[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

:D I have Civ installed again and upgraded to 3.19.

Fantastic, I'll cut you in on the next playtest then. :goodjob:

I am still waiting to get BUG in. While I'm waiting on that I'll get Salamasina and Kamehameha shadered and ready to go (if I can), if I still have time I'll make Lalibela. Basically what I'm doing now is as much as possible before BUG is merged. Either way, once BUG is in I will send out the playtest. I'll probably be sending out a PM to each playtester to explain this a bit further. So if you don't get a PM about it within the next 24 hours (so don't bug me, no pun intended, before then), and you signed up to playtest, feel free to post here or PM me about it. Thanks to everyone, and thank you for your patience. And in the meantime cyberxkhan and EC, keep those personalities coming. :goodjob:

Alright, more Leader-stuff.

First off is Dido/Theodora (I don't have Dido in WoL, so I'll also be using it as Theodora). I based her first off Willem of Oranje. The money thing and the Dutch navy thing, mainly. Then I also added aspects of Bismarck (Dido had to have some level of political competency to make her way to and ensure the survival of Carthage) as well as Washington (similar to above, I guess... I think).

Second is Sundiata Keita. I based him first off Cyrus (Cyrus also was a founder of an Empire, legends surrounding his rule, defeating major power in region, blah blah blah), and added aspects of Augustus (also founder of Empire, etc. etc. etc.) as well as Willem (ka-ching!).

Third is Richelieu. I first based him off Bismarck (both were statesmen who consolidated power for their kingdoms, and both did all this manipulation and politics crap - very similar in some ways). I also added aspects of Qin Shi Huang (also a good manipulator and politician, I guess), as well as Justinian (similar reason, though now I kind of forgot why I included him in the first place).

Enjoy, as always.

Quick thing here - I remembered a while back somewhere you said you had made some new missionaries for some of the religions in JARM, the Zoroastarian one I remember in particular. Would you mind releasing them in the far future? I may have, er, "use" for them (and I could then make inquisitor versions). :mwaha:

Anyhow, I'll post some more personalities up tonight, and I'll also by tonight get up some more Polynesian music you can try out as you requested in my diplomusic thread.

:D

Sorry that this playtest is taking so long to get out. I think I said it would be finished by the start of last week, and look where we are! Not good Capo...

Anyway, I basically wound up on a drinking bender the past two nights, so that's why I didn't get anything done. I'm going to try and get a lot finished on Lalibela though, but it is going to be a complicated leader, so it may take me a few days. Then I just have to fix up a couple things on Franco and I'll, once again, try to get BUG merged in. Ripple01 explained a better method and I'll try that out before giving up and begging him to do it for me.

Anyway sorry about that guys, the playtest is still coming, don't worry. :goodjob:

Thanks man! :goodjob:

The Zoroastrian missionary should be in the playtest of the mods so you could just get it from there.

Hey Capo!
Tonight I read after the Songhai and Mali Empires, and their leaders.

I have a question: Are you sure you don't want to include a separate Songhai Empire?
I think they deserve their place, even if Mali is already there...
Furthermore, I think that adding Sunni Ali and Askia for Mali are not a good idea, they should definitely be Songhai emperors.

If I were you (and had your LH making abilities), I would make a new Sundiata Keita LH for Mali, and then both civs would have 2-2 pretty awesome leaders :)
And if u don't have time to make a new LH (at least now), u can still use the black Justinian based LH as Sundiata (Amra's old Askia), thats a pretty good LH too...

Well, his was actually discussed and debated a while back. I was actually in agreement with you; that Songhai should have their own civ with Askia and Sunni Ali Ber as the leaders. It was determined though, after a relatively lengthly discussion that there was so much overlap between the Mali and Songhai (cities, time-period, culture) that it would be best just to lump them together into one civ.

I wanted to keep the Songhai as a different civ myself, but I did ultimately decide to go with a Mali civ that has four leaders and enompasses both the Songhai and Malinese. I suppose I could always change my mind pretty easily, but for now the Songhai and Mali have already been lumped together. And I am adding Sunni Ali Ber to the Malinese in Diplomacy II.

Having said all of that; the Songhai was one of my favorite modular civs to play as in the old mod.

The Capo, you may have known this already about the Mali/Songhai thing, and it may have already been discussed, but I'd bring it up - both main ethnicity of the Mali and Songhai Empires were the "Mande" peoples (wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandé_peoples). The Mande also were the ones that founded the earlier Ghana, too. Therefore, my idea is, why not make them a "Mande" civ? I think CivGold had something like this, too.

Just an idea.

Oh, and if you haven't seen it already, I've posted up new Kamehamehamehamehameha music.

Yeah, I was here and remember that whole discussion.
Actually I made my previous post after I read it again.

Similar culture and time period: obviously.
Some of the cities are the same: true.
But thats all are because at first the Songhai was the vassal state of Mali, and then a few hundred years later it was the other way around.
They were much closer to enemies than allies AFAIK.

I'm just thinking, if 2 European nations, just for example France and Germany (and I'm sure there are better examples) would have had even more wars, much more territory changing, thus more cities which could go for both nations, than there were room for only one of them?

Most importantly, the Songhai is a very cool civ with 2 awesome leaders, I would love to see them in the mod...

Yeah, Mande were the people there. But there were no Mande Empire, so I would still prefer to have Mali and Songhai, both great empires from that era and region.

