Bug Report

Hi guys,

maybe you've already answered this somewhere, but I couldn't find it. It seems that Naval Mines and also all versions of Submarine units have a small flaw: they won't defend. I placed every one of those units on a sea resource in order to protect it and still the enemy was able to sail right in and pillage. My units merely moved to an adjacent square and woke up. As mines can only defend, there's a glaringly obvious problem with this. What can I do about it?

Yes, this seems to indeed be the case. Actually, they can defend, but only against those who see them - looks like we have to make mines visible.

I just downloaded 2.4 and it blows my mind. However whenever I try to look at the civilopedia page on the Korean Kobukson, I get a runtime error and the game crashes. Any ideas?

edit: I looked in World Builder and didn't even see a Kobukson...

Yes, I checked it and indeed pedia for it crashes for some weird reason. Nevertheless, the unit itself works fine. You likely didn't find it because it is grouped with other national units, not with ships.

Have a bug where the info on the left hand side doesn't appear, just get a thing saying "BugOptions - Cannot locate settings folder" every turn. I assume this problem has likely been found before, apologies for repeating the question in that case. Anyway, what should I be doing?

It's:

C:\Program Files (x86)\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Warlords\Mods\Total Realism

I'm on Windows 7 though, if that's going to cause problems?

No, I'm on Win7 myself. Must be that you're using the Complete. Have you downloaded the installer yesterday/today or before that? The installer has been recently updated to better handle Civ Complete - but you may already have that, and then I don't know how to help you, but I will direct our coder's attention to your report.

Only downloaded TR yesterday, at approx 6pm GMT, so I doubt it's going to be that unless the update was REALLY recent... I thought it might be the Complete edition, but I thought it was best to ask. Thanks a lot for your help, though, the attempt is appreciated.

I am experiencing the same error each turn...downloaded yesterday morning

There is another odd thing happening: during the process of installation, the bar stops permanently at "delete file......total realism.ini" while it says "updating .ini files".

Nothing happens for minutes. I also made sure that no other version of the .ini file was installed beforehand, so there's nothing to delete or update in the first place... I just stopped the installer and started the mod... everything worked fine, except for the Bug described above. And, which is pretty nerv-wrecking, alerts for events of turn 1 are only shown at the beginning of turn 2, and so on.

Besides these complaints, however, this is the best mod I have yet gotten a hold of, thumbs up!

About once every one to two hundred turns, I receive and error stating a memory allocation failure and forces my game to quit. I cannot seem to find any set of circumstances which lead to this error - rather, it seems quite random.

Encountered this before?

A fix for your problem: http://civ4.houmie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=811

This is the most commonly reported "problem" with our mod (which in fact has nothing to do with it, and is about 32-bit windows architecture and memory handling in general; I remember running into it even in Half-Life 2). In our thread in the mods section, it has recently been discussed in depth. What is your OS? Is it 32 or 64 bit?

Wow thanks man that completely solved all MAF problems.

I wonder though why I have only experienced this with Total Realism. For example, I used to RoM for BTS, which is also a very large mod, which I often played on Gigantic Maps, so I'm not sure why this is the first time I had ever encountered MAFs.

Then the only thing you'll need to do is step 1 from here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=225205

Then you should be MAF-free.

I am running Win 7 Home Premium 64 and getting memory allocation errors. The solution you link to states "this method is only for WinXP Pro..."

Is there a solution for Win 7 64?
I'm running a Steam version of Civ 4 Warlords so it is the current/final build.

I can't get to 1000 BC before this error crashes the game, and I really want to play this mod. It is a blast to play right up to the MAF.

Just use the first step of the solution, and it will cure you of the crashes completely, since you have a 64-bit OS (the particular OS doesn't matter for this step as long as it's 64-bit).
