Bug Reports

I reported this bug before, but I'd like to readdress it.

Sometimes during a game, a foreign civ changes leaders. For instance, Germany could start up with Bismarck, and due to political unrest or whatever, Hitler would assume his place. In the regular game, this is all good and well, but in scenarios, Hitler would still be called "Bismarck", although Hitler's leaderhead shows up.

Now, the question is, how do we fix this for scenarios? I've checked the LoR-compatible Lean's Pre Placed Earth scenario file, and it has the following info for civs:

BeginPlayer
Team=20
LeaderType=LEADER_GENGHIS_KHAN
LeaderName=TXT_KEY_LEADER_GENGHIS_KHAN
CivDesc=Mongolian Tribe

The "TXT_KEY_LEADER_GENGHIS_KHAN" used to be only the name, "Genghis Khan" in earlier world builder files, indicating a set leadername for the particular civ. However, with Revolutions, leaders change habitually, so the TXT_KEY_LEADER parameter should probably mean that the leadername is NOT set and will change if the leader is replaced, right?

Unfortunately not. I tried using the TXT_KEY_LEADER in my own scenario file, and it still doesn't affect leader names for civilizations preset in the scenario file. Civs having spawned during play act like in the regular game, their leaders change properly.

Any idea how to set up the world builder scenario file so that leadernames are just as dynamic as leaderheads?

Interesting find. You should report this in the RevDCM forum, as this is a minor text bug in the RevDCM core. It's probably a simple fix, but i"m not sure where to start to look, jdog or glider probably have a much better idea. Also fixing this issue in the RevDCM core will fix it for all RevDCM based mods.

I tried for a wk to download this mod and then it would load on my computer. I downloaded the light version and tried to load it onto my computer and got the same error as the full version. It just says the installer is corrupt. Common causes are incomplete down load or dmged media. I put it on disk and memory stick for usb port. I have to down load it at the library to and then say to disk. This way to take home to down load. I play Wolfshanze and have no probs with it. Going to try WolfRev now. Would really like to play Legends of Revolution but unless I can get it to down load I won't be able to. I thought about trying a zip file since that is how wolfshanze was loaded to my computer. Any ideas? Please and Thankyou.

That means your download was corrupted. I just double checked the Strategy Informer 0.9.6c light mirror, and it's fine, also I know I checked filefront's mirror as well, and was fine. So most likely the download was corrupted on your end. Only thing to do in that case is to redownload and try again.

phungus: I am experiencing CTDs in this game, full LoR, last version, enhanced graphics. At least three so far, every ten turns or so. Could you check the savegame, let it play a few turns and see if it happens to you too?

CTDs are only useful if you have one that is reproduceable. If you have a CTD where it occurs on the next turn, and always will, that's helpful. If you have a game that you have gotten CTDs on, but you reload and can play on, that doesn't help. In such cases the cause of the CTD is usually user specific. Like I say, if you have a save, where you press enter and you know it'll crash, or freeze, or hang or whatever then post the save because this lets me fix the critical bug, or allows me to isolate it to RevDCM code, where it can be passed along to jdog to be fixed. However if the critical issue is not reproduceable, I can do nothing.

I see. However, I think I found the cause. For some reason, the game crashed whenever a new tune was about to begin, but only when I was using the Custom Music option. This has never happened before, only in my most recent game. Strange, but no biggie.

I will try again and see what happens and let you know something. Thanks for the reply. I really want to try this mod. I got wolfshanze revs down loaded but not before you removed your content and like the way it plays so hopefully I can get this one down loaded soon.

I ran into some problems in the late industrial/ early modern era. basically, when I was contacted by other nations such as happens after the turn button has been hit and all the unit movements have been handled, I have had a few CTDs with no further information. happened with louis XIV and lenin, which had both been in the game since the start. I think they both asked me to join their war. it could reproduce it once or twice, but on the third time it didn't produce any problems. I just wanted to have it mentioned, maybe it happens again. dunno if it is much use adding a save file, given that it eventually did work out. hm, come to think of it, in the latter case, I did do some city optimisation and saved again, overwriting the old save before continuing and finally making it past that error.

anyway, as I said, it should be mentioned, maybe it's nothing. if you have any idea how to deal with it, let me know, I'll help as I can.

I was playing and it suddenly crashed? any ideas?

This will happen occassionally; particularly in the late game, and after playing for awhile. The game has a memory bleed, and is taxing on systems. You can minimize this by reducing your graphics settings.

I would still like to know the specifics just in case it is not the memory leak thing. Sometimes when people report crashes they mean a number of things. Its a good guess, but whith that description he couldve been playing for like 10 minutes and had a crash, which more than likely would be something else.

Hold the presses. I just figured out why they are doing that. In the art defines entry they have <bActAsRanged> set to 0 when it should be 1. So it will be fixed in next release. Its always the simple stuff that gets overlooked.

EDIT: In fact the yeomanry, SAS, 101st were not set to act as ranged.

I'm playing the newest 0.9.6c, and cuirassiers still don't range attack. Checked the XML file, and will update it for myself, but you should consider fixing it before the next release. :)

Yep, I know. But it was a mistake back then, too. Cuirassiers are armed with a musket of sorts and should behave like cavalry.

Hmm maybe it does need to be changed. I think the cuirassier is a bad unit, it should have lances and swords and such. Plus they didnt fight the same way as late cavalry.

I guess it would be good for continuity.

Hello.

Great mod. :)

But I am sorry to report that, since moving from 0.94 to 0.96C, I get occasional game crashes. :cry:
0.94 never crashed, nor did BTS, and no other game ever crashes on my computer.

I got three crashes in the last two games, always the same type: suddenly, I get the Windows warning: "Civ4 has encountered a problem and must be closed" (or whatever the exact wording - my Windows is in French).

So far, they happened in early stages of the game (1st and 2nd eras). So one can't blame excessive memory load.

Those crashes are random, and not reproduceable. So it's just an annoyance, but still, I felt I had to report them.

I use Win XP pro sp2.
I have a Core2 duo 6600, 2 Gos of RAM and a GF 8800 GTX.

Sorry to annoy you. I still want to say that LoR rekindled my love for this game! :)

This message comes whenever a civ gives up its independence and becomes part of another civ:

"The %s have decided to give up their independence and join the %s!"

Problem is, the "%" should have been a civ name but never is.

I've included a screen shot.
