Cannot select leader animation

EDIT: Original problem solved, but still cannot change leader quality to above low.

The game has defaulted to no leader animations, even though my computer could easily cope with leader animations. But, I am unable to change to anything other than low animation quality, because the slider which allows leader quality selection goes off the bottom of the page, making it impossible to select medium or high leader animation quality.

I don't know if there is a general bugs thread I should have posted this in, but I just thought I'd mention it, because low-quality Barbarossa with glowing orange beard is not a pretty sight, and that fact he doesn't even speak bothers me also.

EDIT: Solved this by switching the display from full-screen to a window, allowing me to see the options which were previously off the bottom of the page.

Switching leader quality to high has not changed anything- I'm still seeing the same awful looking leaders that were displayed when low-quality was selected. Even when I restart the game, nothing changes. Cleopatra looks especially awful- there is an object sticking through her head. For now I'll have to revert to no leader animations. I suppose I could try seeing if starting up a new game changes anything.

I haven't tried it out myself, but someone here posted in a similar thread about horrible looking leaders. The solution was in enabling shadows.

So starting a new game changed nothing. Also, Gandhi looks so bad that Cleo and Barbarossa look amazing- he is literally entirely yellow. I suppose I could try changing to medium leader quality.

Hasn't helped. Neither has switching to medium leader quality. Basically, regardless of what I select, leader quality remains on low. Gilgamesh looks almost okay, but he doesn't speak or even move his limbs. He just stands there and bobs up and down a bit as with the other leaders.

So essentially:
- Configuration menus are poorly designed- drop down menus can extend off the screen.
- Low leader quality is awful- worse even than it needs to be I'm sure.
- I'm unable to switch to other leader quality settings.
- Right now, static leader pictures is the best option for me.

So, reading around there are a good number of glitches in the game right now. But no one else seems to be having the same problems I am here.

Still, I can't see any reason why anything on my end could be causing problems. I'd really appreciate it if devs in general went back to testing games prior to release, instead of being completely reliant on feedback from consumers. Yeah, sure you can always wait a while till glitches are ironed out, but the problem is its easy to get hyped about something and not make a logical decision- as is encouraged by devs pushing for pre-ordering, and making out the release of games like this to be some massive event with fancy trailers and promos, but in reality the release date is more akin to a beta launch, by no means the end product.

I noticed for my setup it also defaulted to "no leader animation" which is peculiar as the game runs very well on high settings (GeForce GTX 960M in my laptop).

Exact same problem. However leaders are alr laggy at low so I turned it off.

Hey, I had the same problem, but I fixed it when I chose all graphical settings to max, and after I just tweaked the ones that I wanted turned off or lower. But leader high quality, eats a lot of frames, so I reverted back to low. Alas, I played with disabled at first also, and the leaders appeared fine, just a picture of them, but other then that no strange orange\purple stuff. I would advise you guys to update your video drivers.

PS: Also I'm curious if you experienced same issue at me, on the diplomacy screen, after you get the discuss option... take a look at the image below, see that my gossip panel doesn't display, it's too small and all intel info is, as such, unobtainable (before the discussion option appearing due to gandhi settling near my city, the information displayed there was readable, but still it was a very small tab with just two or three lines displayed at a time, had to scroll down to read it all, adding this as I've also noticed on other people's machines it is well displayed with 15-20 lines in the respective tab). Can't play for now, I'm Cathrine and I need my little birdies :) .

Also posted this issue on two other threads, but didn't got a response as of yet.

Yes, I've now come across that problem too. I also can't scroll down the research options- I have to enter the tech tree to choose technologies.

There must be something wrong with the way Firaxis programmes these leader animations. Lazy programming or something, because there is no way that playing what is essentially just a collection of video clips should be this demanding on performance.

Those aren't video clips, they're animated whenever they're played. That means the engine has to render lightning, etc.

Not sure what's with the performance problems though.

Regarding this issue you have experienced, again, it is strange, for my leader quality was saved after changing only that between low and high I couldn't see any difference in quality, just in performance and I left it on low, it's quite decent, and I enjoy it so. Also a little interesting thing that I've discovered int he game files while searching for the codes behind the diplomacy screen is this message "embedded" in those actual game files, which is a developer memo note for other developers, and actually on the gosip screen :) I don't understand to much from it but I think I have the actual lines which cause the problem:

<!-- ATTN TRON/KEN: I think we may have a bug here - parent needs to be re-evauluated whenever we GetInstance on the instance manager. -->
<!-- When an instance is passed into a function, it incorrectly evaluates the parent width as the full width of the screen, instead of its current parent. -->
<!-- Until this is addressed, I am going to hard-code the width of the gossip entry as (295) so that I can continue.-->
<Instance Name="IntelGossipHistoryPanelEntry">
<Grid ID="Background" Texture="Controls_GossipBubble" Size="295, 37" Anchor="L,C" SliceCorner="18,18" SliceTextureSize="36,37">
<Label ID="GossipText" WrapWidth="265" Offset="17,0" Style="TextButtonStyle" Anchor="L,C" String="???"/>
<Label ID="NewIndicator" String="[ICON_New]" Anchor="R,T" Hidden="1"/>
</Grid>
</Instance>

No, what I said was that they were essentially just video clips (in that they don't really do anything playing a video clip couldn't), not that they literally were. They're not dynamic, and there isn't even a smooth transition between animations. There is a looping animation (which is too obviously repetitive due to the overdone movements- Civ V leaders had less obviously animation loops due to their more subtle movements) where the leader just stands there and bobs up and down a bit, and then the screen blacks out before a different animation plays (which was again better in Civ V, where there was a seamless transition between the main loop animation and the special animations) on a limited number of occasions- when you meet civs, when you declare war, when you declare friendship, etc.

I don't understand to much from it but I think I have the actual lines which cause the problem:

Can anyone here explain what is going on with these interface problems?

I hate Gandhi. I resurrected him at the end of the game when I liberated his capital from China as he had originally been destroyed at around turn 50, before I even had a chance to encounter him. But as with my last game, he looks like 'That Yellow Bastard' from Sin City, and his agenda is 'Nuke Happy'- I've noticed other people mention that this is frequently his agenda.

OMG, ok that's strange (the leader image). On my playtrough he is also nuke-happy, hell of a secret agenda, I really thought that I was lucky to get such a strange combination, but if this is preselected to generally accour, then I officialy have a thumbs down :nono: for the devs.

Yes, it's preselected, Gandhi has nuke-happy as "favored" secret agenda in the table.
Not sure how much that increases the likelihood of that agenda being selected though. There's limits to how many Civs can have a specific agenda - for some agendas at least - so maybe it's guaranteed it it's available.

Nope. All you read is speculation about timing. When Firaxis is ready to announce a patch release (or just releases a patch with no pre-announcement), they will do so.
