Yes, you're right superslug, that 3-food City Tile DOES make a substantial difference in the game, especially in the early stages!........glad you pointed that out. :)

3. Yes, I think superslug may well be CORRECT to be infatuated with the Mayans using Conquests but remember the advantage on getting more food on a desert tile may NOT be an OVERWHELMING benefit, albeit a GOOD one, as in the "End-Game" position, you probably don't "need" desert tiles as you can get to the Domination Limit with Grassland-pure, Grassland-Jungle, Plains, Plains-Jungle, Floodplains & Coast-Sea combos! ;)

I'm also infatuated with the Mayans and agree with you about the Desert advantage in the milking phase but for the first 200 turns the Desert tiles allows unrestricted expansion in any direction. At worst in the end game a desert tile is really a Plains tile.

Excellent Points! :goodjob:

Thanks for the reply's folks. As an update to my Egyptian game at 10Ad my score is 490 - Bremps 503, but I have almost 200 tiles more territory under my rule than Bremp and the score is lower bec. I am still churning out settlers.
The domination limit in this game is just over 3900, and I must admit that I spent a lot of time, (or at least the computer did);) ,generating a good start. My first two cities both had two cattle each, and like Bremp I popped a settler soon after the start and so had two cities set up from 3700bc.
Eman : Yes the egyptians are great. Reasons I chose them?

1. Industrious
2. War chariots - a fairly useless unit on other levels but I wanted them for the simple reason that I wanted to choose the exact time for my GA - which was going to be as soon as I switched to Republic but that didn't happen as a GL who built the Pyramids triggered it instead.
3. one turn gov. changing is great but combined with switching back to despotic and pop rushing 100+ Temples its awesome!
4. Cleopatra is the best looking Babe in the game - Period!:goodjob:

Eman: I didn't bother with RCP in this game bec. I was going to jump my palace anyway but its over 10ad now and my settler has only just arrived at the far side of the cotinent so by the time i'm set for the jump my encroaching horde of settlers will be getting closer to the palace than the FP, oh well. This leads me to believe that on lower levels, unlike Sirplebs game for instance, the slow AI growth and greater happiness of the populace, make using the RCP and Rank exploits not so crucial or even desirable. This bodes well for Conquests, when all the little bugs are ironed out, of course.
I also usually play at diety level and can win there most of the time so this is a welcome breather.
Can someone please tell me how to insert a picture into forums - i'm new to the internet - less than a week - and never used it before. Yes I know I have been living in the dark ages, but am making up for lost time reading posts for hours.
I have played 100's of hours of civ but in just a few hours have learnt more than what I would have ever discovered by myself.

What a great site :band:

P.S. Sorry if I rambled on a bit;)

Since I just went through this, I can tell how it's done.

1. Use the Print Screen button on your key board. This will save the screenshot on your clipboard. Then paste the screenshot onto a paint or photoshop program. From there you can edit and save it as a jpg file.

2. You need to upload the screen shot onto this board. You can do this from the screen at the bottom right in the last row of links.

3. Finally, you use the link for your uploaded file in the IMG button at the top of the reply screen.

That will put the screenshot on your post. You can also use the http:// button to just add a link to your screenshot.

Thanks Svar, sounds complicated but am sure i will get the hang of it before civ4 comes out!
