Blut Und Ehre II

Who dared attacked Spain’s ship? The reports claimed that they were being attacked from the Azores, the Canary Isles all the way to Gibraltar! To counter this ever-increasing threat, His Majesty, King Ferdinand will go on a HUGE naval expansion program. The infidels in the Aztec Empire had refused to allow either Greek or Spanish explorers in. They had requested help from England and Bavaria. Bavaria, an ally of Spain, had refused. But the English Protestants had accepted the Aztec offer! Anymore how, a report had come from Governor Pizzaro in northern Mexico:

My Majesty, King Ferdinand I:

They colony is growing well, soon we can apply for admission into the Crown. However, as the population grows, we need soldiers to maintain order. The people here are quite happy, saying that they live in better conditions then how they lived back in Spain. My Lord, you could use that to attract more settlers to the colonies. The chocolate from the cocoa seeds left over after the celebration in Spain is growing well, soon we’ll export them back to Europe where I’m sure they’ll be quite welcomed. We are quite lonely, there are no neighboring colonies are nations. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, people would scream “Aztecs, Aztecs!” It has led me to believe that every person here fears that the Aztecs will attack, kill or capture him or her, and finally sacrifice him or her by cutting out their hearts. I request soldiers immediately, and as much as 6 divisions. Better news, however, is not very evident. Some of our people goes out with boats and trades with the Greeks, they’re very friendly despite our religious differences. If I was to consul his Majesty on foreign affairs, I would suggest you make friends of the Greeks. I await your soldiers, Your Majesty.

End of Report

King Ferdinand wondered over the report, Governor Pizzaro had spoken well, the Greeks would be great allies not just in Europe, but in America as well, since these “privateers” had plundered both Spanish and Greek ships. It was commonly believed that it was from a nation, which did not posses colonies or settlements in America. All this pointed down to 2 nations, Brandenburg, a powerful Germanic and Catholic country, or Britain, long time Protestant, and enemy of France. These raiding WILL be stopped, by God, by the Spanish Royal Fleet, and the hearts of our countrymen!

Story

It has been several years since I first came to the first New Phoenician colony of New Tyre and much has changed. The colony has gone from a crude, camp-like appearance to one of a true village. The barricade is still up, but is much sturdier and much larger than previously. Not that it is needed, of course – the natives are helpful to us, and in fact are close friends now. A number, though not as large a number as most would like, have converted to Islam and wedded themselves to colonists, becoming part of the community.

Speaking of the natives, the women I began educating when I first came to the colony is now among the most educated of the people here, period. Despite her upbringing, she is very bright has been willing to learn all I have to offer her. She has recently converted to Islam herself, leaving behind the primitive nature-gods she once worshipped. I have grown quite attached to her and she to me. Some if the residents say we’re going to wed in a few years, but what do they know?

I made a trip to the new developing colony to the west, named Hannibalae after the old General and Emperor of the Carthaginian Empire, within the week. The trip took a fair number of days, but we arrived right on schedule. I was appalled by the dock they had produced, but recalled the poor state that New Tyre’s dock had been in when I had first arrive, and so shrugged it off. I saw that they were a bit luckier, picking a spot with a fairly wide space of a grassy field.

The basic design of Hannibalae was about the same as New Tyre’s was, though it was rather less crowded in. They didn’t need to clear jungle first to build anything, after all. It was still very crude, however. They grew sugar cane in small gardens all over the place, and I knew that it could quickly become a big export for this colony [sugar was VERY popular in the Empire…and very rare at this point].

I had not heard of any native encounters as of yet, but one cannot be sure that there are none. Few make exploration attempts into the deepest parts of the colony’s land, and there could very well be natives there. I do not fear any reprisal, however, as I exit the colony’s walls to sketch the flowers around the colony. I had not seen such species before around New Tyre and found them quite beautiful. I uprooted a number of them and placed them in some Amazonian clay pots I had brought with me. They would be transplanted once I returned to New Tyre.

I slept that night in the same tent that I had brought with me to the original colony, and unlike my first night at New Tyre, I slept well. The wonders of the New World were everyday things to me now. The next morning I awoke with a start to pouring rains and lightning. It still unnerved me how much rain the colonies received. Compared to the dry plains and deserts of Northern Africa, the climate I had grown up in, New Phoenicia received enough rain to drown the most hardy of crops.

