Hikaro... thank you! That will come in very handy!

Yeah, it's sure come in handy for me.... I first made it when I made the Death Machine and Custom Sweeper (my third and fourth units), and it looked so good that I've used it or automatic gunfire in every Bryce unit of mine since (including, but not limited to the attack C animation for the Shinra Grosspanzer and Land Ironclad, the Attack animation of the Gatling gun, the gatling gun mounts on my Land Battleship, the second version of my Advanced Airship, the Brotherhood of Steel airship, the Attack B and C animations for the Tesla Tank, the attack C animation of the Ork Looted Leman Russ tank, and my current project, the Galbadian elite Soldier).

i make simple boolean gunflashes with streched spheres, similar to the poser gunflash model.

Ive been using that for my gunfire. I just change the randomness settings to make it all big fuzz.

Hmm, I looked for a Bryce download for mac, but I didn't see one. I went to the URL that you gave in the first post, but that was just for the PC. So, I searched for Bryce in "3d modelling and CAD," got three results, and all were for Windows. Do you know if Bryce for the mac is available for free?

I am fairly certain of it. There have been a number of comments on the Daz3d forums about the free version of Bryce and what OS versions it work best with. Version 5.0 is 10.3x or older as I recall. While 5.5 (20 upgrade if you get it done by the 6th and join some web site called artzone) is fine at 10.4 something or other. Problem is Apple kept changing their OS without putting in enough backward compatibilty, and Bryce 5.0 is now a few years old.

As I recall, not owning a Mac, you go to CNet and dl the file and register with Daz3d and you end up getting an account with Daz3d in it. In which they place an even better and larger version of Bryce 5.0. This should include the Mac version. Otherwise I can't imagine what all the Mac guys are talking about the free version for.
I'm not really certain about this. I got rid my my last Mac 12-13 years ago.

What file format does Bryce use? .3DS?

I can load or export to most common formats.
These include 3ds, obj, lwo (and lws), cob (and scn), and a whole much more.
But Bryce native files are .br5 These can not be loaded in any other program. With Bryce 5.0 and Bryce 5.5 you can export only imported meshes (some file in one of the other formats I listed above), rock, and terrains.
It can not export entire scenes to other 3d apps (for now), nor can it export anything which includes in whole or in part bryce 3d objects (called primitives).

Re: Exporting out of Bryce. This is something I can't seem to get a handle on. Whatever I do, the export function is always greyed out. Any thoughts or directions on how to export, step by step?

Select the MESH (no bryce booleans unless you are usinggg v6.0)
Type CTRL E and then CTRL D

next select the export format you want (it can export to any format it can import, so quite a few to choose from)

CTRL E is the same as clicking on the little E when you have a mesh or mesh group selected. It brings up SMOOTH/UNSMOOTH etc.
When you see that, just ctrl + d to export.

The link doesn't work anymore...bummer.

go to the site and search for Bryce
The 5.0 version was pulled, but the v 5.5 is free instead.

Also they have Daz Studio for free too, it is similar to poser (though I prefer Poser).

bryce is the best all around tool for hard surface units (tanks, planes, etc), poser is the best all around for humans and squishy stuff,

but, any program capable of generating a series of bitmaps can be used. Some of the best unit creators do not use Poser or bryce.

Ok. Thanks man. Very nice members here at civfanatics. For a mod I was hoping to make (set in battlefield 2142 era) I was hoping to make some tanks and infantry so I'll check that out.

Awesome Bjornlo! Maybe we'll see an influx of more units in the near future! :goodjob:

I wonder what the chances are of Poser offering their software for free? :crazyeye:
