Capture city options

Ok I'm not a new player of civ 4 I had to reinstall the game on a laptop I got. I got the game installed and started playing a game and when I went to war and captured a city the only options I had was raze or install a new governor never had the option of seeing what was in the city first I forgot how I got that option on the other version I had installed on my desktop computer can someone help.

The option to view the city came with Beyond The Sword. If you are playing the original version or the Warlords version, it won't be there. BTS 3.19 also does not require the disc to be in a drive. If you are playing BTS, then something is not installed properly. (It may also be that the option came with an update to BTS, which would be another reason to be sure that you have version 3.19 installed.) If you are using BTS 3.19, then it may be that the option is part of BUG Mod. I have played so many years with BUG Mod installed that I may have forgotten that the option was not there without it. BUG Mod only improves the UI, without changing game play.

Thanks for your reply my version is 3.17 so i need to update to version 3.19 it won't let me do it from the game so i think there is a way on the forums i will find it

The ingame update no longer works because the company no longer supports such an "old" game. However, you should be able to find the upate in the downloads section of the CIV forum.

I tried the downloads in the forums none of them worked unless I'm doing something wrong I'm put the have on a windows 7 laptop the game runs good I just miss having that 3.19 version of the game, maybe there is a way to get the 3.19 files from my other desktop pc that has the 3.19 version

Just to be clear, are you using disk version or some download version? If downloaded, where?

The first sticky in the tech forum should have a working link, as well as some helpful instructions. (Unfortunately, I can’t link you to it on my phone)

Actually tested those links from that thread once I got onto my computer, and they are all bad now. I think I found a good link to the patch here:

The patch can be found using Google, but CFC should find a good place to keep a copy.

Always make sure you run any install file using the "Run As Administrator' option. The BTS executable properties should be changed to that as well.

thanks for your reply i did what you said and updated my direct x then it worked
