Boff-02 Behaving Badly

Giving military techs to Monty is a bad idea unless he's your vassal or best friend. He's neither in this case, and he also happens to lead the scoreboard and have two vassals of his own. We do not want to be giving him anything.

IHT - Traded Justin a sheep for a fur getting us some more happytimes.

1580AD -

Guilds comes in, so I select gunpowder on our way to rifles, due in seven turns. The observatory finishes in Aachen so I select a conf. academy, I think we should put on in Nuermberg as well. I freaking hate Sury, he's going for cultural so we're going to have to take care of that. He just built the Spiral Miranet...why does it pop up in the middle of playing my turn? Heal "Ere we go" and press enter.

1585AD - Florence finishes the HE, so I start cranking out longbowmen to help our happy situation. I settle Straussburg:

The conf. light rains down from the skies converting the people and I start a theater...need the borders to pop so we can work that fish since it's one of the only tiles it will ever work!

1590AD - Vienna finishes building Teddy's Fruit Market, and with Teddy's lobbyist breathing down my neck I build him a harbor to get more money from his trades. I hate lobbyists! And wow, another engineer. Looks like we could build a wonder in Augsberg without it taking 300 freaking turns! Not the best course of action but the thought makes me feel better :) I sent him to rest in the GP farm until we could discuss what to make him do. We are going to have to work on getting a great merchant ourselves.

I definitely understand what you guys said about not giving him any type of advantage, and it's not like we're dying to improve relations anytime soon so I tell him to go cry in the corner until we get our army there.
Florence finishes a longbow, so I start a harbor before churning out more. Augsberg is going to grow unhappy so I move a farm onto a hill until we can get some troops there.

1600AD - I hope I didn't smoke too much, I got world map from Sury and Wang:

Ulm finishes the longbowmen so I select another harbor. Our economy is ok but I'm going to settle another city so the extra gold will help.

1605AD - Augs finishes the colosseum so I dialup another harbor. We should have gone for the Great Lighthouse.

IBT - Ere We Go destroys yet another barb galley!

1610AD - Why is there a farm built on the spot that our filler town is going to go? It can't even be worked by anyone lol

1615AD - Gunpoweder arrives!

I select printing press to continue towards riflery and to squeeze a littlre more out of our villages and towns. The conf. academy finshes in Aachen so I select a 3 turn settler. Nuermberg finishes oxford and switches back to building a market...god Moai helps a lot.

1620AD - Florence finishes the harbor so I startt another longbowmen. I start building a farm by Strass..sdfvbev to give it some growth potential...this place is going to have one freaking hammer from the forest.

1625AD - Harbor finishes in Mainz so I dial up an observatory.

1630AD - Aachen finishes the settler, so I dial up a 1 turn missionary to acompany the settler. Prague finshes its observatory so I start a grocer. Vienna finishes the harbor and starts an observatory. Florence finishes another longbowmen and starts churning out another one.

1635AD - And our new town is founded:

I start a rath right away, the piggies will help speed it along soon. I start a grocer at Aachen. Harbor finishes at Ulm so I dial up a library since its a prereq. At the end we are still at +3 gold, but that needs to be improved soon. I don't know if I should have built grocers but there wasn't much else. Here is the power graph so far:

So obviously we are getting trumped by those foul aztecs, we need to get going on getting the military techs we need and start pumping out units.

thankfully quiet turns.

It's just a matter of time before monty loads up some galleons and attacks us, thankfully the AI is poor at sustained transcontinental attacks still.


Got it and all, liq is on some nice pain killers so expect some antics.

As for fake mao island... we want to colonize it or settle it?

Well seeing the Powergraph and the map (Monthy almost having more land than us) we might need that land for making units - 3 more cities - even mediocre ones - with Mining Inc can do wonders...
 
Regarding the farm on the filler town spot, I built it to connect the irrigation ditches to the Roosevelt Memorial Rice, so our new city in the area could get full benefit from it. That, and because I didn't have much for the workers to do.

We do want to get boats to those islands still. It's slightly more pressing now, because some of the other AIs have our map and know about the islands without looking for them themselves. I would classify the map trades as a minor :smoke:, just because we already had explorers run rampant through their lands (we have OB with everyone except Monty). I haven't looked at the save yet, but if the maps included shots of Monty's land, then I guess it wasn't that bad.
 
Preturn:

So open open the save and we need a great merchant. Jelly still has no grocer to double the artist specs and is building research to great effect... lose 3 turns on printing press to start on this grocer now.

Notice a ton of workers trying to farm forests. I turn off all automation on these guys, no more automated workers!!!! if you are purposely nuking forests this late in the game, wake the eff up people and stop it.

