Boff-02 Behaving Badly

Steel sounds good. Is on Railroad path anyway.

Sorry for the lack of response. Been a bit busy with stuff lately.

Steel is definitely the way to go if we can afford to. Cannons will allow us to push back any invasion force that Monty decides to bring (assuming we don't sink it). And anything that gets us to railroads faster is good, as we need that productivity boost, and it will be cheap with Rathaus everywhere.

It's ok, sorry I haven't posted yet my semester is just ending. I kinda forgot I had a 20 page thesis on the Rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany due yesterday so I was working on that for quite awhile hehe. But now all my classes are done! This will be my last play probably, I leave for vacation on July 29th.

Replacable Parts -> Rifling :(

All in all quiet turns thankfully, no DOW's yet.

IHT - All the cities look good, so we start:

1728AD - Wow lots finished as the golden age ended.

Musket finishes in Aachen so I start a landsk. Prague finishes a priv. so i start another one. Gotta keep building military! Vienna finished its bank so i start a treb. Conf. academy finishes in nuermberg so a bank takes its place. We are losing 34 gpt after the golden age so we need to get some more money rolling in. I take science down from 70% to 60% and it turns into +8gpt...that won t last long after all the units we are about to build.

Jelly finishes a priv. so i start a frigate...gotta mix it up. Mainz finishes priv so i start another one there. Good lord figuring out where to put all these pretty privateer's is going to be fun :) Ulm als finishes a priv...imagine that! I start a frigate there as well. And ANOTHER priv is done in florence, so i keep the ball rolling and start another. Phew, what a way to start.

1730AD - Conf. monastery finishes in Strassburg so I start a granary to aid growth. Damn after the last turn this was quite boring. Just moving around boats and such.

1732AD -
111rifling.jpg

So that finishes finally, I start steel like discussed. Florence finishes a priv., I decide to start a frigate.

1734AD - Aachen finishes the Lands, so I bring up a settler to star filling in the two fill cities.

1736AD -
111gimmegrocer.jpg

God I hate whiners, but I give in since I guess it's a good idea :-P Florence finishes the frigate so i start a bank.

GIMME MY MONEY!!!

Luxemberg finishes theater so i start a conf. temple for happy people :)

111byebyecaravel.jpg

Pfff. A caravel.

111grrmoresettler.jpg

And the fools keep settling that stupid island...we're just going to take it from you!

1738AD - Jelly finishes the frigate so i start a treb., gotta get ready to invade sully soon, hopefully monte doesnt strike us first. Ulm finishes frigate so i start a priv.

1740AD - Aachen finishes a settler so i switch to a missionary for the to-be city. Prague finishes a priv, i start a customs house. I think this is smoking since there isn't going to be much trade soon, you guys tell me.

111bradenburg.jpg

I start a theater here.

111whiners.jpg

The people of Florence are now unhappy because they want emancipation...what to do what to do...I decided to leave it until we discussed it.

111lookwhattheyrupto.jpg

Look what's going on over there on that island.

1742AD - Mainz finishes a priv, so i start a grocer.

1744AD - Missionary finishes in aachen, so i send him to spread our beautiful culture to brenberg or whatever. Augs finishes the observatory, so I start a bank. I stagnate jelly now that it is at its happycap. It's so nice to see all those merchants working that city!

1746AD - Lubek finishes a rath so i start a granary.

1748AD - This pops up immediately:
111tradewkon.jpg

I try to negotiate it for lib but he didnt bite :(

Pisa finshes the conf. monastery, I dial up a lighthouse to get the most from that little fishy.

I kill another caravel...not even worth a screenshot.

1750AD - Aachen finishes the lands., I start a treb. I really hope these aren't stupid things to be building :( Ulm finishes the priv, dialing up a frigate.

This is where I'll stop, steel comes in next turn. Monte's power is basically off the chart, we're so lacking!

I've got it... Looks like we've got some tough decisions coming up soon. We're at 3 unhappy faces from Emancipation, and we're nowhere near getting it. The AIs have a leg up on us with Constitution, Democracy, Military Tradition, and Scientific Method. Hopefully Scientific Method is slowing them down just a bit so we can regain ground.

