Broader Alignments

Since we are at it:
"Kill one man, and you are a murderer. Kill millions of men, and you are a conqueror. Kill them all, and you are a god."
Jean Rostand, Thoughts of a Biologist (1939)
(1894 - 1977)

Basium being good really confuses me... he sounds too much like Dick Cheney.

Which means someone now needs to make the FF Leader = RL Leader Thread.
First Stab:

Barack Obama = Cardith Lorda

Hmm... Are you implying that there is a rather large dragon using Obama as a figurehead?

How else do you think an African American raised by his grandparents, with the middle name Hussein, got elected President of the US?

Alternatively, Chicago might have a Mind or Spirit Node somewhere...

Anyhow, as I've said, my views on War won't change. I'm immutable on this subject. Also, to point out something Veran said, do you think Churchill was evil, because, he was involved in WW2. :) How about FDR? Or, Harry Truman? Were they evil people because of your rather odd view of war? No, sometimes war is good. Besides, it is literally a concept, it has no soul, it has no morality, so calling war evil makes about as much sense as saying a pizza is good. :)
Q.E.D. Don't know what that means...

Am guessing that's me (don't think anyone else mentioned Churchill). The comment was meant to contradict the earlier statement that anyone declaring war is trying to gain something by force and is therefore "evil". Whilst it wasn't actually Churchill who declared war (he wasn't PM at the time), he had been pushing for the declaration since the initial acts of German aggression.

Britain's declaration of war against Nazi-Germany was just the best example I could find of a DoW that wouldn't be considered evil by most people.

Quod Erat Demonstrandum - roughly translates "so it is proven" or "that which was to be shown".

Problem is FFH2 and therefore Fall Further was based off a D&D game, and there, the alignments do have clear definitions of what is good and what is evil. Thus even though to us there might be justifications, in the game world the gods might not care.

However, at the same time, it seems to be established that good celestial deities like Junil are not at all opposed to punching the right guy in the face.

OK, you may keep whatever views you have on war, but please do not try to enforce them to the rest of us. War is never good in real life, it is an insanity.
The simulation of war is something challenging and enjoyable, a challenge for the mind.

So, back on topic, I think the FF team has the broader alignments working well enough. They can be improved, and they are improving them :)
Keep up!

Indeed, but would he not have been percieved as a better man if he were able to talk hitler out of his conquest ?

The nazi government was pretty much unambiguously evil, but the average german man conscripted into their army, most likely was not. Thousands of those still died at the hands of british and american soldiers, though. Such is the way of war. Politicians start wars, but they're rarely the ones on the frontline watching their friends die around them

Sometimes it may be necessary, especially in self defence, but war is rarely justified, and never a good thing. I contend that it is still an inherently evil act

Definitely (possibly not as famous, but better). The point is that he was not considered evil for failing to solve it diplomatically. The original argument had been that declaring war to achieve a goal was inherently evil - but in the absence of other options, it was a war worth fighting.

The war itself was an incredibly bad thing, but Churchill's alignment wouldn't have been reduced for his part in it - even as a member of a nation that declared war.

hmm the broader alignments making me .....playing as the agnostic risen emperor ..mad
how do you make the scions become evil while playing as the emperor?
edit: not mad annoyed would be a better word

Hmmm. Run Slavery, for a start. Join the Undercouncil, for two.

those give around 30 points together ....not enough evil alignment points
edit: i fixed it changed him to evil thxs....amazing what boredness can do

There are a few farmable ways of altering your alignment. The most obvious for lowering are razing cities and building dungeons.

As to raising it, there are some units, Paramanders I think, which increase it every time you make one. And infirmaries increase it too.

but in general, BA is unfinished, vehem has admitted as much. We need to work on it more. If we can stop getting distracted by shinies

*ooh, rust is overpowered. Let's fix that!*

How much effort is it to get Broader Alignments fixed? Is it a lot of grunt work, or does it require DLL editing?

I use Broader Alignments in every game I play. Wouldn't mind doing the work to expand it. What sort of stuff do you guys have in mind?

Probably grunt work.

There's almost certainly the necessary tags to make any spell/building/event/wonder/unit change your alignment. I think it's just a matter of deciding and adding the info to anything relevant. Which is a lot of things

Tons of DLL work by the time we are done probably, but mostly need to decide precisely how we want it to work. I know we want Civics and Religions to be able to give effects over time instead of a "lump effect" upon switching. Then you cannot just insta-swing at leisure. But really any DLL work is pointless till we know how we want the end product to work.
