C-IV Botm CCI: Poseidon

The gods have left Olympus to rule on Earth, each in their own domain, scattered to the four corners of the Earth. Some of the other gods regard him with fondness, others with emnity, but shockingly few bend the knee to mighty Zeus and his rightful role as allfather and chief of the gods. You are determined to put that right and bring them all under his rule again. Of course with the gods of Mount Olympus walking the earth human religions cannot be allowed to thrive and they have been consigned to the underworld where no living being may go, even if you could get by the fearsome Cerberus. How will you defeat the challenges posed by both the human and the divine and establish Zeus once again as ruler of all the worlds with you by his side?

Sounds familiar? Oh yes you played this as BOTM 200, this month you get to play the other half of the team!

Adventurer Class Starting Bonuses:

You play as Brontes (Protective & Expansive) much as you like Zeus you do not agree he should be ruler of all in fact you rather fancy the position yourself!

Here is your starting location:-

Atlas (Philosophical & Expansive), you despise Zeus for the terrible place he has put you in charge of, from here it will be very difficult but you too are determined to rule the world!

Here is a link to a list of the differences between Vanilla, Warlords and BtS.

Software Versions
Windows:
This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the BUFFY mod version 3.19.005 installed. You can download the BUFFY mod here. Players using Windows Vista or Windows 7 are encouraged to read the notes on Vista fixes here.
Macintosh: This game MUST be played in Beyond the Sword (NOT Civ4 Vanilla or Warlords), patched to version 3.19, and with the Mac BUFFY mod version 3.19.003 installed. You can download the Mac BUFFY mod here.

While playing...

Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

We will open 'spoiler' threads during the month for players to discuss what happens in their games. Do not discuss any details of your game outside those threads.

Cool. We're (almost) live!

Question: I see a bunch of 'dots' in Dyme. Do we start with all those units in the real game, or will we start with for example a super-Archer and a normal warrior, like in BOTM 200? Will Zeus get all those units instead, or will he be kind of a sitting duck against a horde of barbs?

Not a major concern, but were you able to fix the empty city names?

Yes, but you will just see the normal Civ names unfortunately.

You will start with a warrior, ignore the dots!

He has his super archer so fingers crossed!!

Hmm, that sounds like something that shouldn't be available given the uniqueness of these two games. People can of course look up stuff from their BOTM 200 games (please don't), but at least they won't have full access to absolutely everything.

I'd like to try to play this as a normal game, trying to ignore various pieces of map knowledge.

Small thing: the "large" map on the GOTM page goes to a missing link.
Spoiler :
Sorry, your requested page cannot be found on the GOTM server..

edit: What are the traits now again? Imp + Phil (Suleiman) ?

Had a quick look at the contender save and there seems to be a mistake. At least I don't think that Poseidon is supposed to start without any units as is the case with the current save. Note that the warrior in Dyne belongs to Zeus!

@Noble Zarkon can you clarify this?

Whatever. I don’t get it though. The pair of games were set up so in the second you have map knowledge. I quit 200 so early I don’t even know where the talked about iron is. Anyone who teched to Satellites knows everything...

The adventurer save is the same: No player-owned units, and a warrior in the capital who turns out to be owned by Zeus (which could be intriguing since we don't have open borders so he's there illegally!). So I quit the game without playing any turns, and will wait to see what @Noble Zarkon decides should be done.

btw I love how in the starting screenshots, the challenger capital is called 'Pleuron' - genuinely the name of an ancient city but instantly made me think of the French word pleurons (= (we) cry). Seems kinda appropriate! I wonder if anyone will dare take challenger after all the reports of how impossible it apparently was in BOTM 200.

I’m expecting WT to smoke it with map and enemy knowledge.

Oops - will sort and reload!!

I don't think we can publish BOTM 200 until this is finished as well - there are still some secrets no one has figured out I think :-)

OK I've fixed the saves and re uploaded.

I noticed you start with what I guess must be Immortal techs (Agriculture, Hunting, Mining and Archery) on the Adventurer and Challenger saves, I'm not going to change that as the adventurer save is more difficult than normal for that level and the Challenger save is brutal so a little bit of help might be appreciated!

If we played Adventurer save in BOTM200, are we allowed to play Contender save in BOTM201? My guess is yes, but just wanted to check.

As I understood you ain't going to provide WB save till this game's finish. What about BOTM200 participant's saves?

Did anybody conquer the Cyclopes in BOTM200? No one has reported such a thing.
Let's pick up the challenge to teach them a lesson this BOTM?? (or will the players be the ones receiving a lesson :) ..........again)

Let's see. There have been 200 BotM's and hundreds more xotM's with no prior knowledge of the map (except those flashback/replay ones --where they did hide the previous knowledge-- from years and years ago). This is the one time we get to play with map knowledge, and you hope we'll play like we don't remember? :crazyeye:
If I play, I plan to refer back to the old game shamelessly. I don't think that surprises anyone. :D

Amen.

Totally. Should release the WB-file too. Then we can have the WorldBuilder up in one window and "play" in the other. It will be very-very fun.

As usual I'll stay away from using zillion exploits stacked on top of each other, and thereby heavily gimp myself. This is so much fun!! Like playing a roleplaying game with walkthroughs.

Actually, not sure I want to play. Why even bother.

I feel sorry for the scenario makers. They try hard to put together enjoyable experiences only to have party poopers .... That’s okay, though, to each his own. You’re entitled to your opinion. :)

I play to compete with my friends. I’m in the opposite position to you. Having played only a few turns of B200, they all know where the “special lake” is, resources, overseas AIs, when wonders are built and by whom, and much more. Why would I play?
