map and can see that everybody else has at least one source of horses.

The Chinese have already built galleys and were able to found a city in our southern territory. We will want to get that surronded and either take it in a war or hope to get it culturally.

Here is the state of the empire:

Edit: Fixed broken link.

Thanks for the tip Speaker for the dead.

I switched our government to Republic. After that we discovered feudalism and I traded that for monotheism and started researching on engineering.

I founded 2 more cities. It's too bad that the Russians also founded a city on our almost island.

I switched the great light house to the sun szu academy. And started a courthouse in the middle of our almost island. My idea was that after the courthouse was finished we could start the forbidden palace there.

Good luck.

2 more cities founded (and the Russians have put a tundra city down south  ) and we're now just a few turns short of invention.

I didn't trade engineering, and I haven't traded for horses with the Chinese yet. Our military is a bit weak but I don't think we're ready to start building up an invasion force at this time.

Would it be better to but the FP in, say, Stockholm or wait and place it further north when we've knocked out the Chinese?

Tiamat's turn:

Yes, we can wait with the FP. But I normally build it as soon as possible, to reduce corruption quick. The disadvantage of my strategy is that the FP is built near the palace and that is not an optimal position of course.

OK, on my turns we completed Sun Tzu's. We are in a race for Leo's but we probably won't win. On my last turn we dicovered Gunpowder and have a monopoly on it, however all the AI's have Monarchy, Theology & Chivalry already. I will let Djurre decide if he wants to trade it around. I have set the research to Theology, but we haven't invested anything in yet so feel free to change it Djurre.

I have a couple of Beserks fortified in Copenhagen, with a few more cities building more. There is also 1 Berserk foritifed in one of the towns near the Chinese city on our southern border.

I would suggest getting a force together to attack China, but if we want to wait for 20 turns, maybe trade a lux for their extra horses.

I will have to e-mail the save to Djurre, as the Upload File link is not working. If it comes back up soon I will post the save and a picture of the empire to date.

Mail me a sav too please Tiamat. :)

Here is the save and a picture of the empire as of 570AD for anyone interested.

Binge SG 570AD

First of all sorry for the long delay again.

I traded gunpowder to some other civs for in total chivalry, theology, education and about 100 gold. And started researching banking. After banking was finished I traded it for astronomy + 30 gpt to the french. Then I started on researching chemistry. And now we are a few turns away from physics.

I also decided that building the forbidden palace now would help us fight corruption a lot. So I have built it in a town near the center of our almost Island. So when we start conquering we have to replace the palace with a leader to a better spot.

I placed our berserkers in our the 2 northern towns, but I didn't built many yet.

We lost the race for the leonardo's workshop by 3 turns, and there were no other wonders to replace it by so we lost 402 shields on that.

Well good luck and I'll try to finish my turns sooner next time.

Don't worry about delays Djurre - think of them as a kindness to the AI players, letting them live a little bit longer. :D

Well, we're in another wonder race and this time we've got 3 of them building. (Probably a bit ambitious of me to tell the truth) Everyone is rushing for the Sistene chapel but I think we'll get that, I had started a pre-build and it's due in 14 turns. Adam Smiths and Newton's due 3 turns later. Perhaps it's worth a gamble, delay the SC so all wonders build the same turn?

From some trading, we got a good number of techs, some luxuries and horses and a big pile of gold, and we are the first civ to enter the industrial age :goodjob:

Tiamat's turn:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/bsg_970ad.sav

Well, we are at war, in our GA, and we completed all 3 wonders that Eddie had us trying for.

Most of my turns were focused on infra and military build-up. I was able to trade around and get Mil. Trad. and a few luxuries. Unfortunately, the only way to continue to get horses, was to trade Industrialization for them, so I traded it to every one who is almost as advanced. The only AI ahead of us is France, and they only have Nationalism over us.

I had tried slowing down J.S. to finish with the other 2, but unless I let the city starve, it was still going to finish before. As it turnde out I didn't need to anyway as the other 2 - Smith's & Newton's - completed 2 turns later beating everyone else. France completed Magellan's 2 turns after that and I didn't trade Industrialization until the cascading had been completed. so we are the only one building U.S. with a head start in our GA.

I declared war on the Chinese on my second last turn, as they were starting to build up around our border with them, and I wanted the initial attack. The Chinese should also be in their GA, as on their first counter-attack, they did win a battle with one of their Riders, but they are mostly attacking with Cavalry & Longbowmen.

On the first turn of the war, I took the city in the south, and one city in the North.

bsg_China_War.jpg

The next turn I had to let the troops heal, so I couldn't push the attack as far as I would have liked.

Djurre, you could probably take a few more cities and then get peace or you could push on, the choice is yours. Since we are in our GA, you might want to change some of the build orders to military to help in this war.

Here is the status of the world:

Djurre,

Are you still going to be playing in the SG? Just wondering as it's been 2 weeks since I posted my turn.
