SGOTM 1 - Results and Congratulations.

No fewer than 140 players in 19 teams signed up to play the first SGOTM for Civ4. Congratulations to all who took part, and thank you for making it a very interesting competition.

For the first game in this new format, Gyathaar set a fairly straightforward map, and you, playing as Egypt, were required to achieve a fast Domination or Diplomatic victory. A little spice was added in the form of a locked state of hostility between Egypt and the Incas, and a locked state of peace with India.

A couple of teams discovered that the locked state of peace with India could be flipped into a locked state of war by declaring war on India's ally. All the team threads and spoilers make very enjoyable and instructive reading, but it is particularly worth reading the Rat Pack's turn log for a demonstration on how to wrest victory from the jaws of defeat following this unexpected turnaround.

As expected, the fastest victories went to the Dominators, but the third place went to a Diplomatic team, and six other diplomatic wins were achieved, including a *very* late run completed today by madviking. Only one team was unable to finish in time for the results publication, and one team suffered a diplomatic defeat.

In view of the high turn-out for this game we decided to award gold, silver and bronze laurels to the fastest three teams, as well as the traditional wooden cutlery set to the lowest scoring finishers. The race for first and second places was very closely fought, with Peanut just reaching the tape ahead of CFR. The Geezers delivered the fastest Diplomatic victory to take third place.

So, to the victors the spoils ....

Please join me in congratulating everyone who participated.

Full results and stats are available here. I will try to extract some more statistics and add them to to the graphs over the next few days.

Congrats to Peanuts, CFR, and Geezers!!! Nicely done!

 I thought to qualify for wooden spoons, you need to win as well. :crazyeye: But Rex and gang need no consolation ... they are probably pretty proud of walking away with a medal

Congratulations to the winners! :goodjob: :hatsoff:

A special congratulations to Team Geezers for the fastest Diplomatic win! Impressive! :worship:

Also a huge thank you to the organizers, we had a blast! :thanx:

@AlanH: You might want to take the 'staff' part out of the link to the full results... ;)

Congratulations to the winners:beer:! And thanks to the organizers, it was very fun to participate!

And I now see why Rex, pholk and Imhotep have turned against competitiveness in CivIV:lol:.

What I find remarkable is that the three winning teams consisted of only a few players who are active in regular CivIV SG's.

Sorry :( Posted them as I rushed out of the door.

Congratulations to the winners. :goodjob:

The competition could use a re-shape.
Knowing early you can't beat other teams
isn't very excited.

Congratulations to the Peanuts!! :goodjob: :goodjob:
And to everyone else for their efforts. Some really  games to read about.

It was a lot of fun and a lot of learning. Thanks to The Staff for their efforts on our behalf.

Congratulations Peanut and haha to the Queen's Men...

And I've got to join the chorus of thankyou's to the staff.

Congratulations to the Peanuts and CFR.:goodjob:

And special thanks to Team Smurkz for making it very exciting to follow whether you would beat us.

And of course a big :thanx: to the organizers.

Well done to everyone! And a big thanks to the organizers. I am happy to see the Chaos team (we decided against playing chaotically, went with reporting chaotically instead) was in the top 10! I will now go back to that trash talking thread and compare results with a few people (you know who you are!).

Congratulations to the Peanuts! It was very exciting to look for your finish as our guys (from civfanatics.ru) prognosed that you can beat us by a negligible margin. :)

And, of course, URA! to the CFR team! :goodjob: Don't stop on this and win the main laurels!;)

Congratulations to all the teams. I'd say that this was a successful first Civ4 SGOTM. Perhaps there should be an announcement of the winners on the main CivFanatics News page? :)

I was trying to look at some of the other settings like total number of cities and noticed they were all zero. Is this still work in progress or a bug?

The menu is a left-over from the Civ3 SGOTM page. I have to work out which of the parameters I can extract, recover them from 666 files (yes, 666, really!), and get them into the database for graphical display on the page.

congrats to the winners of the competition :goodjob:

Congratulations Queen's Men! We all knew you could... Oh wait... Congratulations to Team Peanut!
