Would it be possible that whenever a unit attacks it would cost some money to the attacking civ ,like if you would attack with pike's it would cost 5 gold ,with cavalery 25 gold... ? (for exampel)

And so when youre money reserves are depleted ,you could not attack?

That would not be very realistic. It costs money to maintain an army in the field, but it generally doesn't cost extra to acctually attack. Unless you plan to give your army danger pay.

Well actually it was ment to make the maintainants of units financially possible
(and this is for a middle age scenario ,so in that time i guess it was realistic)

anyway ,the question is not if it is realistic ,but if it's possible.
And how would you do it?

You could have several change money events which take away money each time one of your units destroys an enemy unit or is destroyed by an enemy unit.
Thedirk, this is a good idea as it does cost money to fight - a military unit in action requires a much greater supply of supplies and manpower then one in baracks does. Also, these days soldiers do get 'danger pay' when they're in hostile regions. For example, Australian soldiers in East Timor got over $A100 dollars more more then they recieved when based in Australia.

I think it just drops to zero.

Trouble with using events is you can't set which of your units does the killing. You can only set it by what they killed - meaning its more like a bounty reward then support costs.

Another way (which is no better) that I've been toying around with is to charge a 'discovery' fee. e.g. When you discover space cruisers, you loose 5 credits per turn and you get poorer and poorer as you get more weapon types - forcing you to research future tech or other namby pamby advances instead of weapons till you have the supporting infrastrucutre.

it would seem that if you payed every time you fought then you would have to make a lot of money in taxes. you would have to be as rich as the U.S. to fight a civil war or a little skirmish. and i'm not really sure if its possible.

In my experiance, when events cause your money to fall below zero, the game starts selling off city improvements.
