"Cannot locate settings folder" Help

I know there is probably a Help thread for the BUG mod, but I cant find it and the mod seems used widely, so I hope posting here isn't a problem.

Anyway, I just downloaded the BUG mod, and whenever I start the game I get a message reading: "BugOptions - Cannot locate settings folder"

This prevents me from seeing any events (I haven't played enough to see if it effects anything else, but it probably does)
If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't seen an error quite like that one, but I suspect it may be related to UAC, if you are running Vista+. It also could simply be a bad install - maybe in part due to UAC as well.

Which option did you use to install? MP(standalone)? SP(CustomAssets)?

Not sure the above matters though either way, except as part of the instructions to a solution. However, you could try this:

1) Go to the root Firaxis folder (or 2KGames if Complete version) under Programs [Programs(86)]>Right Click>Properties>Security Tab> Edit Button>Click on every option and set to "Full Control". Do this regardless.

2) See if that helps. Otherwise uninstall/re-install BUG. Delete the BUG folder in Mods if MP, or delete your Custom Assets folder if SP. Right click on BUG install executable and choose "Run As ADministrator" from right click context menu.

3) Also, find your BTS executable>Right click on it> Properties>Compatibility> Click check box for "Run this program as Administrator"

Lastly, of course, make sure you are in BTS Patch 3.19. If none of that help, then report your issue to the BUG team in the forum I provided above.

Also, make sure when reporting/asking about an issue that you provide your specs such as OS, BTS version, any other mods you might have installed or running. BUG won't work with other standalone mods or delivered BTS scenarios unless you specifically re-engineer those mods.

I tried the first and third one with no success, I'll try uninstalling it. Do you know if there is supposed to be a "settings" folder? Maybe I'm missing it for some reason?

Probably is but you would not have to worry about it if it installed correctly

You never answered the question whether you installed MP or SP

If you installed it without problems in CustomAssets, there should be a BUG Mod folder in your BTS folder in the Documents folder, same place as the Saves and CustomAssets folders. Within the BUG Mod folder there should be two "settings" folders called "UserSettings" and "GameSetUpCheck". If either one is missing, then BUG Mod did not install properly and you will need to reinstall it. Although I have not installed it as a Mod in the game Mod folder, most likely those two should be there as well.

Hmm, I seem to only have the "UserSettings" folder and am missing "GameSetUpCheck." I'll uninstall it and try again.

On my third try, it finally worked! Thanks to you both for your help, this mod looks great! I just wonder what I was doing wrong..
