Blue Marble Terrain

1: Are you in global view, by chance? The forests, jungles, roads, rivers, and so on are all drawn in 2D when you zoom out that far. That's the only thing I can think of...

2: The Blue Marble installer program also acts as an uninstaller. EDIT: Yeah, what Drew there said :P

Ah, thanks for the hint, I corrected the year number in that post.

1: I'm not sure if this is because my computer is stupid or what, but are the forest graphics supposed to be two dimensional?
2D trees on the map? Not at all. I would not even know how to make them 2D. That forests are indeed 3D you should be able to see pressing ALT-F, because with this key you can toggle between regular view and view from above. Such a drastic viewpoint change would reveal any 2D, because the movement would not look realistic in 2D.

Using civ scaling.

Any ways farms and towns can eventually be sorted out? Also, improvements like wineyards?

I set both resources and improvements on 3. Now, some improvements do end up being small, like mines. But farms and cottages are still massive. Which make my cities even tinier than what I set it as.

Otherwise, I love civ scaling, it's enabled me to run huge maps and have super fast scrolling. When usually it'd have slight lag and take a while to zoom in and out.

ColdFever: Working on any new project for Civ4?
I am still working on the German Civ4 Community localization, where I have some co-workers now to further enhance the Civilopedia texts with more info. There also are recordings with a professional narrator to make a speech mod, so that the spoken German language will match the Community texts.

Apart from this I am afraid there is no time for other Civ mods anymore. For BlueMarble and the German community localization I neglected the job and the family in 2005. Now there is a risk of losses in these areas and I have to countersteer. Of course if a patch or an addon would change the Civ terrain graphics, I would try to update BlueMarble, but I cannot sustain this level of dedication for any new stuff. Sorry, I wish my days had more hours. :undecide:

I dropped by this thread just to express my thanks for your UTTERLY FANTABULOUS MOD! I've had it installed since I first heard of it and have never thought of uninstalling. It works perfectly for me.

Sorry to hear about the troubles in your last post, but I'm sure everyone here will agree that if you don't mod anything for CIV ever again it'll be ok; what could top BMT?

Good luck to you and yours.

I have downloaded the blue marble project and I have run it- but it has not changed my graphics. It even says Blue Marble Edition on the main menu screen. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I have the same problems and i haven't played a mp game only single and i cant see any changed graphics  Also i enabled cheats but nothing happens.

Sorry, I have no idea what could be wrong with your system. If you would not see the Blue Marble logo in the main menu, we could try to figure out why your installation went wrong or why Civ4 somehow does not find the mod. But if you see the logo in the main menu, the installation was successful and Civ4 detected the new files. So it should show the new terrain in a standard single player game.

What you can try is to "force" the new terrain via copying the moded terrain files from the "CustomAssets" folder (under "MyGames\Civ...") into the original installation "Assets" folder . Backup the original Assets folder first.

I've downloaded the zip twice & both times it said error reading file when trying to extract the executable.

I tried the unzipper, and it seemed to get farther than the one that comes with xp, but I got the following error message from it:
unzipmessage.jpg

I downloaded from the German mirror and it went fine. Even unzipped with the XP unzipper.

It looks truly amazing, really nice work. You've really set the bar high for all of the terrain modders out there.

Just curious, why did everything get put in 'My Documents'? Lots of the other mod tutorials frown upon that. I thought mods work more reliably when everything is put into the mod folder in 'Program Files/Firaxis/.../mods/'?

The "Mod" folder is the right place for dedicated mod scenarios. The "My Documens\...\Assets" folder is the right place for asset mods you want to use for *all* your Civ4 games: original games and dedicated mod scenarios.

So by using the 2nd approach the BlueMarble terrain works with *all* your original and modded Civ4 games, for example it is also available in the "Tutorial" (that is implemented as a dedicated mod). BTW: some people include the BlueMarble terrain in their dedicated mods to be able to use it in multiplayer (currently the CustomsAssets folder is blocked in multiplayer). This may not be necessary anymore with the next official Civ4 patch, as I heard it may finally support using custom terrain graphics in multiplayer.

Cool! Thanks. It's nice to know the subtle things.
I'm studying terrain changes; seems a tricky things so far, but I'm eager to keep studying it.