We need to be massing rifles now that we have rifling. That's our main advantage right now for torching anyone, along with Cannons when we get them. Science will probably suffer if we want to dedicate to an offensive against Sury or Monty.

ahh ok can finally sit at the pc for longer than 20 seconds... as liq wakes up at 11 pm :crazyeye:

Looks like a tough game here with monty going crazy. But I'll look over the turns tomorrow as I'm wiped out.

Cheers!
-Liq

I'm going to play it right now, as if I don't, I won't have time to play it until probably midweek. I'll concentrate on buffing our military up for war, and damaging the enemy economy.

EDIT: We need Constitution for Corporation and therefore Mining Inc. I'm inclined to surrender Replaceable Parts for it...

i would say do the trade with survy as he aint very friendly with the zumy block so he might not trade it away

Well, another option is packaging economics with something else, and sending it in Justinian's direction. Would probably have to be Gunpowder though.

Wang is also 4 turns from Lib, if we want to get anything from him for that. Keep in mind the HBR is needed for Cavs and such, if we want to use them.

silver did u get a chance to play? else we could skip you till youre able to, in that case refar is up. Unless liq feels he is better enough to play again :)

Sorry about the wait. Finished the turns late last night, and was too tired to crop screens. Did so today after being out for almost the whole day... seems I'm busier on weekends, boo.

1750AD (385):

Preflight check. Ok, our economy is somewhat roughed up at the moment -29 gpt at 60% science. Monty and Sury are both in Emancipation, causing us some pain. This is mainly a problem because it means they both have Democracy, so they are up on us in techs. We NEED to trade techs to stay competetive, especially with our self-imposed isolated start. I will see what I can do with regards to that. Let me do a zoom through of our cities first.

Aachen is building a Treb. We get steel next turn for auto-cannons, but Trebs are fairly underwhelming. Dial a rifle instead. Also rejuggle some tiles to get us a bit more commerce.

Prague is halfway done a customs house, but that is useless, because we seem to have no foreign trade routes for some reason. We are about to hurt for happiness, so switch to a rifle.

Vienna is working on a Grocer, which is good, but it is pissed and still growing, so I stagnant it and hire a merchant.

Nuremburg is pissed and polluting at the same time. We are building a bank, which is done in 2 turns, so best to let it finish, but we lack a grocer and even a basic aqueduct. We also need to be making more troops for the cities...

Jelly is also building a useless customs house, and it is polluting. A 5 turn aqueduct is started.

Augsburg can be juggled around a bit to promote more commerce and freeze at the happy cap in a few turns. We also have a bank going here, which is a fairly good idea due to all the cottages.

Mainz is at its happy cap, so stagnant with a merchant.

Ulm lacks some commerce buildings, but that is fine, because the place has no commerce to speak of. We are building ships out of here, which seems to be a good idea, but I switch us to a Rifleman, as no hammers invested in the Frigate yet.

Florence is extremely pissed, and we decided to build a bank here first, with no grocer, no market, no library, no university, and no observatory........ well, we are almost done, so let it finish. I'll see what I can do to help this town in terms of garrison. Oh, well didn't have to try too hard. A longbow and a catapult from nearby move into the town and we lose 2 angry people. One left.

Pisa taking forever on the lighthouse, so stagnant for more hammers.

Luxemburg is pissed and has a citizen spec, which I reassign as an engineer. Temple done in 2 to fix that problem. I also notice that we have 2 units standing OUTSIDE this city on a hill. Move the archer into the city and everyone shuts up. Send the axe to Jellystone.

Strassburg is new, so not much to do here without even a granary done...

Lubeck is bad, and I'm not sure why we are having a citizen spec instead of working a coastal tile. It gets us an extra hammer, but we get food and commerce from the coastal tile, and we can then whip the granary.

Brandenburg is brand new, in the middle of the empire, and is building a theatre.... so we can run an artist as our free specialist??? Dial a granary in 15 turns.

I delete two Galleys to save some gold. We are better off building improved units. We are now at -12gpt.

Let's see what we can do with trades.

set5justinianfish.jpg

Cuts our losses to -5gpt.

Also... We need to catch up in Tech, so I will leverage our monopoly on Gunpowder...

set5justiniantechtrade.jpg

Hitting Enter to try and get Corporation and Demo next turn.

1752AD (386):

Steel comes in, and we are in the Industrial Era...

Steam is the obvious choice for Rails fast.

