Caveman 2 Cosmos

Hi Rwn,

I do play with religous Decay, but that rarely happens though.

I've kept away from limiting the religious buildings option since there is a warning in the hover over desription of it. Do you know if it is stable and functions as intended?

It isn't just the religious buildings I find off though, it is all the percentage bonus buildings, it just becomes that much more apparent with the religious buildings.

Religious Disabling does seem to work properly. It was just something that the further development of had been reconsidered and the whole approach would have to change from the ground up to make it work on a wider scale. But overall I think the option has proven to function as intended without problems.

Ah, yes, that was the name. I use it in my games, it's working well, though occasionnally I have a religious building of my state religion disabled then reenabled for no reason (with a very limited, if any, impact on gameplay).

That sounds great, then we'll try that for our next game when v35 is released.

The other plan that we had was to manually divide the religions into "eras" based on the way they were set up (early religions being those that lacked monasteries) and then agreeing internally that we were only allowed to found one religion from each "era.

I need help with this one guys.. C2C old version plays fine but this new version 34 i cant get it to play at all.. i tryed pasting it in but get nothing errors when i load it up in mods.. what i need to know is were do i put the files or what do i need to delete and replace for this to work.. Like i said the older version plays fine but when i try to put this new version 34 in is when things go crazy with errors..

when civ 5 came out i started playing that and put this one down.. i did not like civ v for diff reasons at the time. dont get me wrong it is a good game but im coming back home to civ iv were i should have stayed..

Never overwrite an old version, always delete the old one completely.

so i just delete all c2c files and then copy and past ver 34 in folder?

Best thing to do is keep the OUTER folder "Caveman2Cosmos" then click on that and delete everything INSIDE, then on the downloaded one, cut and paste everything from the inner folder also, to the Caveman2Cosmos main folder again, its that simple.

I refer to http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=521550&page=79

They say, the big maps delivered with C2C v34 cannot playwed fine w/o crash.
But there are no other maps attached.

So, pls tell me what is the biggest map and max civs working fine w/o crash? (memory allocation error), within the XP 3GB limit, that I can run on a Win7/64?

and from where I can get it?

I cannot believe that you all discuss endless about details but never had a made a game successfully until ists end with a map attached.

It's probable that by lowering the # of civs limit we can get these to work til the end of the game... I had forgotten we were going to reduce that limit. I'll try to get that done so we can re-introduce some stability for larger maps (it would give a bit more room in the data.)

how much civs are the limit? And with or w/o Barbarian? Or limit the units or the cities.
On that big maps - I believe - it will not work to limit the amount of civs only, as for memory usage it is not the thing if there are 20 civs with 20 cities each, or 40 civs with 10 cities. More it is the amount of units a civ has. (i.e. in one test the Zulu had more than 1000 (!) units already before reaching Great Bibliothek Wonder.

But what I not understand is, that my Memory usage monitoring told the game overall memory usage was ~ 2.1 GB only, at that time of crash, and it should take up to ~2.9 GB fine. And, that in RoM I had a big map running using 2.9 GB RAM fine on XP, w/o crash and/or memory allocation error.

Same is with the recalculation. As I Installed Civ4 and C2C new, it asked me for recalculation. When it started with calculation, the memory in use was 2.2 GB, and went up to 2.3 GB only, then it crashed. If it was an allocation problem, then it means that within one second it loaded more than 800 MB in ram ??? Probably not. So it had the allocation issue before reaching the limit?

You see, it is not logical. The first imprression of the problem may not show up the true reason.

BTW: I also tried to start with set Civ4BeyondSword.exe to "XP compatibility mode". It crashed direct at load. This also must not be. It shows that there is another problem. In C2C v33 I could start it in XP mode (but it was slower), in V34 it crashes direct at start.

No offense but before the latest SVN you cant compare C2C to any other game, its was HUGE. 3-5 times larger than others, so no comparisons. (Also see pic, i believe both are in Indus Era, yours compared to mine, ALOT of difference in size, higher is worse:thumbsdown:!!
And btw i didnt have YOUR memory failure when i tried it it worked fine for me. But it took alooong time for turn times, about 4-5 minutes per turn.
Also again as DH explained we can no longer support GEM map, or any other map that has more than 20 civs on it and thats playing a Giant map.
If i had my way i would delete Giant and Gigantic map altogether. Because you will never get to the end of the game with those, too many town/cities after Industrial Era.

My recommendation is if you want to play a Earth mapscript use Tectonics (look at the very bottom of the maps area there)
Other wise best to play on a mapscript settings at Large, starting with 7-9 civs. I personally never play above 7 civs. because more will be added with Revolutions ON.
But thats me. Everyone is different, that explains all the options "we" have included, now hows that for an explanation?
Also i have a new handicap system avail in the modmod area, i believe, IF you want a harder game to play.

At first - I suggest cutting it down from 50 to 30. Then wait for comments from players.

Was going to take it to 40 actually. 35 at lowest. GEM requires 35 I think.

Max # of players allocates a lot of ram so it could help... that's all I can say about it.

Current GEM posted in April - is 32 Civs (not in first post) - so 35 should be OK.

TB will you be working on reducing the number of Civs in the near future?

That is before version 35.

If so I will delay posting a new SEM map, that only uses standard Civs. - thanks to the work done by Strategyonly.
