Brave New World's 9 new Civs

The Italian Republic. That's right I went there.

Probable:
1- Poland
2- Assyria (Used Seige Towers extensively. However, Siege Towers could be an upgraded Battering Ram and Attila gets a different UU).
3- Portugal (International trade routes)
4- Indonesia/Brazil (Tourism)
5- Kongo/Zulu/Zimbabwe (Scramble for Africa)
6- Cherokee/Apache/Sioux (Played role in Civil War)
7- Khemer (Trade)
8/9- Probably any of the options I said in 4/5.

My wish list:
Cahokia (Largest civilization in N America. Large trade routes. At one time Cahokia was probably the largest city in the world).
Inuits (Why not? Could be fun).
Israel/Tibet (Would be hard to add for people without G&K).
Canada/Australia/Aborigines (Never gonna happen).
Venice (Trade routes, but may be too many European civs)

Cahokia was never any where near the largest City in the World, it was at it's height probably the largest in the Americas and potentially of a similar scale to London or Paris at the time, but they were no where near the largest cities. At it's height c.1250 C.E. it's population was of the order of 12-15,000, with some estimates as high as 40,000. Whilst this is impressive in the context of it's region (North of the great Meso American Empires), when compared to contemporary cities such as Hangzhou or Baghdad, which at the time had populations around the 1 million mark, this suddenly seems a lot smaller. It makes a good City State though.

At times like these, I go back to my heavily modded Civ 4 game. With all the features in Mods like RoM it's easy to forget Civ 5 for a while.

If Khmer's in it'll be about Wonders and Tourism, or maybe moving food production etc. around INSIDE the empire (That's how they built all that stuff, they had elephants move stuff around. would be a great UU/UA imo).

A bit too close to Siam; but the more I think about it, the more plausible it sounds.

I think Italy or Vietnam would be more likely though, just because of Siam, although honestly, I think it's different enough...

I can never understand how you can wonder about Siam being too similar to Khmer with Austria and Germany both in game already.

The fact you have Khmer statues in Ramkhamhaeng's background really indicates how little many people are able to differentiate between the two nations. I don't worry about them being too similar; I worry about the developers and the general audience not knowing that they aren't. People on this site generally have played enough civ and have done enough reading to be fairly well-versed in world history and cultures.

Austria and Germany is less problematic because the west is western-centric (I say west because Eastern Europe is often ignored as well).

7. Holy Roman Empire (Fan demand, steals Landsknecht, Tectonic Knight?)

Fan demand? You are kidding, right??
At least 90% of the players thought that the addition of HRE to Civ IV was a HUGE mistake

Belgium: The great colonial powers of the world are scrambling to explore the Dark Continent (africa scenario)

Pretty sure they are in the game. And Congo olso

No
I'm sorry, but Belgium isn't significant or unique enough
They might get in as a scenario civ, but definitely not as a full civ

If they get in, what would be next??
Courland, because they also had some colonies?

If there is Poland, there will be Ukraine as well, since Poland is quite a defective civ without Ukraine - whom else could they colonize in their history?

Speaking seriously, I hope so much that my what-the-hell-its-not-Russia? country will finally get at least small city state.

Some posts suggests that Assyria will be included in the new expansion as 100%. I have only seen Poland as a confirmed new civ? There was a picture of Poland and another civ in new colours but my first assumption, judged by the colours, was that it would be the Papal States. But I don't know if they are "big" enough to be considered, what do you think? But I think they should add at least one religious civ!

At first the siege tower made me think that it would be a new unit that every civ could use, but I don't really see where it would fit. The picture of Poland and their new winged Hussars suggested that it was a medieval-renaissance era unit. That probably doesn't have to mean anything though since its not actual gameplay, but an Assyrian UU should surely come during the ancient or classical age?

Perhaps looking at the list of the minor civs could be enlightening? After all, Firaxis has taken from the list in Gods and Kings, so they may do it again.

I agree, Kyiv should at least be a city-state. I'm still puzzled how it hasn't appeared in-game yet, unless Firaxis really plans to add a Ukrainian civ.

I would rather see Minsk, Polotsk or Smolensk from the area
IIRC all those 3 were closer to city-states than Kiev

We already have so many capitols of bigger countries as city states, I'd say one more won't hurt.

I'm not against them, I really like the Kievan Rus and it's history
Just mentioned that if we are talking about city-states, there are some more historically plausible cities in the area

Based on the city states list, my predicitions would be that, besides Poland, we will see at least some of the following:

Italy (with Florence, Milan, Monaco, Ragusa, Venice and/or Genoa on city list) (a renaissance-era trade-focused civ)
Portugal (a renaissance-era exploration focused civ)
Phoenicia (with Tyre and Sidon) (an ancient era exploration focused civ)
Switzerland (Geneva, Zurich)
Israel (Jerusalem)

The remaining three will be out of:
Nepal
Malaysia
Indonesia
Vietnam

I think it's one thing to say some previously added civs used to exist in-game as city states.

It is quite another thing to say all the remaining civs in BNW will be those that currently exist as city states.

Ragusa is in Croatia, the city that is now Dubrovnik, it was initially called the Italian City in game, but has since been corrected.

...and no, there won't be Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Malaysia or Nepal. Quote me on that.
