Bz3 - Always War Crusade

I guess the color blind preference is for people like me.

0 - 750 AD
As I stride into our throne room, a disheveled penguin tosses me the keys on his way out and mutters something about Samurai, Shakespeare, and Keshiks. I scratch my head, open some windows, turn on a fan ;) , and call in our military advisor. He looks a little banged up and tells me that we have been taking quite a beating, but still have iron connected.
There are three Celtic knights and a MI two spaces from Chengdu. I move pikes from Tsingtao and Canton to Chengdu.
We seem to have lots of troops in our back lines twiddling their thumbs. Move some lazy troops towards the front.

IBT. The Celtic knights attack Kingpo. We lose a vet pike and an elite spearman and the city falls.

Beijing Settler --> Horse
Shanghai MI --> Pike
Nanking Pike --> Horse
Tsingtao Pike --> Horse
Tientsin Pike --> Pike
Vet horse kills 1/4 knight(catapulted) near Paoting
Vet horse loses to 1/5 Sam next to Paoting. Tojo is created. :D
Vet horse kills 1/3 longbow(catapulted) next to Paoting.
General Tso(elite horse) kills 1/5 Sam and Tojo.
Elite horse redlines and kills 2/4 knight near Chengdu
Elite sword kills 1/4 knight near Chengdu

IBT Paoting kills two sams and a knight and loses a spear and two horses.

2 - 770 AD
Chengdu Pike --> Horse
Elite horse vs vet MI in Ningpo. We die.
Vet horse vs 3/4 MI in Ningpo. We win and promote to elite
Vet horse vs 2/4 knight in Ningpo. We win and retake the city.
Vet horse kills reg longbow next to Anyang. The horse was my only defender in Anyang. I used the other horse to take Ningpo. The 2 attack of a horse is much better against the 1 defense of a longbow than waiting for his 4 attack against my 1 defense.
3/4 MI vs 3/4 knight. We lose and he promotes. 5 cats only took 1 hp off of this knight.
Vet horse vs 3/5 knight. We die w/o damaging the knight.
Vet horse vs 3/5 knight. We finally kill him
Vet horse vs 1/3 knight. We win.
Vet horse vs 1/4 Sam. We redline and win
Vet horse vs 2/4 knight. We win

IBT Two Sams kill wounded horses. Two other Sams attack Canton. One redlines and retreats, and the other dies on the end of a pike.

Work on Smith's and Magellan's is begun

3 - 780 AD
Canton Pike --> Horse
Elite horse kills 1/4 knight
Vet MI vs 3/5 Sam. He redlines and retreats.
3/4 horse vs 1/5 Sam. We die
Elite horse vs reg knight. We win.

4 - 790 AD
Beijing Horse --> Horse
Nanking Horse --> Horse
Tsingtao Horse --> Horse
Paoting Pike -- >Pike
4/5 horse kills 1/5 Sam
Vet horse vs 2/4 Keshik. We win and promote to elite
4/5 horse vs 1/5 Sam. We win
Vet horse kills vet longbow near iron

IBT We lose Paoting to two knights and seven Keshiks. :(
Two Samurai land near Paoting

5 - 800 AD
Xinjan Horse --> Horse
Tientsin Pike --> Pike
Anyang Pike --> Horse
Vet Horse kills 2/4 Keshik
Vet horse kills 1/4 Sam

I am passing the hot potato.

I feel like the only thing that I have learned so far from this game is that losing is less fun than winning. Fighting Samurai, Keshiks, and Knights has not been very fun. Atleast we have pikes.

This feels pretty hopeless. We are like the dead body that claims it isn't: “I'm not dead!”

The SAVE

Here is the rest of the Chinese story in pictures.

No wonder the next turn;

As if things were not bad enough, this new unit unknown to Chinese army comes along..

From here on the Chinese demise was swift and although very painful. The evil Koreans not only took the capital, they burned it to the ground.

What hurt Mao most was not the loss that came the next year but what Toku told him.

In case any of you is a masochist, here is the save so that you can relive the pain again and again.

Any ideas about Bz4? I was thinking that we have done enough warmongering so a variant where trade and research is given key importance would be nice.

EDIT: Here is an idea. Bz4 - Race to Alpha Centauri. The only win that we will go for is SS. And that too earliest possible win. Dig up the earliest known SS victory that you can find and let's try to beat that. What do you think?

I'd be interested in playing a straight up Deity game. I think that going for the earliest space race victory would have to be done on Deity anyway, though, so the two don't seem mutually exclusive.

Deity is fine with me. I tend to avoid Deity because it is too much MM (not one of my strong points), but I guess I should learn that too.

The thread is up. A race to the stars.
