Caveman 2 Cosmos

@C2C Team:

I'm going to be gone on vacation for a week or so starting tomorrow. Like last time, I should still be able to access the forums, but I will be far away from my modding computer, so I can't make any changes during this time. I expect to be back a week from today or so.

are there any know causes of CTDs in v24 (non-patched)? I've got a standard sized map on a custom continents map type and I got a CTD with no error message (seems to be a W7 thing, XP always gave me some kind of error message)

Game was not running at all slow (shows the mod for improving game speed is working), so I'm guessing a bit of rogue code. I always seem to get a CTD somewhere in the game (but usually on a large map and further along the tech tree) and I'm really hoping that it not just due to my laptop not being able to cope!

I do have one grumble though (aside from fore-said CTD) why does the AI have to build so many units? It strikes me that in order to survive even on a lower difficulty I need to build hundreds of units and this is both for the field and the defense of my cities....this is one of the places that more is not better....although it's interesting that the AI seems to churn out so many units when it doesn't seem to make good use of the new production buildings?

There are still random graphics crashes in v24, although those have been much reduced on the SVN version. Also, there was a Python Divide-by-Zero error, which was fixed in Patch 2.

I did wonder if it was a random one, I've just re-loaded my auto-save and I *think* I've got back to where it crashed before and it hasn't...

Python divide by zero?.....I have enough programming language knowledge to know that a divide by zero is a bad thing.....but not what it is or how it happens. Anyway, sounds like i should install that patch, just in case!

Oh, and it was nice to see the mod move onto Desura!

no, I applied it to the desura install, which seems to have called the folder "c2C", can I get away with just renaming the folder?

If your only using the patch, take it OUT of the ZIP file and just orverrite the NORMAL Caveman2Cosmos folder just like the thread said. Dont use that install thing (Desura)

I built two cities over the limit for an unhappiness penalty, and all of my cities turned unhappy. The AI has went way over their civic limits for number of cities, and here I run into a few of their newly built cities which have no unhappiness icons. This is after 5 cities over their civic limit. Sitting Bull has Chiefdom and 11 happy cities. He is 5 cities over the limit. Shouldn't that be a -15 modifier?
So, is this supposed to be the case?
The penalties for civics is definately on. Why is it just affecting me?

If you get enough espionage points you can examine the AI cities and I have confirmed that the happiness effect of too many cities was the same for the AI as it was for me.

My current game I am still on Chiefdom, almost at Despotism. I am 7 cities over the limit. All my cities have the state religion (+3 :)) I have the Sphinx and Inuksuk, every city has a Master Hunter (with Ivory) and the two Govenor buildings. So that's 8 :) from that, and there are more resources now that give :). Mining reveals precious stones and jade that give :). Look for and develop Amber, Resin, Squash, Fig, etc. The Music Hut gives more :) as you build the instruments, finishing at +5. (This is an reason to research Folk Music now - it releases 2 types of instruments that give :) with the music hut. Send a buffed Hunter to the Artic regions and try to subdue a Mammoth. That's +1 :), or +2 :) with the Master Hunter building. After Trade you can use Enclosures and gets lots of happiness. Bear, Birds, Big Cat, and Wolf all only require to Govenor's Menagerie, so I get +5 Happiness for each new city from subdued animals (Hunter +2, Pets, Menagerie, Birds)

Also check for what crime buildings you have. Be ready for +2  the turn after you discover Trade. Most of your cities will get the Soliciting crime. Build Town Watchmen at your city that gives them the most XP. If your city gives them 17 XP the Town Watchmen can be promoted to Policing V, which is -25 crime points/ turn. That's worth the 2 :gold: per turn cost.

So if you look for happiness you will find it. If only life were that way... "Hi dear, I discovered folk music today, I feel really happy!"

I am playing a custom game on version 23 and the AI is not having any unhappiness effects. You must be playing a different version, or it must be something with the type of game I am playing. The option is for sure turned on, but the penalty only affects me.

Hello,

I'm playing v23, and having a nice experience, but I have 2 questions:

1. I am playing with Guilds and No Corporations, and I haven't been able to built any Guild, I had to buy it to other civilizations. I knew about some incompatibility between Guild and Corporations but I am not able to build Guilds in any case.

2. Is there any introduction to Guilds and how it works in some thread?

Thanks to eveyone

If the option is on then it affects all players human and AI.

I think the only time you can't build guilds is if you have the "Realistic Corporations" option on.

Isn't there also a requirement for a certain number of cities/buildings? I tend to play with extremely small/tall empires, and it's exceedingly rare for me to be able to build most of the guilds other than equestrians (which doesn't seem to have that requirement).

*edit* Yep, just checked. In v24, most of the guilds have a requirement for 6 of a certain type of building on a standard map.

It isn't just you. What makes you think the AI has no unhappiness? If you can post screenshots showing the reaosns you think the AI has no unhappines from city limits please do so.

Also bear in mind the AI always plays at noble so it has quite a lot of base-happyness to work with (what difficulty are you playing on?)

Okay, I think i figured out why the patch nerfed my game...odd thing happened though.

I uninstalled and re-installed the mod then re-loaded my game, as ecpected I was told that a number of items would be modified, it complained about a couple of things not existing anymore and off the game went....except that I'd jumped from BC all the way to 35000+ AD.

I played on a for a bit, seemed to work fine, but the C2C options were not working (stuff I couldn't build wasn't being hidden).

So I started a new game and found that there were a lot of changes that the patch wouldn't account for.

So I reckon that Desura lied to me, and when I tried to install C2C via desura it didn't actually do it and left v23 in place....which would explain why the patch wouldn't work!

Right, onwards with a new game, except I've gone for a archipelago map which on vanilla is fine, but with C2C makes fro a very dull start...so I may start again.

I like to have a map where I don't need to worry about the AI for a while...or too many of them, custom continents usually does that.

Ahem. *cough, cough*
Bonus :) for Warlord, Noble, Prince, Monarch, Emperor, Immortal, Deity difficulties is:
<iHappyBonus>4</iHappyBonus>

Reason: Any lower than that and you'd start with  population, i.e. no citizen from even your first pop 1 city able to work the fields. He'd just be  at you for even attempting that difficulty.

Cheers

I'm playing it on Noble. I would have to post several screenshots to prove my point. One would be the AI's civics. If you had Chiefdom, and were 5 cities over the civic limit (11 cities total), would you be able to build a new city without an unhappiness icon?
What modiifiers can the AI possibly have that is allowing them to build new cities with no buildings, and be 5 or 6 cities over the civic limitation?
This means they would be building new cities with a -15 modifier right?
Also, this is early game, so what possible modifiers does the AI have that are making up the -15 (since it is not buildings since these are brand new cities in early game).

No, but I can use world builder. Let's see what they have in this city.
They have built nothing. This is city number 11, and Sitting Bull has all of the same civics as me, including Chiefdom. They don't have the unhappiness icon. None of his cities do, and mostly all he's built is troops and settlers. I seem to be the only one who is building buildings for happiness. They only have like one or two. The AI has a rediculous number of cities. All rivals are at least 3 cities over their civic limitation, but they have no unhappy cities. I know, even with all of my happiness buildings, with two cities over the limit I would be in trouble.
