[BtS] "Mars, Now!"

Oh, okay. I was just remembering from a book I had as a kid that had detailed maps of all the planets, plus an artist's rendering of the surface of Pluto. It also had a detailed map of the Lunar surface, and pictures of the extra-terrestrial moons.

Title? Sound interesting.

By the way, I realized that when playing on a non-Martian scenario map the tiles are still in Martian colors. I know this is a lot to ask, but is it possible to make the Lunar scenario have a gray map, etc.?

That would either need
- new terrain for all the different "art styles", and all maps would have to be changed
or
- some dirty hack, which i can't really imagine at the moment. I think it may be possible to do it in python (it's sure with SDK, but that's not my area), but that would need some time for investigations of the code.

-> not motivated, sorry :(.

Installed and updated with the patch. I get about 15 turns in and it crashes. Tried a new game and same thing happened in about the same time frame. Ideas?

No real idea.
If you have the savegame, then i can take a look at it. Maybe i see where the problem comes from.

The title was "Space Atlas" (c) 1996 (I think)

It's alright if you don't want to do the terrains, it was really only a passing fancy. It's one in the same way that wanting to see the ability to have leaderheads whose religious insignia and flags change with religion and whose attire and flags change with time.

Never heard of that the changing flags, but quite interesting. Not really doable for Civ4, i guess.

And thanks for the book, i'll see if i can find something online about it.

Here's the crash save file.

Meh, seems i've played around on my mods installation, so that i can't load it atm. I'll have to figure out where i've placed the original installation files, will check it tomorrow (already quite late here; sorry for that :().

@kalawon:

O mejor lo digas en español y lo traduzco para los que no hablan español.

I'm unable to download this from atomicgamer. Any chance the file could be shared with torrent?

Manage to get it from Megaupload.

I like the mod, but something seems a little... bland, here are some suggestions to make the terrain more interseting, and deserts less annoying:

First of all, the entire mars is (logically) a desert, but the current desert is supposed to be ocean beds ( when there was water on mars these were oceans), so how about adding a new terrrain type, (ocean bed). It would produce 1 gold and 1 food, and when terraforming is used on non-hill beds, it would create water, and when used on beds with hills, it would create mars-soil with mars grass on it. (it would also have the recourses of the current desert + mars fossils) You may build windmills, archealogical digs ( will specify later) and (forgot it's name) workshops here, lots of sandstorms spawn in this type of terrain.

The second new terrain type would be canyon, which would produce 1 hammer and 2 gold, it would be generated in short strips ( a bit like rivers, but shorter and they do not end in ocean beds) It can be terraformed to ocean trenches ( 2 hammers 1 food 2 gold)
you cam not terraform hills here, you ca build mines and a new improvent I will suggest, archealogical digs here. mainly iron, copper, water and bacteria and gas ( and a new recourse, mars fossils) will spawn in this type of terrain, this type of terrain is rare, but not overly so.

New resource: mars fossils, revealed by a new research: archealogy, gives a standard 1 gold bonus, but when improved by archeaological dig it gives 4 gold and 1 hammer. Provide +1 happiness with mars museum. Spawns in ocean beds and canyons.

New improvement: Archealogical dig: provides a standard of 1 gold and 1 hammer, improves mars fossils, has a small chance of revealing mars fossils.

New building: Mars Museum: Provides 3 (culture) and + 10% science,
+1 happiness and +1 (culture) with mars fossil

New research: Archealogy: Reveals Mars Fossils, allows Mars Museum, can build archealogical dig, can flatten hills. (you decide when it can be researched and the amount of research points needed for it)

This concludes my suggestion list. :cool:

I would be very glad if you implemented this :goodjob:

:sad: i added a notice to the first post, that the developement of the mod has stopped for now :sad:.

-> nice suggestions, i like the archaeological stuff (not sure if i'd implement it), but i'll not do any work on the mod in the next time :sad:.

what, why is the development paused? :(

It's okay, let it sleep for now. It will be born anew later.

Hello, Mr The J,

Very nice mod, I am enjoying it very much. I have one problem, though: I can't play past this turn (attached file). When I go on to the next turn, the game crashes to the desktop. Could you please help me figure this out? I want to finish this game! :(
