Calendar bug on regular version

On Lubuntu 18.04, using Steam with Proton 3.16-9:

I have Civ 4 without expansions and have the Calendar bug that causes the game to stay stuck zoomed out with a black starry screen. I've tried following this: https://unix.stackexchange.com/ques...turns-into-a-black-screen-after-revealing-map

It hasn't helped. As soon as the calendar is researched the screen gets stuck.

Does anyone know how to overcome this bug?

If upgrading to BTS fixes it I may do that.

I don't have an answer nor have I ever seen this happen. However, it sounds more like an issue to ask about in the Technical Support forum, rather than in the Bug subforum. I think that you have a better chance of getting replies there than here.

I actually requested that this be moved over there a little while ago. A mod will take care of it soon I'm sure
