Never solved this one in CIV3 or PTW, so let me ask here. Short of building the FP in the colonies, is there a way to make colonial cities (ie non-continental) productive? Courthouses don't seem to work as advertised for me.
Nope - such cities are fairly useless. I've had ones just off the coast of my core do OK, but that's about it.
Pre-C3C they had minimal uses: Tie up land to prevent the AI from colonizing, pick up useful resources, potentially grow large and have some scientists contribute to your research efforts.
In C3C they are a little bit less useless due to some new changes: (as of 1.13 at least) corruption caps at 90 instead of 95, plus with any C3C version, you have the benefit of civil engineers and police now.
Anyone have a link to all the benifits for each Civ trait, like which buildings cost less, how agricultural trait works, and all that stuff, sure wish search feature worked on these forums.
I just received Conquests for Christmas and jumped right into it. I have a few questions about changes from patched vanilla. I have been reading the threads for days now and decided asking was better than blindness.
1. Were resource's availability % changed and does it relate to # of civ's being played.
2. Is the Temple of Artemis a bug, in that it removes all built temples when obsolete. I really didn't see a clear answer here.
3. For the SOZ do you need ivory in your resource box or in that city's radius.
4. More of an edit Q- where can I find the info for just changing certain rules without losing the originals and how do I use it...i.e. load scenario.
I appreciate any and all help. My eyes are strained from reading in this forum. I noticed alot of programmers here and hope that I am not the only one ignorant of such knowledge .
Welcome!
1. resources seem to be in shorter supply in C3C.
2. ToA is not a bug. Temples builtt or paid for don't go away, only those generated by the temple
3. You need Ivory in your resource box; build a road.
4 - When you've finished making your changes, do a 'Save-As' and give it a different file name. Then, in the Conquests Main Menu, click on 'Civ-Content'. You can then load the new rules this way. It should be noted that your score will not be recorded in the HoF. It might also be a good idea to make a backup of the original .biq file. Just in case.
@Birdjaguar- thanks, and does anyone else think that the ToA should be like the pyramids? Was any reason given as to why it was written this way. Just a comment, not a complaint.
@turner_727-thanks, most of the posts I read seem contradictory and confused a non-comp like me. I am hoping to get into editing a little for my own sake and this is a start.
Editing can be very fun, and very challenging. I know, I've been doing it since PTW came out. Never very seriously, just a tweak here and a tweak there. I tried adding just one unit, and it all blew up. Because this was a modern unit, I ended up wasting about 40 hours of game play getting there. (I like huge maps) So that kind of disenchanted me to adding units. But I also didn't try and get help here, or in other places. So I would suggest going over to the creation and customization forums, and see what you can learn there. I may try again with Conquests. There are places this game could go. I'm also a HUGE fan of DyP, and I'm waiting on that. I just may stick with Rise and Rule (the new DyP for Conquests), but I may do my own mod.
Back everything up. And don't be afraid to reinstall if you screw something up.
Is it me or are resources more difficult to find? Cause when I last played PTW I had many resources like Iron, Coal etc. but now in C3C I found almost nothing!
In the recent trend.... another editor question (actually several). I d/l a complete mod (a tweaked saverok game) from another thread. The file is a *.bix, and was designed for PTW (is that statement redundant?). Anyhow, when I attempted to play it, Conquests wouldn't recognize it, so I played the scenario through the bundled PTW. However, the scenario is designed to have 12 civs, yet I could only play the game with 8 of them. Is there a way to expand the number of players, or must I choose which 8 (of the 12) to play with? In case it matters, it was a multiplayer game.
Second q: I wish to revise some of the map features in the scenario, but I can't seem to find an editor that will recognize the file -- neither the vanilla civ editor nor the conquests editor will recognize it. I have been unable to find a PTW editor on the conquests cd (I do not have the original ptw -- only the included files on conquests). Is there someway of altering the scenario, or am I locked out? Thanx in advance.
