[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

I have something pretty cool to report. It is going to help out my Phoenician and Assyrian modules in the future. Bakuel has made me some "Semetic" units that I can use to make other units, and it doesn't look like he's uploaded them so this is going to be exclusive to the Diplomacy 2 mod.

He made them so I would be able to mix and match a lot of these units' heads and bodies in order to make a cool flavored set for both civs. Here's a little screenshot he provided for me...

Very nice.

As I mentioned I am not looking only into history when making city names. I prefer only cities that actually stayed part of the civ. I do this also to avoid conflicts and to avoid city name repeats. I am not going to change my Hungarian list (although I am tempted to add these cities sometimes), so you should ask The Capo if he wants these cities.

I'm sure not everyone share my opinion on this, but these cities are in a kinda special situation. There are many similar examples in history, but still. Noone can convince me that the cities i mentioned before belong more to Romania or Slovakia rather than Hungary (i mean in a game like civilization). In my eye those cities have nothing to do with the romanian or slovakian city lists.

As of Trianon:
Yes, there were regions where not the hungarians were the majority, but in many areas, and mostly in the historical cities over 80% of the population was hungarian in the early 20th century. Many of them were hungarian cultural and economic centers for over 900 years.
And i did not want you to include all the big hungarian cities which was taken from us, that wouldn't be correct either. Just the most important ones from the hungarian dominated/populated regions. U have to admit there is some right in that...

On the other hand, it is a nice goal to try not to use the same cities for different civs, but unfortunatly u can't do that in some cases.
So I mostly disagree, but of course it is your decision.

Anyway, we are making a new city list with cool3a2, if someone want to use that it will be in Anima Croatorum's and cool3a2's Magyar mod...

The decision is not mine, but The Capo's. It is his mod after all, so you should ask him if he want these cities in the Hungarian list. I agree these cities can be in the Hungarian list as well as in the Romanian, especially because they have Hungarian names too, so it can help like in the case of Rome and Italy, England, France and Spain, for example. Also, Dhaka and Lahore are in the Indian city list and Asmara is in the Ethiopian city list, so there is no reason why these cities can't be in Hungary's list. I am just really tired of redoing all those city list again and again, so I'm not sure I want to change my current list, but the Capo might be interested.

There will be plenty of time to decide upon that when I get to it, I don't know what to do either way at this point.

I do hope you won't lose the stuff I uploaded so far. There are a few lists I still need to make for you, so expect them soon on this thread.

LOL, thanks for the concern but I have learned my lesson. I didn't lose them before, I just didn't download them because I didn't need them at the time. I didn't realize how difficult tracking this stuff down would prove to be, but this time I have DLed everything and its stored away where I won't forget it.

Since I am adding a Canaanite Religion (for Carthage) to the mod I decided that I should throw in Phoenicia to the original since it looks like its going to be a wait for a few unit sets anyway. Now this one I am not waiting for, since I am trying to learn how to make units I decided to revisit my Phoenician unit set and try to fix that up. What this also means, BTW, is that a new civ will be available in Module Pack I, we'll find out in due time who I decide that will be.

Anyway, it is exceedingly difficult to find any images or descriptions of what a Phoenician soldier may have looked like. So the purpose of this post is two-fold; (1) what do you think of this Phoenician swordsman I threw together? and (2) if you can locate anything that would be helpful to me please let me know.

The HELMET on this model is generally historically accurate, I know this because it was designed based on Phoenician pottery. Bakuel made the head. I threw together the body. What do you guys think?

Actually, I just came accross an image of people who are supposed to be dressed up like Phoenician soldiers, and I wasn't that far off!

The model and texture looks pretty good, I'd say. You're right, there's precious little good examples of Phoenician arms and armor available.

I would say to make the peak of the helmet more curved, like the nose of Gonzo from the Muppets, to give a crude example, but it might end up looking like a Phrygian Greek helmet.

Yeah, it would, I've tried it. And this helmet Bakuel made for me (and he didn't have to do it, it wasn't part of a unit set or anything so I think I'll use it) and it was based on some Phoenician art/pottery/something that we came accross, so I am probably going to stick with it. Not to mention the helmets those "re-enactors" are wearing don't curve at the top. So I think I'm going to leave that part as it is, the big problem is getting the uniforms to be accurate, if that is even possible.

The REASON I am putting as much effort into this (besides the fact that I've always thought the Phoenicians should have been a civ, but that damned Carthage took their spot!!!) is because I am adding a bunch of ancient near-eastern civs in the Deluxe edition and I have to make them look unique.

Capo, did you (or anybody else) already make Assyrian units?

Hey, the Hittites are looking good! I'm eagerly anticipating whatever ancient near-eastern stuff you release, one of my favorite time periods in history.

Same.
Always glad to hear we'll be getting more Mediterranean/Mesopotamian ancient stuff, far east asian, or middle eastern stuff.

Big Hittite fan here, also. I think I've seen a Hittite leaderhead in a mod I played once, but it had major crazy-eyes. I got used to it, however.

I did make some, but I am redoing them. So the Deluxe edition will definitely have the Phoenicians, Assyrians, and Hittites. I am not sure if any of these will make it into the regular version though, I am considering adding the Phoenicians but I haven't decided yet, there's still a lot of work to be done so I don't want to add more prematurely.
