Is it possible to link directly to entires in the bug/idea tracker from discussions here? (i.e. - do entries there have unique and referencable URLs?)

Yes they do. Its based off their Idea #.

I think we have discussed it before in the 'Map and Scenario section', but we are looking for someone to essentially... 'champion' the development and continuous updating of the Earth Map - standard size for Caveman2Cosmos.

0000015: Add tabs to the building list to separate categories
Make the building list tabbed, with some basic categorisation. In particular give pseudo-buildings a new category so they show up as 'effects' rather than claiming to be buildings (crime primarily). Categories as a start:

Buildings (most stuff)
Wonders (great wonders and national wonders)
City effects (triggered effects like crime pseudo-buildings)

When rightfuture gets back, and if he wants ill make him Admin of the IdeaTracker , and can catalogize all the ideas along with everyone else. (ill be Sys Admin).

EDIT: There is also a CREATE PERMALInK option in the View Ideas Tab. Im not sure what it does yet.
 
All right guys, I'm back and ready to get the idea stuff into shape. I love ideas.
Ok , here is my basic plan:

1. Yes, to organizing this immediately. I will redo the starting threads in the beginning of this thread, and will post my ongoing results. I anticipate this taking just a day or 2 (health willing) to fit this in. I will start tomorrow.

This has been discussed as part of the "bad things happen" mod. As Afforess said, you can't have big bad things happening in a game because the player will complain that they are being picked on even if they aren't. The "bad things happen" mod was going to be optional so that players could choose to lay with them or not. Extinction events, real meteor strikes, alien invasions, big diseases (what I want not what Hydro and AIAndy want), and so on.

So this one and others should be combined into one mod.

edit there are a number of threads out there where we have discussed and done some work on ideas for C2C but they stalled for some reason. @rightfuture Please look at getting them in your lists. One of these is Cultural Heritage.

I will make sure to peruse all the bad stuff ideas, and include Cultural Heritage. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to organize and do this. I love this idea.

Absolutely, love the idea of the idea tracker. I was tinkering around installing forum software for the last 2 years, so I'm familiar with this type of thing.

@MrAzure, I can help you figure out the permalink. No prob. Hope your 2 days of vacation is also going well.

3. I intend to get this thread organized like the integrating mods thread immediately afterwards. This should take about half - a -day of posting and organizing ideas here, I should have a lot more ideas posted very quickly. I will also spend some time on getting the major ones integrated into the idea tracker. Then working with the idea tracker and this thread will become regular if not daily contributions. Once I achieve this and figure out the best way to organize ideas, I will open this up to everyone's regular contributions.

If you have any organization or grouping ideas for these ideas, like people already have, please keep them coming. It will help me save time, and cut to the chase.

Ok, the typical definition of a permalink is of course:

A permalink (portmanteau of permanent link) is a URL that points to a specific blog or forum entry after it has passed from the front page to the archives

I assume you know that. As to how it works for ideatracker.

It looks like we just have to insert the command
The create permalink automatically creates a short link. A page should be added to show the permalink and optionally allow the user to create a short link.

Ok, the one off the idea tab is to create a specific permalink for one specific bugtracker post.

As the bugs/ideas are sorted dynamically, it is just a non-dynamically changing link to a specific bugtracker post.
Posting outside to the forum would be different.

It certainly would be nice to do it other ways.

Looks like a lot more research,

I know we are probably going to have to just link it. It would be nice to hack a way to display updates in the forum. Maybe it's just my lack of experience in this area. I know it's possible if we could edit the forum code. Permission unlikely.

I love figuring out how to integrate things.

So it does look like it might be possible to display the ideas in the ideatracker. I will have to debate pluses and minuses here.

Probably no for the full list, I'm thinking that most people would be stopped by the login. So displaying and voting on ideas might have to occur in the forum thread.

Tracking them however would be great in the list. Maybe we could export and manually link an excel document. The professional programming guys might know faster than I could figure it out.

I only have 2 years of university level Computer Science, core classes not electives (that I eventually plan on finishing).


I'm going to make a lot more progress listing ideas in this thread and kicking it off, before I am sure they will be better listed their. Following them, absolutely. So some of this thread will be moved.

