Building sets: India

Very nice.
I find that a total resize to 32x32 is not effective. You lose too much detail.
It is best to crop, or make the canvas smaller. However, it is advisable to try and keep the parts of the image that make it recognizable, unique.

To be honest, I don't know, I'm experimenting and hoping someone with real experience helps me out :D
Yep, I did make it cropped - I've been thinking... and this 32x32 is so small, that resizing the full image makes it sort of 'unreadable', so I thought maybe part of the image... but I have my doubts whichever way I go, so please advise...
Cropping for the small 'pedia/tech tree images is okay. Some of the crops don't work well though. It took me a long time to begin to get the hang of it with tech icons (when to reduce, where to crop).

I have found that often what works is cropping a bit & then reducing, so I get more of the image in, but it's still large enough to be readable. I also have learned that keeping a calculator handy, so I'm cropping to pixel counts that use multiples of powers of 2, helps reduced images look better. Just for example, 16 + 32 = 48. Cropping an image to 48x48 then reducing to 32x32 usually makes a better result than reducing from 55 to 32.

Hang in there! You're definitely a member of the club.

EDIT
: Someone else will need to comment on cropping images for the city screen. I've yet to work with those PCXs.

Wooo! Awesome!

As for India 1.. they were apparently orcs? :D
No, Rakshasas.:D

I anxiously await the rest of this pack... Some of the buildings will have immediate usefulness in the FF mod......

I'm glad you like it
I'm planning to finish preping and uploading previews for the rest of the India set today; then I'll experiment some more with 32x32.

@BM: Thanks for suggestions :)
Yep, I'm already working with a calculator, I haven't thought about multiples of 2 though. Well, practice makes perfect... so some day I'll get there :D

btw, I started with my least favourite graphics, so hopefully things will only get better ;)

@Stormrage, @Blue Monkey: yus referring to some other games? these will be wasted on me, as I only play Civ  other stuff is useful in that it has lots of nice buildings and units for conversion to Civ format :D

well, guys & girls, that's it - previews uploaded... that's what I've got for India at the mo; the names in dark red are still awaiting inspiration - so if you have any suggestions, photos, etc. I'll appreciate

where previews are present, that's what I have in mind for the large civ pic - I may correct a few pixels and shadows here and there, but that's the basic idea; if there's sth very wrong with any of these, speak now and forever hold your peace ;) - it would be good to know before I get on with more conversions

Orcs actually originally appeared in The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein. Tolkein's work was the basis of Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer, Warcraft, and just about every other modern fantasy setting (including, by a rather long, twisty path, Final Fantasy).

As a matter of fact, Orcs appear in every single one of the works mentioned (Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer, Warcraft and Final Fantasy), as well as a number of other fantasy settings.

let me add to the list:

OED "perh. derived from or influenced by L. Orcus, Romanic orco, and cf. OE orcþyrs oððe heldeofol 'orc-giant or hell-devil', also orcneas in Beowulf; a devouring monster, an ogre; used by J. R. R. Tolkien (1892–1973) in his tales: one of an imaginary warlike people in whom are combined human and ogreish characteristics"

but I'm familiar with Tolkien etc., just wasn't sure of the context here... well, true (undeniably) - I haven't played mods much, not for at least 3 years; besides, I'm currently not really into fantasy - apart from the recurring dream of mine that days are 48h long... ;)

Well, the reason that Stormrage made his comment about Orcs is that in most (actually, just about all) fantasy games and movies, Orcish archietecture is generally depicted along the lines of your "India 1" set, and I have a feeling that quite a few of those buildings may make an appearance in the next update for the Warhammer Fantasy mod.....

Also, I'm planning on using a number of your monastary and worship building graphics to represent different culture groups' yevon temples and mid-Eastern and/or Far Eastern Archon towers in the Final Fantasy mod.... That one, with the 4 gateways and large dome looks almost exactly like one of the Yevon temples from Final Fantasy X, as a matter of fact.