Need lots of infra still =/

First trade I do is surys dye for our one wheat.. dye is effing 2x happys and we have excess health. this trade should have been done many turns ago.

Jelly now has 4 extra happys and 3 health to grow into so work all it's fishies.

Queue up monistaries at the end of each town missing one as we want to nail those sooner rather than later.

monty is nailing communism in 2 turns.. god. Lubeck gets confused as the missionary was sitting there all set.. nice job.

We get a great scientist from AA and so... hmm I debate. he bulbs printing press so I take that as we need the leg up now.

boom we nail it and we get 15 gold a turn more not to mention about 10 more beakers. Banking in 4 finally.

Ulm pops it's 3rd border so we can start irrigating pisa. Gonna pave over a few cottages though the chain cannot go though pisa since it;s on a hill.


Workers are about to get a vacation. as there's little to do til mils and rails.

Nurem pops it's market and we need to get it going soon. I stall to build a 9 turn observatory tho.

Move Vienna back to growth as it wasn;t working it's wheat...

monty is doing military tradition in 8 joy. we need 15 turns for that tech... this isn;t good hehe.

bank in 10-12 for both

jelly also fires it's scientists for 4x merchants and we are up to 19 gold a turn. 16 turns worth of great merchant odds, it's 37% now so lets see.

+19 gold at 50% research so lets see if can nail 60. leak 14 gold a turn but get a turn off replaceable so do it.

Monty builds the taj and gets a golden age ug... constitution in 4 for him.

Nuremberg finally finishes it's observatory and it launches commerce mode...

uh was gonna post boring screens but rest assured it's pushing out over 100 beakers now and it's still in hybrid hammer mode to finish it's cathedral in 15.

replaceable parts in 3ish and workers are poised to start mills all over.

Push science to 80% to nail replaceable parts next turn.

So far 11 turns on a jelly GP and it's 47% merchant.

All hail lumber mills. Nuremberg has both forests getting milled and the main worker army is on hammer row... florance and co. One worker per forest. Can actually use some workers now hehe.

Rifling in a nominal 11 turns at -8 gold a turn.

AA is on a settler and florance has one turn on a galleon(with 3 more q'ed). And ulm has a long bow going. all 3 combined = crab town or fake mao land... we need to decide colony or forbidden.

I say we get riling and then go on the offensive before monty does. Sury first target and we should nail rifles well before they do as they are all stalling on rifling.

Got some really critical infra done and well our econ is looking much better. Florance was pushing out long bows the entire time and sending them over to augs and vienna.

Jelly is 47% merchant and we have time for another gp before bio. After rifling, we have a few options so open for discussion. Free market looks good tho.

I ignored the new towns for the most part so they can use some mm. greendotburg is growing fast though, nice town for sure.

who's up now? i can play tomorrow.

after rifling we should go for chemistry so we can start building frigates. last thing we could use now is monty showing up with a navy.

our science is looking better now, but who made monty a decent techher 0o.
how is sury doin on the teching department?

what are our plans considering civics? after rifling we could go for nationalism for a while and draft some rifles? also we could put the globe down in florence, or is florence reserved for other national wonders?

represitation seems pbvious as alot of our beakers come from it. are goin for mercantalism? the free specs + rep has a nice sunc but we would loose those lucrative oversea trade, so free market has some uses as well also the -25 corp maintance is very nice. and which religious civic do we use now? goin pacifism would speed up our GPP but theo gives us 1 promo rifles with baracks when drafted.
 
acually yeah you can go Corneh... no idea on a roster hehehe.

I vote punking a town on fake mao directly on the western side of the island... 2 fish no ocean and ponys ... nice city.

I would let another gally build to be sure to load up quite a lot of military for it tho as there's a barb town we want to kill.

Ah I got ya Sil, about the farm. True about the World map and our future colony, I didn't think about that I was just hoping to see the other landmass in its entirety. We definitely need to bring some military to the island with the settler, once the barbs know we have a city there they will try to attack.

Liq, try re-uploading the save when you're not racked with pain. I can't get it either, as it redirects to a 1x1 gif file, lol.
 
There was some server mess and a few uploads might be gone because they had to use a backup from a day earlier.
 
They must not, but they can.
I dont remeber the exact reason, why we built it like this, but i am sure there was one.
 
diagonal works but can be straight as well. If mainz wasn;t there, we could have plunked a fort north of the lake (ne n or nw0 and 2 forts south for the 5 tile canal. We only did it wacky like that so
a. we only used desert tiles.

b. snagged that iron with a minimum of forts.

c. it looks 'kewlz'

Almost looks like we world build'ed it hehe.
