I have Civilization 3, and I am trying to use it on a Mac. I put the CD into my computer, it shows up on the desktop, and I double click; It shows me a bunch of file, but doesn't know how to open any of them. I am sorry if I am asking a stupid question, or not supplying enough information, but I am not very tech savvy. :p Here is a screen shot:

Thanks sooo much, and if you need any additional information, please ask, and I'll do my best! :)

.dll .exe, hmm!

You know, you have to use the Mac port, published by Aspyr, (or the old version by Macsoft, But I recommend C3C by Aspyr)

The version that works for under WindowsOS doesn't work on the Mac. Its not a Blizzard game, unfortunately...

Hello, welcome :wavey:

MAS is correct. The CD you are trying to use is a Windows one. There are, however, two ways you can go from here:

1) Buy a copy of the Mac version from Aspyr, called Civilization III Complete.

2) If you have an Intel-based Mac (i.e. any new Mac bought in the last several months) you could install BootCamp (from Apple), or the latest Parallels Desktop release candidate (from Parallels), plus Windows. Either would allow you to install your Windows version of Civ3.

Thanks so much, to both of you!
I do have a question though. Are either of these programs (BootCamp or Parallels) free? I don't really have much money to spend at the moment. Thanks so much for all the help!

Bootcamp is currently free from Apple. It's a beta test version, but pretty stable. You do need a separate hard drive partition, but I believe the software will allow you to create this on your existing hard drive without a reformat. I guess there is a danger that the beta will expire when the full version is released with Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) later this spring.

Parallels Desktop is a 30 day trial version. After 30 days you have to pay them $80 to keep it.

Both options require a full copy (not an upgrade) of Windows. Bootcamp will only install Windows XP SP 2. Parallels will install any Windows version, I believe. I've run 98se successfully, but I think XP is favourite and that's what I run now.

What sort of Mac do you have?
