So I went in to a "game" school to check out there game art and design program. I can't draw, as a matter a fact I have bad hand writing. I keept hearing my "non commision ...my ass" recruiter say "you've never had a drawing class before don't worry" .

It's a nice school 20 hours a week in class, 4 to 1 classes in game art to regular college classes, school gets updated computers every quarter 2,000$ moniters etc etc.

You start out the first year and a half with drawing and then move into the maya,C++,unreal engine type of pc design stuff.

So my question is can anyone learn to draw?

....I just bought drawin for dummies and a few other books, I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, anyone can learn to draw, much in the same way as anyone can learn to play the piano or drive a car (physical limitations notwithstanding). NOT everyone can become an artist though, that is up to you...

I agree compleatly.

My handwriting isn't very good, but I can draw :D

Drawing is learnable by anyone. It's all about observation of your environment if you're drawing in that way, or the retention of that information and other tricks if you're drawing conceptually.

I sure as hell can't.

I took six months of an art class, paid attention, gave it my all, never slept during session, and still I learned absolutely nothing about how to draw.

I don't think everyone can learn to draw. It depends on your motor skills, your reflexes, your observation, etc...

But I think everyone can learn to make art. For example, if you can't draw, there's always photography. If you aren't a visual person, try music. Etc...

Anyone can draw, just that for some it will be harder than others.

And then others may believe their work is utter crap even if it's good. So they don't think they can draw.

One of my biggest pet peeves, actually.

Yes, anyone can draw. It does take time, and for some it comes more naturally than others. Just persevere, take your time and don't ever think that any of your work is rubbish - it's all part of the learning curve and the way to developing your own style.

It's great to see that you're going to an art class, I'm still toying with the idea of getting some sort of formal training in art. Most of my stuff has been developed over many years, despite failing art in school :p

I learned to draw better by being made to draw people upside down, draw roses, and other pointless crap in my ARCHITECTURE class. Jesus Christ I hate SIU.

No wonder 50% drop out in the first year, damnit no one draws anymore, nor do architectus have to draw people sitting in chairs upside down!

I think that anyone can learn to draw with practise. I got alot better at drawing cartoons after reading a book which demostrated a process of building a picture.

That said, some people I think have a natural flair for it.

Sure, you just have to practice unloaded enough until you can do it safely. Most people don't keep their muzzle discipline at first, and a few can't seem to keep their finger off the trigger until they're pointed toward the target, but in the end everyone can do it safely, if somewhat slowly.

Ask IglooDude

Dear Mr. IglooDude,

My girlfreind and I are running into some, err... bedroom problems. I think the problem may be on my end, if you catch my drift. Any advice?

(PS, sorry for the threadjack :mischief: )
