[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

I think I'll add the Zulus next once I get this zebra-giraffe thing sorted out. Which actually finishes the African civs (Carthage, Egypt, Ethiopia and Mali have all been flavored), although I am still thinking of adding the Nubians to the regular or light version of my mod but I probably will not. Once that is done I'll do a preview of Sioux, Zulu and Indian civs. Germany will be next as I only have a couple more units to finish for them. I'm almost finished with the military flavoring. I still have to do a few GPs and Settlers but after that all I have to do is put in the ethnic cities and then the first playtest will be ready. I'm thinking I'll have four of you playtest it (with assigned civs BTW) to make sure all of the units work etc. Then I'll do the final edit on the flavoring (of course I could make alterations before the release in case any new material comes out). So it shouldn't be too long until that is ready. The rest of the mod shouldn't take too long to finish as I have a pretty good idea as to what modcomps will be included, but again everything with this is fluid and can change at any time.

Of course. I'm just saying. Did you like it better than the white buffalo I made?

I wouldn't say I necessarily liked it better, I just figured if I put out previews with new flags it would be a bit more eye-catching as far as drawing interest goes. And of course I'll be adding all of the flags so people can alter the mod as they see fit.

Well its fine if you want to edit it, I have no problem with that. And yes I am including some civs that people might not like, but I don't think its too much really. The Native Americans are being replaced with the Sioux and Iroquois, which I think is much better especially since those civs were part of old civ games (Civ2 and Civ3), I am replacing the HRE with the Franks which I feel makes more sense because Germany basically covers this during the ancient and medieval eras unless you include the Franks which will be getting a new UU and taking Charlemagne as its leader. The only other civs being added are Israel and Polynesia and I don't really think those two are so ridiculous that they should be deleted, but like I said its up to the user to customize his own mod.

I was under the impression you were adding more civs like the Aboriginals and stuff. Your inclusion of civ's is fine.

No Austria? ;)

There is an Austria, in one of the European modules. The leaders are Metternich, Franz Josef, and Charles V (already in mod).

The Aboriginies are actually not even going to be in the Deluxe version of the mod, although there will be a module that includes them. Basically the first mod (also known as the "light" mod or "regular version") is going to have the civs I have mentioned. The deluxe edition is going to add around thirty plus civs, that is the one you probably will not like, but it doesn't matter because all of the civs will be available in modular format and easy to plug in and remove as you please for the original. The deluxe will just have diplomacy text and new music, and probably a few more citystyles.

I think the next module pack should be the natives pack, though.

Yeah I'll probably do a native pack after the Deluxe Edition of the mod is finished.

I seem to be running into a CTD issue. I'm not sure what is causing it, which is extremely frustrating. So I'm going to have to spend on some playtesting until I get rid of it. Wish me luck!

Another thing I thought of. I am using NextWar as a base for this, which means I get their clone unit. And I always thought they looked stupid. They look like Nazis really and it doesn't make sense considering the time period they would be made in. So I'm trying to figure out a better clone unit. Any ideas?

I wanted to use THESE UNITS as the Celtic marines, but I think that it would be a little too over the top. What do you think of them as Clones though?

They're kinda nice as clones, though I'd prefer something that is more heavily armored. When I think of a military branch of clones, I think of the clone troopers from Star Wars, or the space marines that pretty much everything has these days (thank you, Heinlein.)

I think I'll use these as the Clones after all. I think they are armored just enough, plus I like the idea that they are masked. Plus I just think the unit looks cool in general. I still haven't found the source of the random CTDs, but it has to be something unit-related (since that is all I have done so far) so it shouldn't be too difficult to fix.

Now that I am going to use the Giraffe Archer for the Zulus (even though it is a bit ridiculous) I am hoping Achilleszero finds/makes that Zebra skin for the horses. I just think its a little fun difference for the Zulus, I am well aware of the inaccuracy of it all though so don't bother lecturing me on it.

