the foreign relations glance screen was redundant, plain and simple. that alone is enough reason to ditch it. clicking on a leaderhead is not difficult. a screen that tells me Boudica is -6 with me means nothing, it's just a number. the other screen gives you a better visual understanding to quickly see who is friendly, cautious, etc. the hidden math underneath all these relations can be viewed just by mousing over the leaderheads on that same screen.

It's not redundant. I don't use it to see how the AIs feel about me, I use to see how they feel about each other. It's even more useful for comparisons: If an AI is +6 towards me but +8 for my rival them I have a good idea that I won't get their vote for an AP or UN election, so maybe I need to bribe them a little more.

Thanks! We're currently updating the HOF Mod for the new patch, but I'm unsure if the Glance screen will be brought back just yet. We'll have to see.

BTW, why would you not want to use the HOF Mod! :D

I loved the HOF mod for vanilla and warlords. It was very addictive to use, I really missed it if I had to run without it. But if you run it as a mod that means that you have to have it to open any game saves that you use it on, and if you are going to look or play someone's save that has been posted then you can't use it. Since I am on a Mac I was able to install the HOF mod in SpecialAssets and it would work for any game, and anyone could run my saved games. And then if I ran a WOTM it loaded the mod version.

So with BTS I have the choice of running all of my games with the HOF mod and not being able to share any interesting saves that I have, and also missing the addictive features if I run a posted save. I do miss the great features, but there is a downside to running the HOF mod.

This just means we have to persuade this rest of CFC to use the HOF mod (and one day, the world). For those who are interested, it looks like we will be putting the Glance screen back in the HOF mod, though don't quote me on that.

that glance page was the worst idea ever... a complete waste and totally confusing. why do you need it when you have a more appealing visual page with the leaderheads and mouseovers - you simply click on a leaderhead and see how everyone else feels about him. the glance page was like looking at a spreadsheet or something.

And when you have a game with a lot of civs, and you want to check attitude of one particular civ toward all others, you have to click every single other civ and hover over the particular civ to see the relations, back and forth many times? With more than 10 civs that's just plain tedious and a table format makes that information accessible in less than a couple of seconds.

And even for the situation you described, a spreadsheet still makes it easier. Mouse movements are what will kill your wrists one day (carpal tunnel syndrome anyone?) and anything that helps to minimise unnecessary mouse movements I'm in favour of.

So I completely disagree with you.

EDIT
By the way, in the Glance screen you can still hover over one of the numbers to see the relationship modifier breakdown and Friendly/Annoyed/etc. rating (IIRC), so you have all the functionality from the "web" diplo screen anyway.

QFT. But maybe LlamaCat fears spreadsheets more than wrist problems.

Sorry LlamaCat, I've bugged you enough already :). Just loopy on a Friday night here at work, unable to play the game and thus living vicariously through the forums...

I think the HoF mod would be better received if it allowed MP. :mischief:

AND incorporated Bhruic's fixes. :mischief:

:p

It's very easy to add the Glance screen back, all of the code for it still exists. They simply commented out one line to remove the tab.

edit: Sorry, forgot to mention that the file is "\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Python\Screens\CvExoticForeignAdvisor.py".

The line is:
Code:
# "GLANCE", \
at line 177. Simply remove the "#" out front and the Glance tab will be back.

Thanks Bhruic. Very useful. Pity we have to mess around with the code to repair things. It's hard to understand the mentality of 'I don't like it, so no one should have it' that appears to have led to the need to do this!

Also, in case you didn't notice, it's color-coded...so if you just see what color is up, you can immediately tell if someone's furious or pleased with a certain civ.

What program to you need to open these files?

Any text editor will work.

Edit: Cross post. I imagine there is a way to delete a post, but I didn't find it.

Was just around here to ask if it's a bug, that I can't access the glance screen anymore and found the fix. Thanks Bhruic! :goodjob:

This tip and others of the kind should definitely be gathered in one pinned thread.
I never really searched for it, but I'd like to have the autosaves being made every single turn and I bet the solution is lurking somewhere on cfc. I guess I'm not the only one who would like that.

I say yes. It is MUCH MUCH MUCH faster to learn what other leaders think of each other going on glance then on the diplo screen.

And who said it was ugly? Sure it might've not been beutiful but that doesn't make it useless. I'm suprised they took it out instead of just "renovating" it.
