Can a man be punished for another's crime, a son for his father's?

No, it makes you a heritic! *gasp* A heritic!!! Get him!! *Pulls out a Katana* :mwaha:. After I am done with my tea :coffee:.

(Note: That statement is just an e-joke :joke: )

Christians (From a Catholic point of View) can only go to hell if they are not in a state of grace. However, from my take on warpus's statement, he is merely referance in commiting apostasy in the minutes before your death out of Christianity (Note: Apostasy is a mortal sin).
And Christ's death doesn't forgive mortal sins? Or is Christ not competent enough to forgive sins which you haven't specifically asked to be forgiven for?

Christ won't forgive the sins of those who don't seek forgiveness. He will forgive the sins of those who do (except those who commit what Mormons consider the "unforgivable sin", but no one you know is even capable of that), but such forgiveness is not always without cost.

Just curious but what is the unforgivable sin?

A sin thats unforgivable sounds very unchristian.

The sin itself is, yes, un-Christian.

The LDS view is that the unforgivable sin is to have a certain knowledge of God and then to reject or deny Him. It is not enough to be devout, or even have blind faith, one must pretty much have met God directly and then willfully reject Him. To be able to commit this sin one must first be righteous enough to have seen God directly, so Hitler and Stalin are out. We aren't sure about Judas.

So since most athiests (rather probably NOBODY) has met "god", does that mean athiests can be saved in mormonism assuming christianity was right?

Surely you can never be certain that the entity you just encountered is God. Aren't there stories of the Devil tempting people in the Bible?

Well, we use the word "saved" to mean about 4 different things. At minimum, we will all be resurrected and in the end liberated from sin, and live in eternal happiness (except the "Sons of Perdition", what we call those who commit the unforgivable sin). But there are much higher degrees of salvation.

Those who really meet God will generally actually be sure. Those who just thought they met God (but didn't really) and then reject Him aren't being very smart anyways.

I hate the concept. That doesn't mean I don't believe in it.

First of all, why is that an illegitimate motivation? I'd bet at least half the reason people don't rob banks is because they know they'd probably get caught. That certainly influences my decision making, but it is hardly the be all and end all - I believe in Christ because I believe He is goodness and love
Speaking about consequences of robbing banks and not asking for forgiveness of your sins are two different things. One is real and the other is not.