I will immediately go through and find major set aside ideas / conversations, and will prioritize components for the 'Bad Things happen List' since I was active in the discussion I think we should launch a thread to discuss those ideas collectively. Let do it together (let's pick a time when we both are present) and make it. I propose calling it

C2C - Bad Things Happen - Optional - Collection of controversial ideas.
This is a collection of mod ideas, that some people are opposed to, are controversial, or are too realistic for some people, like real world consequences. Extinction events, real meteor strikes, alien invasions, big diseases, unhealthiness, optional future eras, optional prehistoric eras, certain religious ideas like select your own religion, and other ideas that some people like to play but others don't. These mod ideas will individually be collected here and made optional. They can still be discussed separately if they are big enough, like the unhealthiness mod.

There could be a realism, and brutal realism set or modmods collection as well.

I have updated an including the list in the first post to include a current priority/ working list and a stalled/waiting/ next ideas list.

4. The unhealthiness mod - I like the idea. Plagues had a major impact on history.
5. Reworking the Prehistoric Age. I would love to see the new techs, possible Ice Age start, with blizzards from FFH, and possible splitting up of Prehistoric Eras to match the 'olithic ages.

WOAH, some of these ideas are pretty ambitious. A little suggestion, for the alien invasion, regardless if the alien civ is outright aggressive or benevolent, there should be a +3 relationship boost between all human races. Something like, +3 You are human. So it gives you the opportunity atleast to put differences aside and team up to better face the advanced aliens.

You're absolutely right. I am cataloging all the ideas for C2C I can find, and helping to make a prioritized and organized list right in this thread. The first few posts will be a collection of lists from different places. Like RidetheSpiral23 and everyone else, you can just list the ones you want to see first (that are already on the list). Everything else (all your new ideas) go in the either the ideas/discussions thread and/or the ideatracker (working to integrate the 2, may take a while to get started on that).

It can also go in a topic specific thread, as I will go through those and keep the ideas in order and up to date as possible. (I plan on doing this most days, so I should be able to put in a lot of ideas quickly)

Voting and discussion will make it possible to get good ideas developed quicker. This will help make C2C the best it could ever be!

Too be honest I skimmed the first post to get straight to the ideas so I overlooked the whole voting thing so heres mine.

1. Multi-map
2. Future Eras
3. Alien invasion
4. Bad things

Im really into the realism and by extension difficulty the things like alien invasion and bad things offer. But things like multi-map and future eras offer a lot of satisfying new features to look forward to in more advanced eras. The game mechanics get slightly more complex and varied as you go through the eras. Ancient Era introduces espionage, religions. Medieval Era offers the ability to explore the entire world. Renaissance gives you alliances. Modern era gives you nukes. Little things that slowly give you varied features and abilities as you progress. Its too easy to just go, `You start with a catapult, then get a stronger version of that called a cannon, then a stronger artillery, then rocket artillery, then a super strong future artillery`. But to add brand new capabilities for future eras (multi-map) stays true to the whole progression of eras that other mods seem to lack.
 
OK, so here's the stuff from your lists, RF, that I would like to see the most, from most important downwards:

1- Dig into Rise of Mankind, A New Dawn, C2C and all the combines mods and make a list of all the features. Each feature will have one summarized sentence of what it does.

I know we already have a features page, but I would like to see a more comprehensive and appealing one, one that gave a better perspective on what playing the mod would feel like.

2 - Multimaps.

This just has so many possibilities.

3 - Bad things happen.

As long as they happen to the AI too, and as long as they know how to deal with them ;). I specially like the Flammability/Disease/Crime/Pollution aspects - because they mean that when bad stuff does happen, it won't be a completely random event, but something that you could've avoided, but didn't because it gave you more hammers/beakers/units etc. :)
 
ROF/AND doesn't have nearly as much stuff as C2C so for your first thing i would like to see someone dig into C2C and make a features page on all the stuff we have

Way back before C2C was made Afforess had an ideas for a bunch of civics for RoM/AND. Many of them are already in C2C, however housing has not made it yet. Here is what was proposed ...

i dont thing that State-Owned Land should come so early because only in communism and fascism something like this existed.
for the tribal era there should be an anarchy house civic or a strong takes the best house
