My husband and I play on an MBP and iMac on the same wifi network in the house. But recently, we can't see each other through the game setup. We can chat through Steam, so the network itself is fine. We have never seen the first instance of an Internet game.

Are there other details that would help diagnose the problem?

Hello. Welcome :wavey:

From your message, it sounds as if this used to work but has stopped working. Is this the case?

I'm no expert, but you should be able to see the game host directly via the LAN. Are you selecting Local Network, not Internet in the Multiplayer menu, and do you have two different Steam IDs?

The Mac version can only play other Macs, so it's quite unlikely that you will see an Internet game at random, You probably need to set one up deliberately by scheduling an arrangement with another Mac user. There's a sticky thread for that in this forum.

I'm not really tech support, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is to make sure that both computers are running the same version of Civ 5. Compare the version numbers at the bottom of the main menu. If they're different, that'd explain it.

Seems to have been a crazy firewall issue. We'd been playing just fine for months, then suddenly it didn't work. After hunting up and down the past few days, today, OSX gets around to asking 'hey, got this connection request, do you want it?'

Stupid computer.

I just wish I had some idea what disallowed the connection, and then just as randomly, came back around and got it cleared up.

Thanks for the input, folks.