Oh, and Wang Kon leaves the "protection" of Monty. Yay for one less person declaring war on us later.

So the AIs are hiding everything except Sci Method, which we DON'T want... They don't want to start trading the techs away just yet... great...

set5techadvisor.jpg

Ok, so we sink a Wang Kon Galleon and blockade some ports with Privateers. We need to be getting some returns off these ships, not just building them. I also don't understand why we sent all of them to Fake Mao island... There is little to be taken there, they should be feasting on the port cities of the enemy mainland!

Now making +3gpt.

1754AD (387):

Wang Kon wants to cancel Fish for 6gpt. Ok, whatever. The blockades are in effect this turn, sucker!

I attack the Barb town with the Musket with 61% odds and lose. Oh well. Load the worker back onto the Galleon and sail home. Privateers looking for better targets.

Nuremberg's bank is done, so dial for a grocer, as we have no barracks here.

Florence bank is done, and pissed people means a market.

Temple is Lux done, and we have no Rathaus, so let's go!

1756AD (388):

An unsupported Privateer gets punked on the Northwest side of the enemy continent. Boo.

We get a great Random Event from Lubeck.

set5goldrush.jpg

The place is now starving though, so use the extra pop to whip the granary. lol, I spent money to convince people to settle down in the town so I could whip them :p.

1758AD (389):

Continuing to punk random boats and set up blockades outside enemy cities.

Lubeck's Granary is done, and we need a lighthouse next.

1760AD (390):

An uber Privateer fights off two of Sury's caravels, to earn some big XP.

Wang wants to trade World Maps. I don't see a reason to.

More random ownage of enemy boats happens and we continue to rake in cash from Privateers.

Rifle done in Aachen, and we can build IW, but I stall as we have not a lot of health here. More rifles...

Jelly's aqueduct is done, so we are problem free in Jelly. Dial for a jail, so we can use spies here when needed.

1762AD (391):

Monty adopts Free Speech AND Free Religion, as we set up more blockades. Now blockading Sury's capital. Sure to bring a big response via caravels...

The result of this is that Monty no longer hates us. His excuse for not trading is now WFYABTA. The jerk never even traded with us.

Rifle done in Ulm, so slotting in a dry dock, as we have spare health, and not much growth potential here anyways...

1794AD (392):

Yaso gets completely cleaned out of cash by Privateers, and we continue to rack up XPs sinking ships. We get Charles Martel (General) in Jellystone. Sending him down to the GP farm, likely to imbed into Aachen.

Granary done in Straus, so dial a forge, as we need plenty of stuff in this place.

1766AD (393):

I notice we are cashing in bigtime from the privateers, so I turn up science a notch. We are technically bleeding 35gpt a turn, but the raids make up for it, lol. See how long we can sustain this...

Mainz finishes a grocer, and we are stagnant so dialing for a drydock.

1768AD (394):

lol, our treasury increased by 11gpt this turn despite the BS with 70% science.

A market is done in Florence, and I'm going for an Aqueduct so we can install drydocks.

Pisa lighthouse done, growth in 7, temple in 12. Good to go.

1770AD (395):

Nothing at all interesting happening. Blockades still bringing in tonnes of cash for deficit research. Monty does not appear to be amassing a fleet to attack us with, as his two coastal cities have almost nothing in them of note.

Rifle done in Aachen, go for another Rifle.

Vienna grocer done, stagnanting at happy cap and dialing a drydock.

1772AD (396):

Damn, Monty is teching fast. He bagged Physics and is now using Airships on our privateers. Hope they last...

Jelly's jail is done, now going for a Cannon.

Rathaus in Lux saves us a TON of money. The city has bad commerce, but mad mines. Slapping a rifle into the queue.

1774AD (397):

We lose another privateer to a caravel rush. I should start stacking these, but they don't make any extra money from blockades in pairs.

Nuremberg Grocer is done, dial a duct, because bad hammers don't contribute much to troops.

1776AD (398):

set5steampower-1.jpg

Other than that... Coal pops on the hill outside Aachen. Monster town for sure. Sury also gets a golden age, and we get another Great Scientist. I want to embed him in Nuremberg, but will let the team discuss.

Crap, Monty just teched Replaceable Parts...

Ok, RR in 15.

Ulm's Drydock finishes, so go for a Galleon, as we are pimped for boats here.

