[BTS] MarnzMod

I love everything you've added, and the attention to detail, but... there are still a few bugs.

1. You could please give King David a different animation? He keeps bowing his head down and it looks glitchy.
2. It's a tad too easy to found religions. My last game, -4- of my cities were holy cities. And I wasn't even trying.
3. I keep having problems with the game crashing on me for no apparent reason. Was frustrating during my last game since I was 20% away from a religious victory.
4. Might be a good idea to go through with spell checker, there's a good bit of grammar and spelling errors.

Outside of that, this mod is -awesome.-
And, you actually made Spiritual and Industrial better traits again. I've never found myself wanting to build more wonders or switch civics more ofthen.

Still testing this great mod v. 1.8f and it seems to be going well.

One area of frustration, however, most likely has nothing to do with the mod, but with Civ IV itself . . . Diplomacy.

It seems that unless you let everyone run 'willy-nilly' across your lands, the other nations all hate you. There seems to be no room for 'isolationism' (everyone keep out of my borders, I don't get involved in other people's wars, don't trade away my precious goods for cheap plastic that breaks if looked at too closely . . . ). I mean, posting "No Trespassing" signs along my borders seems to translate into "kill him" by the other nations. And then, I have to switch economies, grow an army, and stomp on the six or seven nations that simultaneously declared war on me for no good reason. :rolleyes:
What's a dictator to do? :(

So are there any mods or changes that can be added to "force" an alliance or conversion or vassal state? (Besides Worldbuilder) Is there any way for a nation to remain absolutely neutral -- like the Switzerland approach (such as during WWII)? or perfectly isolationist like the Japanese approach (up to the Colonial period)?

Anyway, I don't have any solutions, just questions. It just seems the diplomacy side of the game could use a little tweaking. ;)
. . . either that or I need to learn to play nice with my neighbors, but where's the fun in that? :D

Umm... Switzerland wasn't entirely neutral during WW2. They still traded with both sides, mainly the Axis.

Really though, that isn't a MarnzMod thing. It's a problem in the basic game too.
Kinda fits real life, though. Look at modern times. Look at the UN.
No country has its own business any more, no isolationism.
The only true isolationist nations in real life have been nations geographically seperated.

To the Almighty dF: It's a problem in the real world too. You can't run a country, nation or empire WITH CLOSED BORDERS. It's only logical that this will antagonize surrounding powers.

Is it me or is Sanitation.dds not distibuted with any of the updates? I think I got them all but cant seem to find it. Could anyone possibly post it for me?

Its not that the game chashes or anything. I just merged Sanitation/Sewers into my own mod.

And btw Great mod Marnz!!

in this mod and in the core game I have limited the number of instances of each unit. I experimented a lot before getting a formula that still delivers a good tough game, but without silly spam and long tedious late game wars. The mod has such good late game units that it's a pity to opt for space race just to avoid the tedium. Here's my formula;

all units up to Infantry/marines= 15 (12 also plays out as a good game)

Paratroopers = 15

AT infantry, mech inf / modern armour / artillery /mobile sam/ ... all late game stuff = 8

All naval = 8 ( but more transports and Galleons)

All air = 8

airships 2 (or zero. I don't like them)

ICBM / tac nuke = 4

you can enjoy the late game more.
Mice: Good stuff! :goodjob:
How hard is it do? Can shall we say, someone with the very very basics of virtual basic be able to do it?

It's pretty easy.
Spoiler :

go to Program files/firaxis games/Civ4/Beyond the sword/Assets/XML/Units/Unitclassinfos.

Copy this file (unitclassinfos)

Make a mod folder in ; Program files/firaxis games/Civ4/Beyond the sword/Mods (right click in the Mods folder to do this)

Call it whatever ... "no spam" for example.

In this folder make an folder called Assets

In that make a folder called XML

In that make a folder called Units

In that put your copy of unitclassinfos.

