March 2025 Update Livestream - join us live on March 24!

Ed was like you our team carefully picked historical names but you can rename them funny stuff too... brother in Christ I just want to rename them fitting names after I switch from Rome to being the Abbasid or something
My wife always rename cities based on their function - resources nearby, etc.

it's very funnel like as of right now instead of a proper tree
I read that as "funeral" and honestly... Still worked.

Should be an improvement, but I'm still not sure how much it'll improve my desire to play modern... I guess I'll find out tomorrow!

I continue to be irritated by the unapologetic "we're working on it" attitude of the developers. The game released more than a month and a half ago and there is basic functionality that is still off at some unspecified point in the future. This is not some indy developer working on a product in Early Access... but they seem to feel entitled to behave as if that's the case. It is vexing... I am vexed.

Any modern developer not independent of a publisher is handed these cards. I feel like Firaxis is doing well these last couple months after the launch.

Didn’t they say that economic victory costs more too? Factory prices were doubled etc…
They did say something to that effect, though the prices listed made no sense (unless they were multiplayer speed prices).

I still don't see them increasing the length of economic by more than the science changes would increase science - especially since you really need factories for both. 25% extra science costs means 25% more researching to do, since you need the whole tree, versus getting your 5th and 6th factories up few turns later, in effect.

However coal and oil resources now actually do something (hopefully they will work as intended) and should help bringing the actual production costs closer to the previous ones. Huge nerf to gold buying though (which was my go to strategy, so sad).
Let's hope they fixed incense in exploration too!

Edit: @pjotroos those are production costs, not gold.

Not a fan of increased tech costs in Modern. It just widens the gap between Economic and Science victory even further. Good chance for Domination, though.

Actually all 3 peaceful victory types were pished further. Science with late science costs, cultural with late civic cost (as you need Hegemony), economic - by railroad and factory costs.

Let's see how it goes.

I get that, and we'll have to see what the full changelist is in the patch tomorrow. Hopefully they at least get through all the bugs from the community bugfix mod, those should be the priority features.

What would you rather they do instead? Broadcast in sackcloth and ashes??

Those are production prices, not gold. Gold cost will increase by the same scale.

I assume one of the functions of new resources is to replace coal and oil in their previous role.
