Bug Reports and Technical Issues

I am aware of this issue but have deprioritised it for now. Not because it isn't important, but because debugging things like this can take some time and I want to focus on easier wins at the moment.

The logging of a combat starts with listing the units involved with owner, unit type and effective strength being displayed. Then comes a bit of bookkeeping (odds, modifiers, ...) and then the result of each combat round. Lastly the result is displayed noting again the unit types and owner, and who won.

In the initial message of the owner the independents are listed as independents, in each round and the last message as barbarians.
Actually, it is working as intended. Where the barbarians are mentioned it is not the civilization name, but the leader name that is displayed. The indeps are currently led by the barbarian leader, so that is the origin of this confusion.

Maybe a copy of the barbarian leader with "Independent" as name can be created for them?

I have a good save in case you still need

Hello!

I have some suggestions. I played for Holy Rome, tell me please, probably better change 3rd history goal: have pleased relations with 8 independent civilizations in Europe. AI can't break the deal about vassal state with human player and it makes this goal very difficult. I have save and here only +2 civs which i can make pleased, and also i have 5 pleased yet. Another one not independent.

I could not agree about vassal state, but then they choose another strong civ. What about change task - u should have pleased relations with all independent civs in Europe? Not 8

There should be a few civilizations that you can release.

Voluntary vassal deals can be cancelled.

But then why can't we release annexed subjects?

Republic seems to be giving me a specialist in 4 cities though it says it should only give one in 3 (I last updated July 19 this year)

There already is an Independent Leader, even before 1.18. For some reason the Independent civs always default to Barbarian Leader.

Update on this: it looks like it sometimes happens right after settling a city in the new city. In one save, I was sending my settler to the wrong place but if you settle in place or on the spot marked with the alt x it should give the city a free specialist, while in the other one settling where the settler is does not give it an extra free specialist. Not sure if this info is helpful but thought I'd mention it just in case :P

The extra free specialist from the earlier save eventually went away - unfortunately I didn't notice when

Bad AI decision: AI Arabia get a Great Prophet in Al-Uqsur, and instead of using him to build the shrine for Islam (more widespread, his state religion), he uses it to build the Jewish shrine.

It's very often to Arabian AI build Temple of Solomon and then Dome of the Rock. Not sure it's a bad thing
That's actually a good point, I had forgotten about the Dome of the Rock. So long as there is some logic behind the AI doing that.

I am having trouble with getting the 1.18 version to run on my machine. I had installed 1.17 and it was running well with the BTS I had bought from GOG, I moved 1.17 to a new folder and extracted the 1.18 zip from github to the old RFC Dawn of Civilization folder.

I get these errors on the mod loading:

GFC error: failed to initialize the primary control theme

Is there possibly a problem with how I am installing the mod? Would using the github installer help?

No, everything looks right from what I can tell. Did you rename the existing v1.17 directory and create a new one from scratch? It sounds like you left something behind, perhaps that is the issue. To be safe, you can try deleting the current "RFC Dawn of Civilization", extracting the zip to the same place and renaming "Dawn-of-Civilization" to "RFC Dawn of Civilization" again.

I played for England and got error. Next turn after save, those errors happen.