I took the boat back to New Tyre later that day, for the next one wouldn’t be there until about a month later. It was unfortunate because there was still much I could have seen at the colony of Hannibalae…

New Attica and the new world

Founded 1500 AD by Prokopios the great adventurer, the first colony in the new world has become the mayor trading port in the new world. Galleons full of Gold and silver are shipped back to Attica every year and independent traders have begun to sell the new resources found on this island in Greece. Further farmers have started to plant sugar on the island. Sugar plantations were very profitable since the people in Athena, Corinth and Sparta just loved the sweet taste of sugar.

Besides gold and silver, sugar became THE main export from the new world. The Queen had realized how important this branch was and sugar planting was supported by the government. The Indians were offered paid jobs on the plantations and the hundreds of colonists from the new world needed jobs, too. Camps were built to give the workers a home and those camps often became villages.

Meanwhile the Christianization of the natives worked pretty well. Although many of the Taino continued to worship the old god, many were impressed by the churches build throughout the lands. Further many missionaries had learned the language of the Taino and the word of Jesus was actually understood by the Taino. The Patriarch in Athena was pretty confident about the Christianization of the Taino, but the Aztecs worried him. They had to be converted!

Those infidels had continued to upset both, the Queen and the Patriarch and a force had been dispatched to deal with the problem. Conquistadors, as they called themselves, a pretty big force, had sailed from Athena and Patrai towards Mexico. Their goal was to deal with the Aztec Problem. They were better equipped and had a good training and the lust for gold is an excellent motivation.

I will be away from 7/6/04 to 12/6/04. Please make my nation NPC.

@players: this has become my favorite nes here. please keep in mind when doing anything which might affect greece, how you would want to be dealt with.

The festivities had started it seemed. He could hear the people shouting gleefully at the sight of the guards marching in full regallia. The greay overcoats moving like water across the marching bodies who moved as one. It was a marvel that even those carrying teh large drums and tubas could keep step perfectly with their peers. The flags of the regiments and teh nations flutered in the breeze. At the front the cross of saint george glistening as teh light cut it. to the left and right the crosses of St.Paterick and St.john fluttered. teh gold tassles on the flags moved echoing the overall momentum of teh guards. Empire day, the unification of Britannia and the outlying islands was completed on this day hundreds of years earlier whilst the army still ran with teh blue warpaint and pagan ferocity completly lacking in this christian world.

Turning away from the festivites momentarily he saw his wife moving gracefully to his right. His personal horse guards enclosing their rear. He knew that in the distance regimental colours of each and every regiment under the rule of the English crown flew with a dress guard of representatives. In the distance the peak of St.Pauls cathederal rose its tower still unfinished a dissapointing reminder of how busy the nation was in this new era. Diplomatic envoys littered the parade grounds of the tower of London. thats was to be the end of the parade where the soldiers would march in procession each saluting the king and queen. Things like this allways gave him butterflies to see teh power of the nation so literally sent awe shivering up his spine. And then of course there was the navy. The royal navy pride of Britain. they had guarded teh shores of Britain for centuaries with various levels of success.

The crowd gasped awe struck as the men marched onwards an endless column of dust and there atop a chestnut stallion sat teh King. How regal he looked, strong mercifull and intellegent upon such a ride as that left no doubt as to who he was. The captain of the Tower guards came forward and knelt before the king.

"All hail Arthur, King of the Britons and her empire!"
teh crowd erupted in a bellowing roar of Hails it seemed for an instant that teh foundations may be shook from the earth. Pride in Britain had rocketed recently, especially witht eh threat of Brandenburg and Bavaria rising to challenge the navies right to rule teh seas. The king held his hands up and teh crowd was at once silenced.

"Fellow Britons i stand before you. Iam a mere man trained by more mere men we are here to serve the nation and god. Britain is united, Britain is strong, we are free and forever shall be!"

The army bands kicked in instantly playing Rule britannia as one and the nation sang. It sang for joy for freedom and for Britain.