Btw, Civ Gold have Mali AND Mande civs, which is the worst solution IMO

Well, I'll just say this about the Mali/Soghai/Mande issue; it is an easy thing to change so I can wait until the last minute to do so. Either way I wouldn't make the change until the end anyway (it merely requires me to remove a leader at this point).

I think the BIGGEST problem people had with it, IIRC, was that they practically had the same city-list (which is partially Firaxis' fault for including Songhai cities with the Mali) and that they wanted the Malinese to have more than two leaders in my mod. So it is basically a choice between either underrepresenting Africa (as far as leaders go) or misrepresenting Africa (as far as combining to civs that should probably not be combined). So that's the issue currently. Personally, I don't care THAT MUCH either way, but I do like the Songhai and thought they should have been in the regular game rather than the Malinese anyway (I think more people know about Mansa Musa though).

The leaders are the same 4, either way, so they wouldn't underrepresent Africa that way :)
Btw, changing the original civs citylist is more difficult than changing them for new civs? Because if not, you can always do that too.
And the Songhai would be awesome to play with, I like that civ much better then the Malinese Empire.

Alright, I made my point, and don't want to push this any further, just wanted you to think this over again.
My last suggestion is to rename the Mali to Mande if you go the one civ direction and add Sunni Ali and Askia for them...

More leaderhead personalities, same deal and spqbeal:

First off is Harald Hardrada. I based him first off Willem, mainly for the Viking trade stuff. To generally remove most of Willem's more "peaceful" tendencies, I then added aspects of Brennus and Shaka.

Second is Ptolemy Soter. I based him off Louis XIV. Both ruled Empires that were cultural and scientific centers of the known world, and both were great builders. I then added aspects of Suryvarman (great builder, expansionist empire) as well as Darius (money and ruling the Empire thing).

Third is Sunni Ali. I based him off Napoleon (conqueror syndrome). I also added aspects of Stalin (Sunni Ali was pretty harsh on Muslim scholars), as well as Daius (money, mainly).

Enjoy, as always. More coming soon, as always. :mischief:

Success!!!

I finally got that damned BUG merged into the mod. Now I'm going to put in the remainder of the AI pesonalities and I am going to wrap it up and send it out to everyone. Thanks for your patience everyone!

@ Madman; I noticed that the Polynesian and Persian main colors are pretty similar I was wondering if you could make a variation on it for me. Could you make the Pink 255, 110, 246 and the Green 88, 255, 155 for me on the button? Or could you make that and maybe one or two variant color schemes just in case you think there is a better combo?

@ cybrxkhan; if you have or plan on doing anymore LH personalities today, now would be a good time to post them because I'm sending out the playtest tonight.

Congrats on finishing the @#$% thing. I'm still stuck playing around with the Inquisition for WoL

Anyhow, here's five more personalities. You know the drill...

First is Sargon. I based him off Genghis Khan. Conquest. Empire. End of story. However, to tamper down Genghis Khan's war-happiness (though for Sargon, founding one of the first true Empires in the world must be something...), I added aspects of Ramses (military, yes (even though he was bad); but also the ancient monarch and the monument building that the Mesopotamians loved too), as well as Pacal (building).

Second is Xerxes/Khosrau. I based him off Hannibal (Hannibal also attempted to take down somebody... but in the very end he had to retreat (well, I know the correlation isn't 100%, but I wanted someone based off Hannibal for a change, rather than one of the other military leaders)). I also added aspects of Louis XIV (Persian culture), as well as Mehmed (Ottoman culture, and also expansionist policies).

Third is Logan. I based him off Asoka (he wasn't an outright "pacifist", of course, but he didn't go around killing people like crazy either). To give him a bit more of a war-capable edge, I added aspects of Montezuma and Shaka.

Fourth is Basil II. I based him off Bismarck. Byzantine court intrigue would have been Bismark's playground - you get the idea (though to be honest the stereotype of the messy Byzantine courts with all the intrigue and plotting is a bit, well, stereotypical as all courts had it to some degree anyhow, it was just that the Byzantines had a @#$%ing complicated Bureaucracy while the Europeans were just starting feudalism). I then added aspects of Saladin (leader who religion is also important, and also brought a good degree of power back to his group or whatever), as well as Napoleon (Basil II was a military man).

The fifth one will be Hiawatha/Pocahontas, but I want to make this one more unique (i.e. someone to rival Gandhi :mischief:), so give me a bit more time on that one, I'll post it in an hour or something.

Enjoy, as always. And I'll try to get more personalities even after you release your playtest. :goodjob:

Alright, once you get done with Hiawatha I'll add the new personalities and zip it up and ship it out. Hopefully Madman is able to create some new buttons/colors for the Polynesians (although I somehow doubt he will finish it that quickly), if he does I'll put that in the playtest too.

I'm pretty excited, but nervous about this playtest for a couple reasons. The first is that I haven't had much time to actually play the game, so I don't know how the new AI Personalities will work. That is no reflection on either cybrxkhan or EdgeCrusher, just the facts. While I am a bit dubious about that, I am also pretty excited to see these new leaders, with completely new personalities, in action. The second thing I'm a bit concerned over is how well I merged BUG into the mod; I am certainly no coder, so I don't have complete trust in my abilities. The (very) short test I did after getting it right seemed good, but hopefully the playtesters will give me a good report on how well the BUG merge went.

So yeah, with the new personalities in I'll send it out. Last time it took around three hours to upload (using dropbox), so depending on whenever cybrxkhan posts his new personalities I'd expect it to be posted four to five hours (probably closer to four) after that. The extra time is just in case something goes awry.
