Blue Marble Terrain

Woot woot! I tried Warlords and realized Blue Marble wasnt working.... so then I figured I would have to wait a few days till a new release.. But even better just had to read you guys' observations that you just have to re-run it.. SHHWEET!

How can I tell if Blue Marble is installed properly with Warlords? The main screen background no longer says Blue Marble Edition...how do I know?

I also do not see Blue marble on Warlords, should we install it to the Warlords directory?

The BlueMarble installer is prepared to handle Civ4 Vanilla and Civ4 Warlords, if the addon is detected. So if you run the installer, it looks if Warlords is installed and copies the necessary files accordingly. You can do this at anytime. So if you install Warlords after BlueMarble, you only have to run the BlueMarble installer once more again, so that it can install the necessary Warlords files too. If you click on "List Affected Files" in the BlueMarble installer interface it tells you which files will be installed, and with "Warlords" a Warlords directory should appear.

There is no BlueMarble logo in the Warlords main menu, but with BlueMarble for example the rotating planet in the Warlords game setup screens should look the same as it does in Civ4 vanilla with BlueMarble, that is like a satellite image instead of a hand painted image.

I found Installer has a little problem. There are English and Japanese version civ4 in my PC, but when I run installer, it only prompt me to install into English version, although I copy all files from English folder to Japanese folder, but I think it is better to let user select which version to install.

Sorry Mike, I heard the Asian versions are somewhat different to the US and EU-versions, but as I have no access to the Japanese version, I can't fully support it. :( At least the BlueMarble installer is so smart, that if it does not detect the US/EU version, it asks the user to look manually for the Civ4 folder. So in theory (I can't test it) this should allow a user of the Japanese version to give the path to his version. In your case the problem is, that you have 2 versions installed. So could you perhaps temporarily uninstall the English version to see if the BlueMarble installer then is able to install fine, if the user shows the path to the Japanese version? I am a bit afraid that the Japanese character set also could interfere, but as I can't test all this at my home, I feel like a blind dog sitting on a tree.

I just removed English version, then I installed BM, that is no problems in Japanese version.
But it is not so easy to use, I was prompted the folder of civ4.exe file when I run it every time, can you let program keep the folder so that it can be used from second time. Then can you add a button to show folder selecter?
Anyway, thanks for the great work!

Thanks for the feedback, Mike. But sorry, if the Asian publisher decides to change the installation routines I can't help it, besides that my job currently leaves me no time anymore for Civ4. But there should be an easy solution for your problem: just copy the BM installer into the installation directory of the Japanese Civ4 and start it from there. It then should use this directory as a starting point. Success?

Can I see some side by side screenshot comparisons of Vanillla vs BlueMarble? I don't see much of a difference.

I'm experiencing a bug or undocumented feature of BlueMarble. The gridlines are now appearing white when over land, when under default they turn black over land, and are white over water. This unfortunately makes dotmapping impossible, because when you zoom out to cloud level, half of the gridlines disappear over land. This is true for both Vanilla Civ IV and Warlords.

This disappoints me, because I adore how BlueMarble terrain looks compared to the default terrain graphics. Any chance of a fix?

Nevermind. I uninstalled Civ IV and Warlords, and reinstalled them with no addons. Apparently this is a default Warlords bug, and has nothing to do with Blue Marble. My apologies.

This is correct, I had to change the grid from black to white, because satellite images show darker terrain (except for deserts), and a black grid does not work so well there.

Hmm, I never heard of this bug before. Moreover "Warlords" does not change Civ4 Vanilla at all, so if you have the problem there too, it can't be a Warlords bug. Moreover a white grid should give not more of a problem than a black grid does, the grid is just a texture set with lines. But I have a theory/suggestion. Which BlueMarble texture set do you use? If you use the BlueMarble low resolution texture set, do not set low texture resolution on top of it in the Civ4 options. These effects multiply (divide texture aera by 4 each, making it 1/16 combined) and probably could reduce the already reduced textures to such a small size that the grid actually could become too small.

I've posted a bug report in the appropriate area on these forums. I reloaded Civ IV vanilla and Warlords, and the issue only appears on Warlords. It shows up both with and without BlueMarble installed. I'm using the high-res BlueMarble textures, and high-res settings in the game.

I was wondering if anyone else thought the plains could be a little less green.
Just a little more....golden colored? To help differentiate plains from grasslands a little better? I realize the purpose is to look as natural as possible, but, a little more yellow wouldn't hurt would it?

I agree - Blue Marble is beautiful artwork, and it would only look better with a little more yellow for the plains.
