When I have played Conquest, the technology slider seems to have no effect. I cannot get the techs to be researched quicker. After about the third or fourth tech, each taking 50? turns, suddenly I am able to quicken the research. I get lots of gold, but man, this is difficult. Anyone else have that problem? I have the latest patch, and hoped that would help but no dice. Help!

maximum research time has been increased from 40 to 50 turns in C3C. Since the first couple techs are researched when you have little to no roads for extra commerce, you might want to consider using just 10% and taking the 50 turns.

First of all, welcome to CFC!

In Conquest it is still possible to get techs in 4 turns.
Build more roads (increased commerce), build libraries etc., change government (republic and democracy get commerce bonus), build courthouses in cities a bit further away and so on...

Oh yeah, and build more cities...
So the tech slider is not broken...

I am a Civ vanilla owner trying to figure out the cheapest way to upgrade to C3C. Do I need to buy gold edition, or can I buy PTW instead? (Pretty cheap new on e-bay) Does GE have anything in addition to CivIII & PTW? Is PTW a stand-alone game or just an expansion? Do I even need PTW for C3C? (Though I would prefer to have it...) Thanx anyone for answering these questions...I've searched for hours trying to figure this out...

Just buy Conquests. :) Conquests has all the content that PTW did, and then some. You don't need to buy the Gold Edition, as that's just Vanilla (which you already have) and PTW (which is included in C3C.)

Don't forget the patches!

If you don't mind waiting, they were selling Conquests last Xmastime for $9.99!.....Now, that's CHEAP! ;)

(I found out by watching the Home Page right HERE!....then bought a few for my friends!....try www.amazon.com.)

Welcome to CFC, Fealuinix. :band:

Hey, thanks. And I do mind waiting that long, especially since I can buy it for only $10 more right now.

can anyone explain the "sentry" command that I see for pratically every unit?

Thanks.

is there any way to get unplayable computer civs to be playable by humans, for example Poland in the Middle Ages Scenario, thanks

Sentry would be the same as fortify EXCEPT it wakes up on your turn when another civs unit ends its turn next to the sentried unit.

You're welcome :)

IIRC, that isn't true, because sentried units don't get the fortification bonus.

I have been trying to download Roads with Enhanced Buildings pcx file but the link doesnt seem to work. Do you know where I might find this file? Thanks

Any unit recieving the fortify bonus has a white outline around the hit point bar. Sentried units have this feature and was confirmed by one of the developers at one time. Sea units never get the fortify bonus.

These fora are too @#$%! long! I just can't spare the time to wade through thousands of posts on the outside chance that this thread has answers to my particular question. If I am asking something that a billion others have already asked, forgive me.

1) What's up with the new "stealth attack" ability? How does it work? Is there a tech I need? Is it only available to some units? Is it just not set to work in the "main" game but maybe only in some conquests or mods?

2) I have seen several mentions to changes made in the civ traits from PTW and vanilla Civ, but can find no good information about what they are. Any help?

Thanks for your assistance,

1) No tech needed, it's a unit flag. That flag would let you choose a specific target out of a stack before you attack. Subs have it in the main game, making them much more valueable than in vanilla/PTW. So your sub would not automatically attack the best defender in a stack, but you'd rather want to sink an important target like a transport or an already damaged aircraft carrier. If you attack a stack with a sub, you get a prompt/list to pick your target. The downside (or maybe a minor bug) here is that you would not get informed about the number of HPs which may be problematic in case there's more units of one kind in the enemy stack with a differerent number of HPs.

2) Carthage is now seafaring/industrious, Iroquois are commercial/agri, England is seafaring/commercial, Spain is seafaring/religious, Aztecs are militaristic/agri - that's what I recall from the top of my head
Industrious trait has been weakened, workers now need 75% (instead of 50%) of the base turns to complete a job

Sorry, I was not very clear with question 2. I have read in several different places that the effects of some traits have changed. I did know that Industrious workers had been slowed. I've also seen references to changes to Scientific and Expansionist, but no actual indication of how/what. Have the other traits been changed, and if so, how.

As to stealth attack, I've played several short games and never recieved a prompt to "stealth attack" with a unit. I am assuming that it's only available with certain units, and they're not available in the ancient & middle ages. Either that or I am really thick.

I heard a while back that either in Conquests, or PTW (I bought them at the same time, so I don't quite know what additions are from which expansion), that there would be a way to have some sort of continental rallying point for all the troops. (i.e. pick a point and all troops on the continent will head there.)

Is this for real? And if so, how doers it work?

Thank you.

How is the food, shield and commerce production of the base city square computed? I checked a Mayan late game I have and my cities on hills, deserts and plains are producing mostly the same thing. The only difference is an additional gold for those close to a river.
