[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

Capo, what do you think? Should we adopt this as Casimir? People were complaining he doesn't look big, I think this backgroud makes him bigger.

I don't know about Casimir. The face is just not right. He had a bigger/wider face that Charlemagne just doesn't work with (also why Brennus' face works well). I had to study his life for a whole month in school. That is not Casimir. =\

Besides, to be frank, Casimir wasn't all that great. He was just blessed to be ruling during Poland's first golden age, and that is mostly because Poland was the only country in Europe to not be seriously effected by the Black Death, which crippled everyone else Casimir had to face during his reign.

I think that a much better option would be Pilsudski or Mieszko. Dabrowski would be an excellent choice to. One of the Wladyslaw's were a great ruler as well.

Firstly, and I feel the need to say this, Jesus H. Christ TLO! You racked up 9,000+ posts in under two years! That's amazing! Mine is around a third of yours and I've been a member since 2001 (technically the 511th member apparently). Having said that I have to say a couple of things; firstly I like Casimir as a leader for Poland. Mainly because he represents an earlier period, and I prefer to have my leaders cover a range of eras if I can. In my original Poland mod I had Casimir and Walesa. Secondly I don't think simply saying "well Poland didn't suffer as much of the black death so that isn't amazing or notable" is sufficient, don't you think that in and of itself is an accomplishment? Its not like they didn't know what was happening, or didn't make any effort to prevent it! And you can say all they did was pray and blah blah blah, but anyone who has read the history of the plagues knows that is not even remotely accurate. These Kings knew they weren't anything better than anyone else, at least in a physical sense, and realized that there were ACTUAL REMEDIES they could employ. So I wouldn't just write his reign off based simply on an ACCOMPLISHMENT! I mean the leader should ultimately get the credit for whatever happens, it isn't like Bill Clinton, who presided over one of the greatest growths of the US economy really had anything to do with it other than being President! Hardly any of his policies passed because his congress was part of the opposition, but he is mostly remembered here for his economic propserity.

As an LH-maker (and sorry to throw my weight around, but I did gain it honestly) I would say that (1) the face and hair DOES look like Casimir's, in fact even in the picture you showed me it does, and (2) it is easy to make an LH look bigger, look what I did with Dusan! If we just made his eyes brown and his skin lighter, moved the camera in a bit more and moved the LH down you'd be singing a different tune. Believe me.

Finally, why'd you guys bump out my preview posts man!?!? I was going to put up Indian and Sioux previews in those posts and now its stupid because they are on an old page! Damn it! (JK)

Its like saying Augustus or Trajan or Vespasian were blessed to rule under Rome's golden age. Lest we forget part of being a ruler is "not . .. .. .. .ing up," no?

Not "technically", actually. Still, thats quite an accomplishment. I've been a member almost a year (interestingly, I apparently joined CFC on my birthday), and have over 2000 posts. Still, have you seen TMIT? A member for a year and a half, and well over 10,000 posts.

Well, to be honest I actually spent more time at Apolyton as a multi-player before coming over to CFC regularly and eventually becoming a modder. I stopped going to Apolyton because I was screwed over by the host (and now owner of Apolyton CyberShy/Robert Plomp) in a Diplogame. Which explains my low level of posts. I think before I started coming to CFC regularly I had around fifty posts or so, so most of my posts were done in the last year, give or take.

In fact I'm still so angry with him that I haven't even checked what my old buddies at Apolyton are up to now... sad...

mechaerik posted this in the unit request thread, and honestly its too awesome not to use in this mod. Look at these Zulu horsearchers!!!

I MIGHT use two of these and the Zulu horseman I have with a Zebra skin on the Horse, but I don't know, I might have to throw three of these bad boys in there. Its pretty cool and unique, although completely ridiculous. What do you guys think?

I'd go for full zebra instead, but... wow. Those are neat.

