You can post basic Conquests questions in this thread. It will be much easier to separate the plentiful questions from the problems and/or comments that you might have about the game.

Before asking any questions, please refer to this thread.

Does the AI still utilize "Stacks of Death" (SODs)

For new players, this refers to the tendency of the AI to accumulate large numbers of units. When at war, the AI will wander through your territory with stacks of sometimes 50 to 100+ units. Often, when these are stacks of "defensive," like infantrymen, or obsolete units the AI will not attack even though with numerical superority it could easily win.

Have they improved defensive structures like SAM batteries and coastal fortresses?

thanks

I haven't seen any SODs yet, but I did see the AI send spearman 1 at a time in a steady stream deep into my territory. It turned out they were trying to disconnect my horse resource. As soon as one got there it became a promotion opportunity for me.

Actually when the AI sends defensive units inside your territory it is a nasty problem sometimes. I had a war with the Dutch and they sent a few Swiss Mercenaries deep inside my territory to pillage roads connected to resources. The AI uses this strategy a lot.

One way to stop that from happining is have several catapults and bombard the guy the computer is stupid making him go back into his territory and healing.

I saw the French move into my territory with 30+ archers and a...settler. (!?) Turns out they were moving to an empty peninsula where a Massive Uprising camp of barbarians was waiting for them. They weren't going for me, but thirty archers for them (middle ancient era) was pretty good considering their land.

I have a couple questions regarding the new governments. 1) Even with the new secret police HQ, is communism viable ?
2) How Does Feudalism and Fascism stack up ? and 3) how devastating is the 'cons' when choosing feudalism or fascism ?

1. Yes, communism, is one of my favorites to use now. You can get lots of cash using it if you have a big empire, of course.
2 & 3. If you mean how good they are, they are very good. Feudalism has 3 gold per unit upkeep but on the positive side, you don't pay any maintenance for city improvements. With Fascism, your workers are very, very fast. This is probably my favorite thing. :)
The cons for the governments speak for themselves (3 gold per unit for Feudalism). ;)

I tried the new Republic. It's not that bad. Limited support from cities takes the bite out of the 2 gold per unit support cost. :)

While playing the Persians in the rise of Rome (very good scenario!) I noticed that The Celts captured a Greek great leader! He went from Greek light green to celtic dark green and headed off to the nearest Celt city. I was allied with the Celts at the time so I didn't attack him to see if I could capture him. Anybody else seen this?

Also in this scenario, each civ has three traits.

Actually Feudalism does have to pay for maintence.

In fasicm you don't pay maitnence but every time you switch into it your towns lose 1 population, citys lose 2, and metroplisis lose 3.

P.S. I don't have the game yet

I thought you could heal in enemy territory now?

My question: Is this true?

Is it just as effective as healing in your own territory?

Thats right...I get the two confused for some reason.

But still, Feudalism isn't so bad for some games. It all depends on the size of your empire.

ACtually, you have to pay for maintenence for both.

Acording to the info above Fascism should NOT reguire maintence. That must be a bug.

Maybe you should read the entire thread where that was posted originally.
