Bribing AI to DoW another AI - is it really worth it?

I'm starting to question that they even have a 10turn treaty even when they make peace themselves.
Have been seeing AIs start plotting on the target they have made peace with two times the last month or so, when I went into preparation mode because I was sure that they had a peace treaty, but then they suprise me abit later by simply declaring on their target again.

Maybe it was just ceasefires? Do the AIs do that?
They should because it usually says when you hover over their picture after they make peace "peace treaty with xxxx".

Yes, it was that hovering over message that made me confident.
"Oh, Boudica made peace with Isabella 3 turns ago, and now she is plotting. For SURE it's on Churchill which is her worst enemy, I should plan for that but also be abit prepared that it might be an oddboll DoW on me.
But then a while later... She just DoWs Isabella.

So either they can _start_ to plot against the AI they have peace treaty with, or that peace treaty message is ill informed somehow.
Perhaps some ceasefire..? Perhaps that 10 turns rule don't apply at all.

IIRC there are situations where AIs will re-evaluate their war plans, perhaps a peace treaty running out is one of them?

@AcaMetis
And what does my favorite reason for refusal "We would have nothing to gain" mean?
Target is too much of a hassle. Power, War status and Land target status can affect it, and it goes both ways.

EDIT: I see that the actual answer was posted upthread. I'm not far off.

For instance Shaka may be more willing to attack a stronger AI who is far away than a weaker one on his border, and more willing to attack someone on his border if they are already at war.

From experience (nothing hard data-wise) the more aggressive/militant the AI the less of this you see, which is why leaders like Suleiman and Qin are such a pain in the ass -- they will freely attack people on their own if they don't like but tend to be cowardly in terms of bribing them even if it's possible along attitude lines.

Actually, it's the opposite. Land target status lowers the threshold for an AI to go to war. So the AI on his borders may be twice as strong for the check to succeed compared to the faraway target.

yeah seen this a few times. once they plot and you beg gold or wahtever, they can sometimes change targets, stop plotting or continue plotting and just wait out a treaty. might also happen when treaties expire? dunno tbh.
I made up a test game (requires Buffy 3.19.005) that proves a successful beg with a 10 turn peace treaty CAN stop an AI that just started plotting war.

Test Monty is Friendly with the only AI in the game Ragnar, so he can only plot against the player (human)
Load up the test game, press next turn, see that he starts plotting against the player (there is no other possibility), beg some gold (power ratio must be above 0.75), and the "We have enough on our hands right now" vanishes. :)
Spoiler Pictures :

Move ahead to Turn 46

  • I don't know if it only works on limited wars or total wars or both? :hmm:
  • I don't know if the war plotting (We have enough on our hands right now) can be permanently stopped this way only if the AI just started plotting, or if it can be still be halted when the AI army is on the border about to launch an attack? :hmm:
  • I don't know what percentage % success rate begging has to remove "We have enough on our hands right now" war plotting.
