New to these boards, so hiyas everyone.
Anyway, I am a long time Civ player who recently picked up BTS. Liking it so far. I generally like a serious challenge, and am perfectly content to lose every 20 or 30 times before I get a win. My usual types of settings are small map/high sea level/raging barbs/10 AI's (yes, 10)/emperor level. Lately, I've been playing using the advanced start option, in which you get a number of "points" to spend at the start of the game. My question relates to how other advanced players would spend these points.
Generally, given my preferred settings, land and resources are at a huge premium. So I usually start out by "purchasing" a settler unit, a worker unit, and a few techs. I do not always play the same civs, so the techs I will buy depend largely on my starting techs and available resources (i.e., will get BW if I already have mining, will get poly if i have mysticism, will get masonry and get the great wall up quickly if i have stone access, etc.). I will usually not buy a city and opt for the settler instead...unless there is an obvious site I can see I'd want from the get-go.
However, this hasn't worked too well so far...haven't had a particularly successful start yet. If anyone sees any flaw in this or has other suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em!
Keep in mind that I *love* the great wall at high levels with raging barbs, and gleefully watch the barbs pummel my less fortunate neighbor civs.