Meh. OT and getting into fights about Poland's inclusion in BtS made my post count jump. I don't even notice it or believe it is true anymore, I just don't realize that I post alot during the day. :crazyeye:

How is the black death an accomplishment? I mean, I think Poland was more lucky than anything. We were the strongest in Europe for that period because everyone else in Europe was coughing out blood. As for internal matters, he was an average ruler. Just like Trajan was, just blessed that he was ruling a country that was having a golden age/peak.

As for Clinton, isn't he regarded as one of the worst US presidents in history?

As for someone who represents the time period, how about a Polish Hero? Someone who turned Poland into a state, took over all the Polish citystates of the last 1000 years and turned it into 1 Polish unified state? Someone who converted the Poles to christanity and defended both militarially and diplomatically the young country against eager Germanic states ready to expand to the east? Mieszko the First!

Also, Pilsudski is a much better choice than Lech Walesa from the Modern time period.

I didn't say it was an accomplishment, I said avoiding it was an accomplishment.

Sometimes keeping something together or running smoothly during a period where everyone else around you can't is an accomplishment. If Poland declined during this period you'd probably say it was the black death and no ruler in Europe was successful during that period. I'm not saying he was the greatest leader in Polish history, but I don't think he is any worse a candidate than most other Firaxis leaders. Sitting Bull is an awful choice if you ask me. That's like putting Cleopatra in there. Their nations collapsed under their reigns

As for Clinton, isn't he regarded as one of the worst US presidents in history?

Certainly not. I think you are thinking of George W. Bush, and if you aren't you're just plain wrong... unless you get your news from Republicans, then that would be a different story.

Casimir is easy and I don't have to make an LH, and as soon as Ekmek makes Pilsudski he'll be in over Walesa.

As for Clinton, isn't he regarded as one of the worst US presidents in history?
No, he is not- read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_United_States_Presidents. He is usually among the best 20 or so (out of 42, but still...), according to these polls. I can tell, from an international point of view, Clinton is very popular, a complete opposite to the hated Bush.
Also, Pilsudski is a much better choice than Lech Walesa from the Modern time period.
Well, you know what the problem is- we have a Walesa LH, but don't have a Pilsudski LH (yet).

How 'bout the horse archers have giraffes, and the knights have zebras? Sounds fair.

I don't know about the giraffes... Doesn't it look ridiculous?!

I agree it's really unhistorical, but it looks awesome.

Even the zebras are unhistorical. Zebras were never domesticated because they bite.

The black death missed Poland completely, for reasons unknown to me.

Well its your mod, and your free to do anything with it. I will be downloading your mod regardless and will probably just edit the leaderheads (or delete, you are including a couple civs that I would never include. I like to keep things basic.)

Well its fine if you want to edit it, I have no problem with that. And yes I am including some civs that people might not like, but I don't think its too much really. The Native Americans are being replaced with the Sioux and Iroquois, which I think is much better especially since those civs were part of old civ games (Civ2 and Civ3), I am replacing the HRE with the Franks which I feel makes more sense because Germany basically covers this during the ancient and medieval eras unless you include the Franks which will be getting a new UU and taking Charlemagne as its leader. The only other civs being added are Israel and Polynesia and I don't really think those two are so ridiculous that they should be deleted, but like I said its up to the user to customize his own mod.

And of course as Igor mentioned there is no Pilsudksi LH at this point, and there certainly is not a Mieszko LH either, so that is basically why I have decided to forgoe those leaders for now. If they come about perhaps I'll change the leaders, but for now they do not.

As far as the giraffes go; I will package extra units to replace the Horseman, Knight, and Chariot (the ones that will use the zebras and giraffes) in case you don't like them, I just think they look cool and there really isn't any harm in including them. My mod is a nice mix of historical units (Byzantines, Franks etc.) and what-if units (modern Babylonian and Roman troops, American Medieval units) so I don't think it is that bad for my mod to include these. Besides they are fun, and isn't that ultimately the point of the game?

I see you changed the Sioux flag to the Ogdala flag.

Of course. I'm just saying. Did you like it better than the white buffalo I made?
