I finished Animal Farm a few weeks ago, as a great friend of mine borrowed me that book and Brand New World. A second friend also recomended it, so it is my next one on the list after 1808 from Laurentino Gomes.

I wonder how it relates to the game. Surely developers liked the phrase in and of itself, but how much of the novel is reflected in the game? Will Aldous Huxley be a Great Person in the expack, and his work Brave New World? That would be so meta.

Yes, and he'll be a skill-dorado Great Person. Using him automatically makes you influential over half of the other Civs in the game, and doubles your delegates. I'm considering modding him out of the game, TBH...

I can see why 1984 is more popular than Brave New World.
Aldous Huxley is a damn cool name though.

Just finished Spice: The History of a Temptation and pretty much figured out why Firaxis chose Nutmeg etc, and Venice as the interviews about Indonesia and it's unique resources as well as about Venice are word for word in Chapter 1: The Spice Seekers.

I just read Brave New World about a year ago. It's quite an eye opening novel to say the least.

Read it, wrote papers on it (and 1984, and dystopian fiction in general), have the T-shirt.

If you're enjoying it, and haven't read 1984, read that too. Also, Handmaid's Tale, Fahrenheit 451, A Clockwork Orange... and then if you still want more, talk to your local librarian.

Or me, I'm a librarian. Just not local.

There are references to the book in the achievement names in Steam.

And do what Grumpbeard says. All of those books should be required reading.

EDIT: Read it along with 1984 and Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here" in 8th grade. Great stuff, and far more relevant to today's world than they were when I read them in 1995.

I've read it, although that was about a decade ago. I liked it a lot, although as dystopian futures go, I vastly preferred 1984. Although Brave New World did offer an interesting counterpoint, focusing on different ideas. The dystopia felt less totalitarian/political and more... dunno, consumerist.
