[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

I'm basically using Zerver's Thai set for Siam. Which includes an elephant unit that basically looks like the ones you have provided. I am going to do a few minor texture edits but from what I can tell it looks pretty spot-on. The Assyrian units may give me some trouble, apparently there is more than a simple head issue so that set may take a while. While I am waiting for that to get resolved I'll work on the other packs though, I might have a preview for Siam sometime tonight or tomorrow.
 
This is kind of out of the blue but I've kind of been looking around for what I am going to use for my mod's units. I have also been thinking about amending some of the normal UUs to be more historically accurate, so the Immortal is one of the first to be edited. I'd rather have a non-mounted Immortal, and Bakuel has made two possible versions, they are pretty similar but one is black and pink and the other is blue and yellow. I like the blue and yellow one a bit more, but the black and pink/red or whatever might match the flag better, although it might look a little more colorful/exotic with the non-matching unit. Its entirely up to you guys though, becuase I could care less. Also which unit should it replace? I was thinking of having the Immortal replace the swordsman (I think it would be lame if it replaced the spearman for some reason). Anyway here are the two models in case you haven't seen them.

BTW; Siam preview will probably be out in a few days, I have to work on a couple of units for it.

I'd have them be light footman, and I prefer the one on the right. The color sceme is a bit more Persian.
 
Another thing to consider would be EdgeCrusher's Unique National Wonders which basicaly act as replacements for National Wonders (just like UBs). He has a great list and I've made some suggestions. The only thing that may suck about adding this would be that it would be a HUGE undertaking for the Deluxe Edition (which will add 30+ civilizations to the regular game). But I think this would add more flavor to the mod. The other thing to consider would be this; should they have the EXACT same benefits as the regular National Wonders (so just the graphic and name changes) or should they make vast changes (i.e. have an extra capability to them) or just minor ones (like slightly increased versions of the NW they replace, or maybe an extra GP bonus).

I'd be up for this, slightly improved. I'd been thinking about something like this for awhile.
I'd imagine this would be easier to brainstorm than it is to brainstorm UBs.
 
I like the Unique National Wonders idea, but it seems that the current build isn't really all that diversified. In the normal game, there aren't a lot (maybe not any) UUs or UBs that are duplicates. The current UNW mod has several Hermitage replacers and possibly other redundancies. I don't really mind doubling up, but I'd suggest that you make sure that every normal NW has a U attached to it before doing so.
 
I know this is quick, but I think I'm going to ditch the UNW idea. Firstly Vrenir is right in that many of the UNW are duplicates and while I am not as bothered by that prospect as he seems to be it is a negative aspect of it. Combine that with the fact that I am adding over thirty new civs to the Deluxe edition and I basically have enough reasons NOT to implement it. Sorry if I got anybody's hopes up. No UNWs.

Some suggestions I've put together:

-Make Manhattan Project worth making
-Give the Khmer, Carthagians, Celtic (I mean come on, their UB makes the unique unit no different than the normal unit), Danish, French, Greeks (Well, their UU is pretty good as it is. I'd just like to see it renamed, and maybe instead of getting +100% vs chariots, it should get 50 against archers and chariots)
-Make it so castles don't become obsolete till a later tech, or make it so they become available earlier.
-Give the French a better UB.
-Change around traits to be more realistic. Firaxis gave some leaders odd trait combos due to their rule of no doubling up. Since we don't have that rule, we can go for realism instead.

Also, some trait suggestions:

-Productive: +1 hammer on tiles with at least 2 hammers.
-Agricultural: +1 food on tiles with at least 2 food.
-Secretive: +4 espionage per city, faster production of Security Beaureu and Intelligence Agency
-Seafaring: All naval units start with Seafaring 2, faster production of Lighthouse, Harbor, and Drydock

It'd be kinda neat playing as a leader known for having a great navy and getting the bonuses that make your navy just as great. I guess they gave those leaders Financial instead because Fin means you'll be building along the coast.

