Its funny because when I first saw some pics about CIV3 conquests,I think it was I thought it was horrible. All I looked at was the screens and a few videos and I really didn't understand how it worked with those dotted lines but once I played the demo it really came clear how great this game is.

Oh and a quick question, how many people does one unit represent?

Dunno - I like to think that a unit represents a battalion. This doesn't make any sense in the early game of course, but seems realistic in the industrial and modern age.

The discussion on how many units a single unit represents would constitute a thread in its own right. Everyone looks at it differently. Personally, i just look at it as one unit and don't worry about how many individual units it represents.

Population in the cities vary from city to city even with the same # of citizens. It isn't a set amount and is probably a randomly picked # within a range for that city. Last time i looked anyway.

Also, it's on an exponential scale... in the very young days of a city, each population point added represents only a few thousand extra people in the city. When a city gets to extreme-metropolis size (25-30+), each population point represents several hundred thousand to a million or so people. ;)

Can anyone tell me how a city with one citizen, with no roads, existing only 2 turns dump out 6 units? They did not come from another city unless they flew in in 20AD. Of course the city did not belong to me.

@scloopy: What level are you playing?

Remember, the AI gets free units at the higher levels! ;)

For example, at Emperor Level, the AI gets 4 free defensive units + 2 offensive units, at the beginning of the game! ;)

On a re-read, I guess you're not talking about the beginning of the game!

Is it a respawned AI Civ city per chance? ;)

I am playing on Monarch level.
It is the Rise of Rome one.
I also seem to be at war all the time off and on with each of the other civs. I can man peace on occasion with everyone but Carthage. I am winning but it is a grind in this game. :(

This not the first time I have noticed that the problem.
When the AI builds a new city does it start with extra units.

What is the difference among each of the difficulties? Does the computer get advantages (more units, cheaper units, etc.) Or does it get smarter?

When do they start to get cheaper production, right after the beginning difficulty or is the beginning level the only time you are equal with the computer?

No. The AI does not get extra units for founding a city. The extra units must be coming along with the settler or close behind it.

I saw the settler and a defensive unit when the city was built as I had a unit in the adjacent square. Two turns later my one unit was joined by 3 more and on the thrid turn I attacked. Imagine my surprise when they had multiple defensive units in the city. It is strange that I supposedly can only see for two squares around me, but during the turns of the other civs I can see things four and five squares away (sometimes only half of the battle or rather one side). I guess I should just quit wondering and enjoy the game.

Unfortunately the AI is not very smart in the first place! :mischief:

There is an info center at CFC for Difficulty Levels 1-6:

Ok, I won two of a civs cities in exchange for peace. I want to gift them back to soothe things over, should I wait a turn? I figure I might need to wait a turn in order for the AI to see them as mine and really appreciate the effort, or does it not make a difference?

Does the experience level of a boat effect its sinking chances? Is a expert boat any less likely to sink then a average one?

Are you sure that's wise? Unless the cities are absolutely useless to you (far from the capital, hopelessly corrupt, surrounded by the enemy's culture and will soon flip), then it's better to keep them.

No idea on your actual question, though...

I don't think so. It's the same chance for EVERY boat of one type (eg, Galley). ;)
