Caveman 2 Cosmos

You can make a shortcut so it loads c2c without having to load normally then restart, and then make it run in administrator via the shortcut.
This is my shortcut target, just change it to wherever your civ is located.
"E:\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Caveman2Cosmos

Can also (as an alternative that is) put it in your INI file, which should be in 'My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/CivilizationIV.ini'. Edit to include:

Code:
; Specify a Mod folder, '0' for none
Mod = Mods\Caveman2Cosmos

First off, thx for trying this great mod.:D

Here is a head about Tips and Tricks, i hope that is what your looking for.

Cool! I'll go post some early questions there. :)

Play on snail speed, anything else is just too fast for this mod.
If you start the game on deity prepare to have your butt whooped because the AI starts with two cities, and you cannot build another one for a looong time if you start on prehistoric.

Thanks for the speed thought. Played a first game that way until my death. A bit slow, but it did feel right, up until the early Ancient Age anyway when I was thrashed. And deity?! I was never more than a Monarch/Emperor player, no danger of that!

On your first game start on Monarch or so with flexible difficulty on. That way you won't have the huge starting disadvantage of AI double cities (while you're learning the mod - and the START especially is WAY different), but it will ramp up to diety fairly fast if you do ok.

Did that. Well, flexible starting on Prince anyway. Died just as I ticked over to Emperor. Fun, fun!

Thanks so much for your help, but neither of those really work for me. The filename for my BtS folder is too long, so I get the error message "no valid mod directory". And I do want to play other mods as well, so specifying caveman as default is not what I want either.

However, everything is well. After I chnaged the game's language to English, everything went smooth.

Sorry to bother you guys

Hi! and thanks for this awesome uber modpack!:D

One question:

is the SVN playable or you suggest to play the v16 release? you know.. i'm a "patch freak", always seeking for the most recent updates to everything :P

Thanks in advice!

If you're up for occassional disruption I'd encourage you to go for the SVN and keep it fairly up to date. It gets errors occassionally, but by and large it's better (and a better indiocation of where we are going with the mod) and has more value for testing feedback to us (if you don't mind acting as a tester)

Edit - if you do go the SVN route be sure to keep an eye on the SVN thread as most likely that's where new changes or issues with the current rev are likely to be discussed

The SVN currently has a few errors dealing with Subdue Animals, so you might want to hold off till later today, when DH gets back up and running.

Allright :D

Since i've just started (before reading this) i've only noticed that there is a sort of "lag" when selecting and manipulating units; is it normal? It doesn't compromise the gameplay indeed, just a bit tedious (my rig is high-end ;))

looking forward for the subdue animals fixes!

Alright :D

I have also seen this and was hoping Koshling could shed some light on this also, because like you said after awhile, especially in the Industrial Era, that's when i get alot of it for me, but then of course i have like over 200 cities on the map (not all mine of course) and probably over 500 troops.

btw, I believe DH has fixed the problems from what i just read, so here's "Lookin at ya Kid."

Allright :D

They should be there now.

Great, starting a new game ;)

So far the prehistoric era is awesome, really like how you made it smoothly change to ancient era :)

The new SVN update seems to have broken something, when i get into the Main Menu there are no texts :o

EDIT: my fault, for some unknow reason my game switched to italian language :P

I have not observed any lag myself. Could you characterize it a bit more? Do you mean you click on a unit and it freezes for a short while, or you right click to move it somewhere and it takes a while to respond or what? If you can give me a description of more precisely what you mean, and a save game to go with it so I can be sure I'm looking at the same thing I'll try to figure out the cause.

Koshling, weird thing is happening with the new spawn animals method. I put all the usual animals into the core files while keeping the graphically challenged ones in my modules. I am getting lots of the ones in my modules but exstreamly few of the ones in the the core files. even tough thy have the same values and there are 5 times the number of animals in the core.

It could just be random but I have, world wide 1 polar bear and 15 komodo dragons!

Edit Ignore this. I had not removed the feature native! Doh!

I get a UnitHandler error whenever I build a Tracker. Am I the only one, or is that a known bug?

Furthermore, what are the Sudue issues that are being addressed, just out of curiosity? And what's the SVN route?

Excuse the newbie questions

The SVN is a shared storage mechanism that has the latest beta in it. You need access to read it see here. Being a beta it sometimes does not work, like yesterday when I missed some files I should have uploaded.

The Unit error on building trackers has been fixed in the SVN. It does not cause problems in game beyond not giving unique names to each unit of the hunter line of units that you build.

From another thread
One thing that should definitely be changed:
Alphabet gives the player the ability to build research, which gives 50% of :hammers: to research. Petroglyphs gives the player the ability to build lesser research, which gives 67% of :hammers: to research. That's totally backwards! Maybe make alphabet's research give 80% :hammers: to research instead?

This did not used to be the case. The meager and lesser variants are set to those values because that is what you can get by building and deleting units.

if no one complains I will up the percentage to 80% for the culture, research etc.

hello there,
I just started a new game with v16 and found it very entertaining as there are the culture system (great idea!) and even more civics (I especially like the new languages thing :) )

however, i ran into two bugs that destroy the nice amosphere for me... hope you can help
1) After swithing from Slavery to a different economy civic all cities require just 1 :food: to grow. That's annoying since now all my cities grow like 10times all after a sudden and then starve back before growing again (and not only mine, but the AIs cities, too!)... I dont't want to play with slavery forever, so I should like to hear any solutions :) (see Pic 1)
2) I seem to get money for expanding - my "number of cities" maintenance is negative :crazyeye: I am not angry about this, since it is like a bonus :D, but it doesn't seem rigth still (Pic 2)

Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work!

Sounds like some sort of bug in civic switching. Do you have a save game from BEFORE you switched out of slavery? If so can you:

1) Check that making the ame switch from that save yields the same problem
2) If it does post a (max compat format) save of that pre-switch state
