Bug Reports and Technical Issues

I'm getting a weird crash. "GFC error: failed to initialise the primary control theme."

Since I have the steam version, and I switched to the "beta" so that I would have the latest release, I first told it to install to a different directory and then copied it manually into my mod folder.

If you are using the git version, did you rename the folder? Maybe there is a typo?

No, I'm using the version from your signature, 1.14. I did rename the folder to RFC so that I could use the desktop shortcut.

Edit: Changing the folder name back fixed it. Is there a way to get the desktop shortcut working now?

Can't check, but if you right click the shortcut and select properties, it should have an entry called "target" or similar that points to BeyondtheSword.exe. This is followed by a mod=... reference that points to the mod to be used.

Unfortunately the name of the mod folder isn't compatible. It doesn't read the spaces added, and just tries to load a mod from a folder called "RFC."

You need to enclose the whole mod folder name in quotes.

Getting this error (https://imgur.com/a/BRtEC) on the 600AD map, and only that map. Plays fine on the other starts

git clone'd using bash on windows 10, and moved according to instructions. Re-downloading the repo didn't help.

Reverted back to before your last change to that file (10 days ago) didn't change it. Perhaps I need to try older versions still?

Cheers

PS thanks for all the work on this, too.

I think this is the EOL issue which can be solved by opening 600 AD file in Notepad++ and specifying Windows EOL.

The amount of times I've seen the EOL error get reasked on this forum frustrates me. Just Google the error and the mod you're using, 9 times out of 10 it's already been asked and answered. Not angry at you @omnislip, I'm sure googling it didn't occur to you. But can we all agree to google error reports before asking about them?

I just googled the error, and a solution doesn't pop up. As well, the solutions offered in this thread to this specific issue are not useful if you don't already know how to solve the problem. Hence why I had to ask clarifying questions when it happened to me—"It's an EOL error, change it to Windows" isn't helpful unless you already knew how to solve it.

Weird, I found it when I looked it up a few months back. Sometimes you need to fiddle with the keywords. Changing Dawn of Civilization to DOC gives massively different results. As would changing DOC to RFC and then to Rhyes and Fall.

EDIT: Found it first try.

I included this issue in the FAQ section of this thread, I don't know what else to do. SEO this forum perhaps.

I had looked fairly extensively without specifying the mod or map specifically, reasoning that it would be a more general Civ 4 issue. Search results for that are poor.

This, however, I really should have done. Sorry!

Met a division by zero error when calculating resurrection, I suppose.

No problem man. Can't blame people for a lack of search skills. I'm more annoyed when people are lazy and don't search at all and/or search but don't do it to the best of their ability.

I'm getting a crash on this turn as France, dunno why. Playing newest revision--I think.
No crash for me, maybe you are missing the latest fixes? Try updating.

This doesn't happen for me, are you on the latest version? Anything else I need to do in this save?
I wasn't sure if the autosave could reproduce the error, should've been more careful. If I can make it happen again I'll let you know.

Okay thanks. I recently fixed an error like this though, so still make sure you are on the latest version.
