Bug Reporting

@StratoManiac - Glad you got it working. Did you figure out what you did to fix it? Can you send me (PM or post) a copy of your working TGA?

@OneBinary - The hover text is created by the DLL which BUG doesn't alter. Perhaps try the same game without the "Unofficial Patch" DLL.

@Thornburgh - Thanks for the report, I'll check it out. I agree that they should be included under something other than tiles. I'd rather not add another line (reduces number of visible buildings).

Perhaps I'll change "Buildings" to "Buildings & Corporations" (or just include it without changing the text). The only buildings that supply hammers are religious ones when you have the AP.

Buildings would be quite ok. Typically, corporations and the AP hammer bonus are of a different time period.

Looks like this one isn't in the Unofficial Patch. I restored the original DLL, loaded up the game, and the value was the same. I was able to verify that it was 'vanilla' 3.13 because the culture was missing when hovering on buildings that have culture (eg monument).

Something that is interesting is the value, 1243067 is constant for all cities and all turns. Saying that another way, the value displayed is always 1243067 no matter what city you look at, or what turn it is. Seems like an out-of-bounds issue.

Are we sure those values aren't touched by Raw Commerce or something like that?

I suppose you want me to uninstall BUG and try it again, eh? :)

   OMG I dont remember! I did some test like erase tga files and copying it back to some directory. And suddenly it worked. Cant tell exaclty why, but I'm sure its dumb and simple !!!

Eeek, it's a Firaxis bug. The value persisted after removing BUG (assuming BUG didn't cause this issue, and based on what you mentioned, we don't believe it did). I'll have to keep an eye on that value more closely in subsequent games.

I wanna say I enjoyed the BUG mod and thats the way to go !!!
If I knew how to programm I would do the same :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

I really like the score board in game customization !!!!!!!!!! woot !!!

@OneBinary - I agree that an alert makes more sense for when the whip anger wears off. I'll take a look at that this week.

Another report -- I just tried this on my HTPC running Vista at 1360x768, and for some reason the BUG mod (a) makes the game interface disappear (alt-I doesn't help), and (b) from the main menu "options" under "advanced" does nothing at all (ditto "options" in game). Both (a) and (b) work fine if I delete BUG on this computer. Is something hardcoded to assume a different aspect ratio or resolution? Or maybe it's just Vista (which is pretty buggy)?

BUG never assumes anything about resolution. If it did, the worst you should see is mispositioned elements. No interface means it's tanking -- most likely not finding "BUG Mod.ini" though not always the case.

Can you enable Python error logging in CivilizationIV.ini

Code:
; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = [B]1[/B]

...

; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = [B]1[/B]

Then run the game again and post the contents of the file "PythonErr.log". If it's missing, you didn't enable it correctly. If it's there but blank, then it's not a Python error.

How did you install it on Vista? Did you use the EXE or ZIP? Did you alter anything afterwards, like change it to be in the Mods folder?

Vista will not affect BUG any differently then XP. Either the installer, or the zip file worked perfectly for me. I really think it's most likely related to a missing or misplaces INI file, or else the MOD was put into the MODs dir.

Ok, I will try to debug as you say. One thing to consider: the Vista "my documents" directory structure is different. I have the .ini file in the BTS documents folder, but that folder is not in "my documents" -- it is in user\documents\my games.

BUG uses the registry to get to the My Games\BtS folder (just like Civ4 will do), so that should be okay. Can you answer the questions regarding how you installed?

The BUG setup file will default to the same directory as BTS did. In Vista it should default to Users\(user name)\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword. This is where the .INI file has to go to run as a CustomAsset. The setup file will work on XP or Vista because it's not using a set directory, but a variable. %MyDocs%\My Games\Beyond the Sword. So as long as BTS is in your default Documents folder, you won't have a problem. Otherwise you WILL need to copy the ini file to the correct directory.

Hope that helps.:)

A few questions and maybe a bug.

I've created a huge mod for my own game... added units a dn new civ and leaders plus gameplay changes. I've done it all through customassets, except for Bhuric's unnoficial patch dll which resides in the normal game directory. One other change I had to leave in the main game folder was changed to the globalvariables so things like City distance stick. Will those changes I made still work?

In light of this, I installed the BUG mod to its own mod directory. When I bring up the ctl-alt-o options panel, make some changes, and hit "exit" - it won't shut the window. Any idea why this is? I have to kill the whole Civ program to get out of it.

I have the same thing and its always the same value.

It sounds like you have changes in only one "Mods" subfolder ("BUG Mod"), so you should be OK. The game will take whatever is in CustomAssets first, then what's in the mod folder, and finally what's in the main Assets folder.

BUG is all Python and overrides the main Assets stuff just fine. As long as you only have XML changes in your CustomAssets folder, it should work.

When I bring up the ctl-alt-o options panel, make some changes, and hit "exit" - it won't shut the window.

This happens because it cannot write the changes to the "BUG Mod.ini" file. Make sure the Mods subfolder you created for BUG is called "BUG Mod" exactly. Also make sure it has "BUG Mod.ini" inside it.

If you've got both of those like that, post again and we'll see if we can help.

I installed by copying my BTS folder from one computer to the other, so not a normal install. I haven't a chance today to play with further testing but will report.

Try putting "BUG Mod.ini" into "c:\Users\USER\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword" and hope it works. Without Civ4-specific registry entries created by installing the game, you might be SOL.

If you're registry-inclined, you could create the entries manually by looking in your XP registry for the right values.

@Thornburgh - Check out the latest version from SVN. I moved corporation hammers to the third line (now Buildings & Corporations).

I also changed how the toggle "button" looks. Since I can't get the graphical buttons to work with text, I have it draw both icons (:commerce: and :hammers:) but the one being displayed is larger. Hopefully this is clearer for people without having to read the docs.

the other option is that you could put a yellow border around the selected one similar to a selected unit.
