Blue Marble Terrain

Hey. I just installed Blue Marble after installing the game and the latest patch: 1.62. However I seem to be having a very annoying problem.

For some reason, no matter the map I choose, the game I choose, time speed, the game always starts with only 10 turns to go before it ends. It's really annoying, I never had that problem before I used Blue Marble.

I was wondering, if we can't fix the problem, how do you uninstall Blue Marble?

I have seen people mentioning this problem in other threads for other mods (namely Sevo's Sevomod 3). This seems to be a mod compatibility issue. Unfortunately I don't recall the solutions, so I can only suggest searching in other threads, maybe there is a solution somewhere there.

Uninstalling is done through the same way as you installed it - run the installation program and shoose "Uninstall".

Hi Marius, Blue Marble isn't the cause of your problems, because it only changes terrain textures, but no gameplay elements at all. However, if you want to uninstall it, just click on the "Uninstall" button in the installer interface. The problem "10 turns left" (search the forums for this phrase) usually means that people are using a NoCD patch. If this is so in your case, remove it and your game should work fine.

The inevitable question! Thunderfall, will you be preparing a Blue Marble version for Warlords?

Thanks!! I really miss those beautiful tiles!

For those interested, I reloaded Blur Marble after Warlords and all is pretty again :)

Hmmm.... so did I, but all is not beautiful... it seems the BM installer writes files to a specific, Civ4-centric directory, not the Warlords subdirectory under the root Civ4 directory...

How very odd, when I checked the affected files under the BM installer it wrote to the corrct sub-directory and works perfectly. I did download a new BM, but it didnt mention that it was any different.

Thanks - I'll try that tomorrow. Did you download the file from the top of this thread?

thanks!

Yes I did. I hope it works out for you, I can't think why it wouldnt since mine worked the first time.

Good Luck!

The latest version of BlueMarble already is prepared for Warlords, you only have to run the BlueMarble installer again after installing the addon. The reason for this is that Warlords installs its own CustomAssets directory, so BlueMarble has to fill this directory with the BlueMarble files too.

EDIT: the optional graphic/font-scaling utility CivScale has been updated to version 2.01, making font-scaling available for "Warlords" too:

Just got Warlords, and after getting back the sweet Blue Marble Terrain, I found that pulling up the grid, either through the button or the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl-T), I get a CTD. Uninstalling Blue Marble got rid of the problem. Any others with this issue? I like the grid tool, but don't want to miss the improved graphics....

Activating the grid essentially means just activating an alternative terrain texture set with grid lines drawn on them, so the grid itself can't be the reason for your crash. I suppose the texture set exchange is problematic in your case. Perhaps the texture memory of your graphics card is close to the limit and cannot handle the new Warlords graphics on top of the Vanilla graphics? I would suggest switching to the LowRes-version of BlueMarble that consumes less texture memory. If this does not help I would recommend reducing the Civ4 graphics quality via the Civ4 options, like turning of AntiAliasing and reducing the graphics and rendering level. Finally activating "Low resolution textures" could help. Success?

I have almost all of Civ 4's bells & whistles turned on, so you may well be right about the memory thing.

I tried the lower-res package, and that worked fine. So I figured that I'd try the higher-res package again just to compare and see if I wanted to install the low-res version or just reduce the in-game levels. Wouldn't you know, when I loaded the higher-res package again and Ctrl-T'd, there was no crash? Figures. Still, I get my cake and get to eat it too! I really enjoy the Blue Marble mod; thanks!

After a fresh Civ4 restart your graphics memory is probably "cleaned up". But after a while, with more things appearing in the game, you may come to the limit again, so I would recommend using the low-res Blue Marble version. It does not look bad at all and it always is better to play stable than risky.

Hello,
it has been a very long time that I post a message on this forum.
I was wondering if there is any way to have the Earth view background
on the Warlord Main menu. If someone can explain to me how, I would really appreciate it. ;)
On a good note, I would like to thank Firaxis for this wonderful game, and thank Civ fanatics for having talented individuals sharing their ideas on this forum. By doing so, it has allowed the great game to evolve to PERFECTION.
I must give credit to Civ Fanatics, for the great improvents of this timeless game. :)

I also would like to have this functionaliy, but I am afraid this is not possible anymore. Only Firaxis could provide such a programming feature.

Thank you for your reply. I have changed the intro of warlords to the Civ Iv original. I have also changed to music on main menu.
If I would just know what is the menu background file name is, ... on the custom assets of warlords I can make the changes... I believe...
The CIV IV Main Menu background is the BEST. :)