And my suggestions to improve the earlier mentioned UUs:

-Khmer: Maybe increase its strength by 1? Or give it a bonus against other mounted units.
-Carthage: Give it a city attack bonus.
-Celtic: Replace Guerilla 1 with Guerilla 2 or City Raider 1.
-Danish: Maybe give it Flanking 1 as well.
-France: I'd suggest maybe giving them Pinch. For their UB, I'd suggest just going with an entirely new UB. I'll try to think of a better building to represent France. I don't think I've ever seen so much hate for a UB, though. I guess because artist's aren't very useful, but the building it replaces is, so you're kinda stuck with an artist.
-Greece: Like I said, maybe changing +100% vs chariots to +50% vs archers and chariots. ...and please rename them. I'm not sure what Firaxis was thinking.

And of course changing the Immortal to either a light footman or a footman instead of a chariot.

Edit: Thought of a couple of ideas for a replacement French UB. Either a Chateau that replaces the Castle and serves as a culture booster in exchange for removing the espionage boost but lasts for longer than a normal castle, or a Bistro that replaces the grocer and offers either a happiness or culture booster.

Hiya Capo. I'm in agreement with the previous poster about Castles coming too late. Is there any way you can think of what earlier tech it could be moved to such that it doesn't unbalance the game? I know in my mod I moved Wineries from Monarchy to Pottery, then moved castles to Monarchy-it just seemed to make more sense, but you might disagree.

That actually sounds like a good idea, wine vineyards with monarchy makes no sense at all considering how old wine is. I am going to have to write this stuff down and figure out how it is all going to work out so its balanced.

Apparently there is some displeasure in the leaderhead request thread over the lack of leaderhead makers, and thus the fact that I am busy on this project. They'll just have to suck it up though. I am making new LHs for the mod anyway so that should appease them.

@ dF, there was a portion of your post that I did not understand...

I don't quite understand what you mean here. Could you please clarify this a little bit. I will also say I am pretty adverse to changing the UUs and UBs as much as you seem to want me to. The reason is not really because I disagree with you, but because I don't want to alter the game too much. The fact that I am changing the Legionary (Praetorian), the Immortal and probably the Samurai is already kind of bothering me so I don't think I want to go beyond that too much. I might add pinch to the Musketeers and maybe take a few of your suggestions. But I don't know if I want to change as much as you want me to. I still want to keep this game as close to the regular version as possible while still offering some new features.
 
Crap, I erased part of that.
I was suggesting they get new UUs.

The way the game is balanced, it feels like those civs got the short end of the stick.
Especially the Khmer. Their base-game leader has rather hard to play traits, his UB is average, and his UU seems fairly worthless.

Celtia too. Their UU's special bonus? Guerilla 1.
Their UB's special bonus? Everyone gets Guerilla 1.

Most of those are just minor complaints... the only ones that really bug me are France, the Khmer, and the Celts.

I can understand if you don't want to change them, though.

I'd accidentally erased the "improved UU stats" portion because at the end I also had Arabia, but then I remembered how powerful Arabia's UB is and decided against it.
 
I am not entirely against editing the UUs because military tactics can change and you should be able to adapt to different situations. Its the UBs I am the most hesitant about changing. I know you think China's UB is pretty powerful (especially with the financial Tang Taizong) but I'm still on the fence about changing too much of the base game. A lot of UUs are going to be revamped though, whether it is their abilities or their graphics. The Immortal, Legion and Samurai are probably going to be the biggest changes, graphcially the Gallic Warrior, Cho-Ko-Nu, and Dog Soldier are going to get a makeover (so far).
 
My newest symbols are for Iran (Lion and Sun), Italy (Tower of Pisa), and Switzeland (Matterhorn). I may add a llama but I don't know whether I should do for the Incas or for Gran Colombia.

I think a Llama is more appropriate for the Inca than Gran Colombia honestly. You could always do both.

I am working on Siam and I hope to have a preview out tomorrow. No word back on those Assyrian units. I hope I don't have to start over. :sad:
 
I asked because I had lots of symbols for the Inca and none for Gran Colombia.

For the Koreans, I added a North Korean symbol.
 
Actually, the thing I wanted changed about the Chinese UB isn't in the base game. Unless you meant the current version of Diplomacy. You gave it a trade route bonus, originally it only had the culture % boost.

The only UB, besides that, that really bugs me is France's. The free artist it gives you is pointless unless you're going for a cultural victory, and if you are then chances are you won't be needing it anyway.

I hadn't realized the Chinese UB had changed, I used other modules for my mod without changing them so that must be part of their code rather than mine since I had no idea the Chinese UB had been altered. Since I'm doing everything from scratch that problem shouldn't exist anymore.