It's a pure what-if unit, nothing wrong with that. I've never heard much of mounted zulu, so in this case you have to -create- one that didn't exist.

Which particular civs have their own custom fleets? I'm thinking, had they been more coastal, the Germans and Russians would have had their own galleons, don't you think? (You know, powerful civs that have a knack for taking over the world).

Makes me think, has anyone made Asian Galleons?

Yes. In fact I'm playing with them now (as the Chinese), and they look great. Now, in the link The Capo posted earlier (about his ships problem) you can find also Russian and German ships.

You know what would be really cool? Israeli galleons! Before the Jews go off to space like Mel Brooks predicted, why don't have them sail the oceans to take over the world?

Every civ wll use custom ships with the exception of maybe one or two that may use the original models, but I'm quite sure there are no civs that would qualify for that. I have a few Generic sets (Meso-American, Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern, European, East-Asian) and even among those certain civs have their own ships or at least one or more versions of ships that they have themselves (Greece, England, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Russia, Vikings, Celts, Romans, and I think a few more have specifically unique ships).

This mod is going to be extremely flavored, I doubt any of the original art will ever show up in this mod at all. It's all flavored and customized. In fact I have flavored a few more civs and have actually gone back and touched up a few of the older ones. I'm trying to get the flavoring part finished so I can send out the first playtest. I really think that this part of the mod will take up the most time, but I am nearly finished and I hope to knock out two more flavored sets today if I can. I'm still waiting on the Zulu zebra units for that civ, but I think I might flavor the Khmer and the Vikings today.

I just noticed THIS MODCOMP which will be pretty cool with this mod considering all of the custom flags madman has made. I just have to figure out the intricacies. As it stands now it looks like I will only be able to have the regular flag and one alternate (three would be much better, for most civs there are three flags), but at least it is a cool option that I think a lot of people would appreciate.

If that happens, I'll make some leader-specific flags. (I already have them for Stalin, Hitler, Kim Jong-il, and the Trungs).

That's cool if you want to do that, but I don't think it necessarily works that way right now. It looks like the player toggles them beforehand (I suppose before loading the mod) and then they appear in-game. I'm not sure you could automatically assign a flag to a specific leader and just have it come up by selecting the leader. The only way I can really think of would be just to include the name of the leader in parentheses. So if you wanted to use the Roman Laurels with an SPQR for Scipio (not that it will be Scipio) and the Roman Laurels without SPQR in them (for Marcus Aurelius for example) it would say something like "Laurels Only (Marcus)" and "SPQR Flag (Scipio)." That would make it easy to customize all of the civs, but if you wanted a specific leader/flag you'd have to select it before the game starts and use a custom game option. Otherwise if you switched the Platagenet flag I use for England with a Union Jack you'd have to select either Victoria or Churchill yourself. Another thing; not all the flags I am using as the base have a leader attached to them. The Plantagenet flag I use for England wouldn't match with either Tudor leader, nor would it fit with Victoria or Churchill. So we'd have to extend it to include numerous flags rather than just the one alternate.

Maybe for the first version I'll include one alternate flag, and then try to get it streamlined for the Deluxe edition. I just thought for now it would be interesting considering all of the extra flags you have made.

EDIT: I just thought of something else, wouldn't it be cool if I had a "Custom Civilization" option, where I put in a bunch of Generic leaders, UUs, and UBs so the player can select a generic leaderhead, traits, UU, UB and techs, and along with this flag thing you could literally create your own civ on the spot. Of course the units wouldn't be flavored (unless I just added some generic sets like Amerindian, MesoAmerican, Mediterranean, European, African etc.) but that might be extremely complicated and may make the mod a :):):):):) to load up... maybe...

Also, if we are going to be able to get this flag thing to work Greece will need a Macedonian, Spartan, and Athenian flag, I haven't decided on who the fourth leader will be just yet.