Florence Aqueduct finishes, drop in a drydock.

1778AD (399):

Frig, Vienna gets hit by a hurricane...

set5hurricane.jpg

For some reason, I can't choose to let citizens die instead of building blow up :p. I guess because it isn't a choice in real life. Boo.

Well, ok the market got blown up, and so does the harbor. Put those back in...

Rifle done in Aachen, and it's Levee time!

Augsburg is done a bank, so slot in an aqueduct to be whipped to fix the problem here.

1780AD (400):

Privateers slowly but steadily getting blown up. Justinian kills one with massed caravels, while another is being chased by Monty caravels after toasting a Galleon.

Duct done in Prague, and dialing for a rifle.

Just noticed this turn that the AI will trade away Military Tradition. This might be a good idea, as we can plunk down WP, and start cranking out Veteran Cavs. Justin will take Rep Parts and a lump sum of gold (which we have thanks to privateers). Although no one will give any ground for other, more important techs.

We still need Democracy to adopt Emanci, which is starting to kill us, although more troops can solve that issue. Troops may need to be rejuggled. Speaking of which, 75% of our military is way obsolete. Don't know if we want to upgrade them, or disband them to save money as we make more rifles.

Monty is really killing us in tech, at least in the Scientific Method area. No one has even hit chem yet though, so we still have a lock on Mining Inc.

We need more cottages around, methinks. 70% science and we are still below 600 bpt... which isn't good considering we own a continent. Might have to have some discussion about where to plow over forests/farms to plunk down cottages.

Sorry, my internet died away :(

The inquiry with my ISP hotline was inconclusive so far: "Since it is close to the end of the month i might have exceeded my bandwich or maybe its some local technical problem". They were unable to "check it right now"

If it is the bandwich i will be back on 1 August. If it is a technical problem it might take the well organized and customer friendly german telecom everything from 1 hour to 3 month to fix it...

So unless i know more i must ask to put me on indefinite skip :(

pre flight check:
were getting killed by unhappiness lets try to change this

make a trade with zumy:

tradezumy.jpg

make a trade with survy:

tradesurvy-1.jpg

now that we got some happyness i let some cities grow who were stagnated because of unhappiness
i whip a lighthouse in lubeck because it cant grow anymore

turn 1
nothing much

turn 2
our privateers kill a sh*tload of boats we do lose one privateer as noone is near chem i start building new privateers as long as the ai is using its navy against our privateers they wont attack us

turn 3
nothing much

turn 4
monty asks for open borders i agree lets be friends monty <3

turn 5
we cant see monty's research anymore so i put all our ep's to him remember to spread it out again when we can see his research again

turn 6
nada the ai havent attacked our privateers fort a couple of turns it seems we destroyed the ai's naval capabilities

turn 7
more privateer killings im hunting ships myself now for free gg points.

turn 8
another boring turn except for our privateer army :D

turn 9
nothing to speak off :(

turn 10
we lose another privateer but 2 more are build this turn the ai cant fight the tide :D

turn 11
finally RR comes in, i choose combustion but no beakers invested as this is my last turn ill play
and a GM has been born in jelly i send him to our GP farm

ok some points of concern
monty has rifles as well and here is our powerchart

powerchart3.jpg

i think we should gear up for a war with WK he is weak and will give us a foothold on monty´s isle

instead of combustion we could choose to get corporation ourself so we get mining inc.

survy finished the kremlin this turn meaning he has communism allready for some time

The Monty rifles are a big reason for concern. We can't continue to ignore the other continent for long, as Monty is easily out-teching us.

Corporation right now is a no-brainer. I lined it up so we could try and trade for it while research Railroad. Since we are done RR now, we might as well take the 5 turns to tech Corps, since no one will trade it to us.

We still have a military tech lead on Sury, so I think we need to take the fight to him while we buff our economy with Mining Inc. Rathaus' allow any corporation to run at a profit; just stick the HQ in the Wall St. city (Prague right?). Spam the corp for the hammers and extra income to fund war and research. Meanwhile, we need to drop in on Sury with Rifles and Cannons, before he gets rifles himself. It may be too late already, but cannons ensure we have an edge for a while. Machine guns are also very obvious defensive units for keeping the spoils of war, especially with no one even remotely near industrialism.