You can now alter this file by opening it (right click to get some options ,like notepad or wordpad)

Heres as an example the cannon.
<UnitClassInfo>
<Type>UNITCLASS_CANNON</Type>
<Description>TXT_KEY_UNIT_CANNON</Description>
<iMaxGlobalInstances>-1</iMaxGlobalInstances>
<iMaxTeamInstances>-1</iMaxTeamInstances>
<iMaxPlayerInstances>-1</iMaxPlayerInstances>
<iInstanceCostModifier>0</iInstanceCostModifier>
<DefaultUnit>UNIT_CANNON</DefaultUnit>
</UnitClassInfo>

You can see iMaxPlayerInstances

It is set as -1 which means unlimited.

Change it to 12 , or whatever number you want.

Now each player including the AI can only build 12 cannons

In game when you build a cannon it will say 11 left.

Play the game by going "advanced", "load a mod", "No spam" (for example).

@mice
I'm not sure about limiting individual units. Could be a problem when using different map sizes. :(

That was just my preference for me and I usually play small maps.

I'm playing the standard 1.8 in my strategy game if you want to drop in and give advice,hint hint.

.... another link won't hurt...Marnz game / Roosevelt

I'll be on a business trip for the next month or so and unable to play, but have we gotten anywhere with the happiness issue?

Aka Im dying to hear if we're going to try any of those solutions (= - so far this mod's been great, though I miss 1.7's Ishtar Gate already.

I know, that was SOOOOO fun. Teleporting Missionaries was great, so was supplying my entire empire with state-of-the-art units with just a click. Have to say though, the new version makes a hell of a lot more sense.

Nice mod, I was looking forward to giving it a try but I have a problem. Whenever I start a game I don't get any interface. I can't open options either. Am I doing something wrong?

It could be that you have custom assets. In the ini file change "no custom assets" from 0 to 1. Same in the config file (?) . It might be that.

can someone tell me how to turn off the flashing message
about the bug mod options middle bottom of the screen ?
the ctl-atl -o for bug mod options one
I have unchecked several boxes i thought controlled this no effect
I have turned off what i thought applied to this in both marnz mod.ini
and bug mod.ini ,still there
It is giving me such a headache I can't play

Thanks for trying to help Mice, but after reading and searching around I've found that it's no actually a MarnzMod problem, it has to do with CIV complete and BUG. And since MarnzMod uses BUG I'm going to have a hard time getting it to work right now. There are some ideas and help in the BUG forum but I'm not exactly a computer wiz so implementing them will be hard for me. We'll see how things goes.

This is giving me the mother of all headaches. :D

Edit: Got it to work finally. The solution was in the BUG bug thread. Still has some issues but it seems I'm not alone so maybe there'll be a fix soon. At least I can play MM now!

hi,

i have installed the actual version + patch (1.8, 1.8f) in the correct directories, but whenever i start a game with marnzmod, the GUI, the Interface is missing. (in world view and also in city view..)

in addition, in the main menue, i can access e.g. option, nothing happens if i ll click that menue button.

does anyone has an idea, why this is happening?

in a vanilla BTS game, the gui is displayed normally..

any help is highly appriciated,
cheers and thanks in advance..

dear Pe Ell,
could you please post a link, where exactly you found a solution, or give instructions, how to get the missing interface back (+options menue)?

i was searching for quite a while now, trying to disable custom assets, reinstalling civ 4 complete, shift + 1, deleting custom assets folder, unzipping newest BUG 2.2.0 in the Marnzmod folder..

but nothing seems to work. your problem seems to be exactly like mine..

cheers

ah, finally.
so, for all of you, who are searching for a solution:

* start - run
* type regedit
* go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete

there you find a INSTALLDIR entry

* you have to copy the contents of this entry to the other civ4 sections above, e.g. to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Beyond the Sword

(create a new REG_SZ entry in each section, and paste the contents (install directory) of the original key into it by editing the newly created keys.)

runs, runs, runs.
well, im happy now.
cheers
