[BtS] Star Trek Mod

I guess fictional as not shown in cannon?

Still love 4.0... and maybe someone someday could add 8472, and if not 4.0 will still be something I play for years to come.

After becoming bored and frustrated with Civ 5, I revisited Civ 4 and found your amazing ST mod! Thank you so much for this! The time and effort you've obviously put into this is staggering and now I read I have version 4.0 to look forward to!

Keep up the good work as it is very much appreciated!:)

Would be interested to know, Panda Power, why you are bored and frustrated with Civ 5?

Obviously, at the moment, all the best mods are in Civ IV, including this one. :)

The reviews I read of Civ 5, no stacking allowed and a reduction in the influence of missionaries, seemed like a step back to me so I haven't bothered to invest in it.

It's the AI or rather the AU because it is just so ridiculously unintelligent! I know in time it will get better and I do really look forward to going back to it one day in the future, but as it is now it's just like playing the same game every time.

The AI has one mission and that's to get the highest score by spamming cities and taking over (puppeting) other civ cities and city states. It is totally clueless about the other victory conditions and seems to go totally unpunished economy wise and happiness wise whichever difficulty level you play.

One minute they're happy with you because you've generously given them some gold during hard times or released a kidnapped-by-barbarians unit back to them and then in the next turn they'll plop a city right beside your empire, miles from theirs, and then go to war with you for encroaching on "their" territory!

War, like diplomacy, is then a joke because it consists of the AI attacking you with one unit at a time, which of course you can just destroy easily while leveling up your weaker units one by one until it gets to the point where you can just steamroll each and every AI civ every game.

It's not challenging and it's not much fun!

That said, there is potential and I'm sure once the SDK is released then our amazing team of talented modders will be able to do wonders with it, but right now I'm just not feeling the appeal to fire up another game.

Many thanks, Panda Power. In pre-launch reviews I had read of concerns about Civ 5.

A while back, WPC was having problems with files over 10 MB. I notified Dale of it- eventually they fixed it. But, a bug was left behind for really big files- I think over 500 MB.

Like Star Trek.

I'd talk to Dale about it- it's easily fixable (they already fixed some other big files there, like Rise from Erebus). You just have to contact them.

I've been trying to get this working... where am I supposed to extract the exe file? From what it looks like during the installation (the installation creates files named Beyond the Sword and Mods), it looks like I'm supposed to install this directly on top of Beyond the Sword, but that doesn't seem like a good idea. Anyone want to confirm it?

I've installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled this thing a couple times, all to no avail.

You should just leave it as the default unless it doesn't find your BtS install for some reason. I don't know if it's possible to change the text or not (I'd like it to say "please select where BtS is installed"). I doesn't overwrite any of your files, despite the fact that the installer complains about already existing folders.

Okay, then, a couple questions:

1: The mod folder is supposed to have a bunch of little folders for different periods of the series, i.e. a Xindi Attack folder, a Voyager folder, and a general Star Trek folder?
2: After reinstalling, I tried running the program (I tried to start up Star Trek Galaxy first, then tried Voyager). Each time, I got the following:

CFC Error: Failed to initialized the primary control theme.

This pops up two times, then the game crashes during the loading process.

I haven't set up Star Trek as my primary mod (partially because I'm not sure how, and partially because I don't want to mess things up if Star Trek won't work).

I just uninstalled/reinstalled it, again, directly into My Games, just to make sure. And again, same problem occurred.

Posting pictures of the Mods and BtS folders, just to ensure I'm doing it right. If there's another folder/file you want to ask for in the install, I'll be sure to put it here.

Thanks for your help!

EDIT: Okay, great... now I really feel like a 50-year old lady trying to figure out the Internet for the first time. I can't even get the image thing to work right!
